Hey everyone!
First a quick programming announcement... We know that a lot of
Musical Justice listeners tune in while they're at work, so we've
decided to try something new for those folks. We've expanded our
active playlists to 1000 songs and 60+ hours which means that
whenever your listening at work during the week, you aren't going to
hear the same song twice Monday thru Friday, no matter what shift you
work or where you are around the world. Put it this way, if you
happen to hear a duplicate during your workday, you're working way
too many hours and your boss needs to give you a raise! Please check
it out and let us know what you think about the change...
Now that the business is out of the way, on to the fun stuff, because
it's our favorite time of year here at Musical Justice. That's
right, it's off to Austin, Texas later this week to attend the South
By Southwest music festival. If previous years are any indication,
we'll come home with stacks of new music to play for you on MJ. For
those of you who have never been, picture over a 1000 bands spread
over 50+ venues performing from noon until 2 AM for four straight
days. Oh, and did I mention lots of beer and BBQ? :)
Some of the Musical Justice artists who are playing the festival are
Aimee Mann, Blue Merle, Bobby Bare Jr., Bottle Rockets, Buddy Miller,
Caitlin Cary, David Garza, Dogs Die In Hot Cars, Earlimart, Elvis
Costello and the Imposters, Hot Hot Heat, Jeff Klein, John Doe,
Kathleen Edwards, Los Super Seven, Lucero, Ray LaMontagne, Robbie
Fulks, Robert Earl Keen, Robert Randolph, Sleater-Kinney, Son Volt,
Stephen Malkmus, Tegan & Sara, The Donnas, The Forty-Fives, The
Futureheads, The Golden Republic, The High Dials, The Paybacks, The
Raveonettes, The Waco Brothers, The Wallflowers, Tift Merritt, Tim
Easton and Vic Chesnutt. But the most anticipated performance might
just be a rare appearance from the recovering Alejandro Escovedo at
Town Lake on Friday night. Expect to see pictures posted out at the
Musical Justice Yahoo Groups site afterwards. If you're going to be
down in Austin and you want to catch up with the rest of the Musical
Justice group, send me an email at musicaljustice4u at aol.com...
Oh, and one more thing while I'm thinking about it. You know
those "thumbs up/thumbs down" buttons in the Live 365 player window.
That provides us with extremely valuable information about what you
like to listen to on our station and we use it extensively in our
programming decisions. So if you really like something you hear and
want us to keep playing it (as well as other songs like it), then
give it a thumbs up and that'll definitely help keep it on the
playlist. In case you're curious, here is the current top 20 based
upon listener feedback:
# Artist - Song
1 William Shatner - Common People
2 Johnny Cash - Hurt
3 Butterfly Boucher - I Cant Make Me
4 Anne McCue - Stupid
5 Gina Villalobos - Why
6 Jim White - Static On The Radio

17 Snow Patrol - Spitting Games
18 The Forty-Fives - C'mon Now Love Me
19 Matthew Ryan - Fathers & Compromise (Live)
20 The Futureheads - Decent Days and Nights
I feel a little like Casey Kasem here, but I'd be remiss if I didn't
point out that Shatner's been at the top of the MJ listener charts
for the past 3 weeks, making Common People on of the most popular
songs on MJ over the past year! Who'd have guessed??
Time to wrap up for now. As always, we appreciate your continued
feedback and listener support, especially those of you who help
support the station financially by becoming a preferred Live365
member. Musical Justice continues to just be an expensive hobby at
this point, but every new preferred listener gets us closer to our
goal to break even someday. So thanks again to those of you who
already are VIPs. For those that aren't, we still love you
too 'cause you listen to the ads that help Live365 keep overall costs
down. In the future if you'd like to support Musical Justice more
directly by becoming a VIP listener, that's a bonus for us...
Thanks again for everything!
Jeff
