Hey there, Listener!  We don't want to waste any time so here are the bullet points for those of you who are wondering if you want to read this email.  Details follow below...

  • The royalty battle continues. Thanks for your support so far.
  • We've upgraded the website (www.musicaljustice.com) to include the latest music news, videos, tour information and MP3 downloads... updated daily!
  • Musical Justice is available on iTunes Radio and through corporate firewalls
  • We're playing more new music than ever from sources ranging from MP3 blogs to the BBC and we're adding tracks and updating our playlists daily.

Still there?  Good...

2007 was a rough year with all the talk of dramatically increased royalties for internet radio. For awhile, we thought we might have to shut things down.  However, thanks to listener outrage, internet radio was granted a temporary reprieve and we'd like to thanks everyone who contacted a senator or congressperson in our behalf.  But the reprieve is not complete as we're still required to pay significantly higher royalties than satellite, cable or terrestrial radio stations, so stay tuned because we expect this issue to surface again shortly.

In spite of the down year in '07, we expect 2008 to be our biggest year yet.  Some of you may have noticed that we recently redesigned and relaunched the website.   Now you can get your daily updates on the latest artist news, music videos, tour dates and MP3 downloads @ www.musicaljustice.com.  We scan 100's of music websites and filter out all the irrelevant stuff and focus on just the artists that you'll hear on our playlists, so it's a great place to keep tabs on the bands that matter.

We've also got great news for those of you who have always wanted to listen at work but couldn't get to Musical Justice through your company's firewall.  Our partner, Live365, has fixed this problem so that you can take us to work with you all day long.  Don't forget that we're also on iTunes Radio if you'd prefer to listen to us that way.

If you haven't listened for awhile and you're wondering if it would be worth the time to check in, we're playing an even better mix of the latest indie rock and established alternative artists.   Take a look at some of the artists currently in heavy rotation and judge for yourself...  Radiohead, Bishop Allen, Death Cab For Cutie, The Go! Team, Interpol, The Hives, Spoon, Band of Horses, M.I.A., Iron & Wine, Okkervil River, Foo Fighters, The National, The White Stripes and Beck.  We've also recently added new tracks from new and forthcoming releases by the Drive-By Truckers, Marah, Gary Louris, and Cat Power.

Every week, we scan dozens of the most influential new music websites, playlists and magazines to figure out the best new music we can get our hands on.  Right now, there are over 400 new tracks less than 6 months old in our current rotation alone.  In addition to all that new music, we're cutting a new playlist every day... no shuffle plays, no shortcuts... it's always as fresh and high quality as possible.

A lot of alternative stations that play new music, frankly, turn their mix into an indie rock ghetto where everything is so new and hip that there's no room for your favorite older bands.  Honestly, it kinda wears me out to listen to that for very long.  Our belief is that just because you want to hear the best new music doesn't mean that you've turned your back on more successful and established artists.  Our goal has always been to give you the best possible blend of those two worlds.  As we celebrate MJ's 8th anniversary this week, I'm confident that the blend of music we play has never been more diverse or better.

So we hope you'll check us out, give the new website a look and e-mail us back with your thoughts and comments about how we can make Musical Justice even better for you in 2008.

Thanks again for listening!

The Musical Justice Team
