PORTABLE JUSTICE - UPDATE
-------------------------
I was overwhelmed by the response for the 2002 Musical Justice
Sampler. Demand far exceeded the original run of 100 disks and
rather than turn anyone down, I made another run of unnumbered
disks. So for those of you who might still be waiting on your 2002
Sampler, I got another batch of disks in the mail today. That means
that except for a handful of international requests yet to go to the
post office, everything should be on the way to you.
I tried to spot check the disks, but if anyone gets a bad one or gets
one that's been damaged in the mail, please e-mail me and
I'll send
you a replacement disk right away.
SXSW
-----
Austin's South by Southwest, one of the highlights of my year, is
coming up in a couple weeks. One thousand bands will descend on the
city from March 12th to 16th. At last year's festival, we were
blown
away by several artists including Drive By Truckers, the Gourds, the
Yayhoos, Bare Jr. and Patty Griffin but probably the biggest moment
was finding out that Bobby Bare Jr. listened to Musical Justice!
If you've never been there, it's definitely worth making the
trip.
Check out the list of Musical Justice artists scheduled to perform
during the festival: Dan Bern, Bobby Bare Jr., Cory Brannon, Peter
Bruntnell, Calexico, Vic Chesnutt, Diana Darby, John Doe, Drive By
Truckers, Tim Easton, Kathleen Edwards, Alejandro Escovedo, Jay
Farrar, Fastball, David Garza, Gingersol, the Gourds, Ed Harcourt,
John Wesley Harding, Rex Hobart, Ray Wylie Hubbard, the Jayhawks,
Richard Julian, Matt Keating, Will Kimbrough, Chris Knight, Jimmy
LaFave, Edwin McCain, Tift Merritt, Buddy & Julie Miller, Abra Moore,
Willie Nelson, Marc Olsen, Michael Penn, Grant Lee Phillips, Bruce
Robison, Bob Schneider, Ron Sexsmith, Billy Joe Shaver, Slobberbone,
Spoon, Vienna Teng, Webb Brothers and Lucinda Williams.
For more information about the event, go to www.sxsw.com/music. If
you are planning to attend, send me an email and let me know so I can
keep an eye out for you. I'll let you know any new discoveries
next
month.
THANKS!

our
loyal listeners for their continued support! It's an easy way for
you to help us offset the cost of keeping the station up and
running. If you'd like to pick us but aren't sure how, just

STUFF YOU PROBABLY WON'T HEAR ANYWHERE ELSE
-------------------------------------------
Again this month, two of the CDs you are mostly likely to hear only
on Musical Justice come from Matthew Ryan and Richard Thompson.
Matthew's released another limited-release Internet only CD,
Hopeless
to Hopeful. Last we checked, it was still available from his
website, www.matthewryanonline.com but move quickly because it was
rumored to be taken out of circulation.
We've also added an import version of Richard Thompson's The
Old Kit
Bag, which has not been released in the U.S. yet. It's another
great
effort from RT which you can order from www.amazon.com.uk, if you are
so inspired.
One other rare Richard Thompson track you'll be hearing soon on
Musical Justice is sure to cause a stir. It's a cover of
Brittany
Spears' Oops I Did It Again that he's been performing in
concert
lately. Man, you are gonna love this one!
If you saw the Grammies, one of the highlights was a tribute to the
Clash, London Calling performed by Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello,
Steve Van Zandt, and Dave Grohl. Well, we've got a copy of the
audio
and it'll be on the air soon, so keep an ear open for it.
If you have any other suggestions of cool rare performances you'd
like us to share with the other Musical Justice listeners, please
send them our way!
