Starting at the end of 2004, WCH Radio & Next Step Promotions
instituted the annual "WCH Radio Artist Of The Year" This
year we
have chosen Micky as our 2004 "Artist Of The Year"

14 year old Micky, is from Waterloo, Belgium, and speaks both French
and English.

"I was impressed with Micky's above average interest in his
musical
career, according to John O'Day, CEO of WCH Radio.

Micky has developed his own brand, keeps up with how his
song "Hazardous" is charting on our station, which is
available on
CD Baby, and is also available as a ring tone and real tone. He has
his own website (www.mickymusic.com), and has developed his own
promotional items (via Cafepress). Says O'Day.

The Artist Of The Year is a new category for WCH Radio & Next Step
Promotions, and we are very proud to present Micky with this award.
This is also one of several features we plan to add to the station
in 2005. O'Day said.

A brief bio about Micky, along with a link to his website appears on
both the WCH Radio website (www.wchradio.i8.com), and the Next Step
Promotions website (www.nextstep.5u.com).

It is our hope that this will help not only keep Micky inspired, but
other independent artists continue to make their dreams a reality,
just like Micky, O'Day added.

To the MDN family,

I'll be out of the net for the next two months (gotta love being in
and out of the biz repeatedly) and will be back online in March.
I'll try to keep updates at a minimum, posting mainly on my website.

Speaking of which, I found that I am having some issues with getting
my MDN content... I can't recall which email address is registered
with my website, and at best, I locked my account. During this time,
could we throw in an account re-set for me (or clear mine out, so
that I can set it up again)?

Best,

mannieb2004

By Ben Ohmart

When trance meets soundtrack, a Glideascope
occurs, that child of a happy home which has the
unique ability to run and play in the street while
at the same time sitting comfortably and listening
to Handel without the aid of a record player.

Glideascope calls itself "the soundtrack to a
movie never made," with a nickname of "audio
cinematography." Yes, it dances while it
underscores the movement. An Oscar-winning
soundtrack will not only underline the action, it
has that singular rarity of being tuneful,
remaining invisible enough to not disrupt the flow
of story and character. This is what Glideascope
achieves with its With Strings Attached EP.

To the tuning strains of an orchestra your
"Devushka" (meaning beautiful in Russian) begins,
plugged with a female vocal sometimes singing
"you're shining down on me" and other sound bytes,
as a saxophone steams among the dominant
personality of the album: the strings.

Perhaps the most rhythmic track follows it, in the
aptly titled "What Kinda Madness." Hip hop fans
will keep coming back to this one, scored like a
delicate remix involving violins and the ghost of
violence.

Then there's "Alone" which struts like an updated
David Bowie conception (think "Looking for Lester"
or the whole of Buddha of Suburbia), only
reinforcing the very visual nature of its music,
presenting us with the best, most pressing
compliment tunes should engender: that it is truly
interactive, not reactive.

Glideascope's name itself explains the
collaboration of creator to listener. The one-man
band explains: "Glideascope is a combination of
the word Glide - which has been my artist name
since my teens and the word Kaleidoscope - which
is a visual instrument used to display a variety
of colours and symmetrical forms. I wish to
demonstrate this in audio form, using many sources
of inspiration from my childhood to present day."

Cinematically speaking, movie soundtracks - as you
can tell - were a significant influence on
Glideascope. But the band offers more than this -
"think minimalist, think rich and soothing, think
organic and textured, think melancholic and
emotive." He is breaking down the fourth wall and
the movie screen itself: "to construct and evolve
rather than deconstruct, to promote inclusion
rather than exclusion. Of course creation
sometimes requires breaking items down. In this
respect I want to break down the barriers between
the listener and the recording to stimulate an
emotional response."

"It takes courage to leave all your security
blankets behind and jump without a blanket" --
Carlos Santana on Miles Davis

Eagle Rock Entertainment brings to home viewing
audiences a documentary about a milestone
performance of the legendary jazz icon, Miles
Davis, with the DVD release, Miles Electric: A
Different Kind Of Blue. Premiered at this year's
42nd New York Film Festival, this special feature
documents the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival
performance by Davis, which was the culmination of
a remarkable journey.
http://www.eaglevisionusa.com/ecards/MilesDavis/index.htm

Featured are interviews of musicians who were a
part of this amazing transitional moment in
American music, including Chick Corea, Herbie
Hancock, and Keith Jarrett, in addition to those
who were profoundly affected by his innovations -
Carlos Santana and Joni Mitchell, among others.

When Davis released Bitches Brew in 1970, he
opened up a new angle to jazz. Some critics
accused Davis of selling out, while consumers kept
his album on the top of the charts. To date,
Bitches Brew is one of the best selling jazz
albums of all time. Miles Electric: A Different
Kind Of Blue examines the next step in the process
-- performing live.

Miles performed before 600,000 screaming rock fans
at the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival. It was the
culmination of a remarkable journey. A giant of
jazz, Davis by the late Sixties started to look in
new musical directions; challenged by what he
heard in the streets and on the radio- and
especially by Jimi Hendrix's music- he began to
add electric pianos and guitars to his ensembles,
incorporating rock and funk rhythms with jazz
improvisations. This fusion resulted in
masterworks such as In a Silent Way and Bitches
Brew; it also resulted in controversy every bit as
fierce as Dylan going electric, as musicians,
critics, and fans argued over the future of jazz.

Directed by award winning producer Murray Lerner,
Miles Electric sits down with several of the
performers who played with Miles, interspersed
with footage from the concert. Lerner has
brilliantly captured this amazing transitional
moment in American music, adding contemporary
reminiscences by musicians who were at Davis' side
(Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett, Dave
Holland, Gary Bartz, etc.) as well as others
profoundly affected by his innovations (Carlos
Santana and Joni Mitchell).

The DVD has a running time of 73 minutes and is
presented in 5.1surround sound.ÝIt will be
available wherever video is sold on November 16,
2004 for a suggested retail price of $19.98. Extra
features on the DVD include additional interviews.

Eagle Rock Entertainment develops, acquires and
produces music programming for a wide range of
notable and high profile artists, which the
company distributes on a worldwide basis. Eagle
Rock Entertainment, Eagle Vision and Eagle Eye
Media are wholly owned divisions of Eagle Rock
Group, LTD.

Subject: Trakheadz brings artists' music directly to the club & radio DJs
mannieb2004
Send Email Send Email

By The G-Man

For all the hype surrounding digital distribution,
nearly all initiatives have revolved around the
distribution of music directly to fans for pay or
for free. Just a cursory surf across the Internet
reveals literally thousands of websites that offer
to help independent artists sell, distribute and
promote their music. Even with the success of
iTunes and the proliferation of digital music
retail portals, little attention has been paid to
the Web's potential to supply music to
influence-makers such as DJs and radio
programmers. That is until Trakheadz.

"Trakheadz.com establishes a reciprocal
relationship between artists and one of the most
important groups of decision-makers for new music,
the working DJ at clubs and radio stations,"
explains Steve Keitt, Founder and CEO of
Trakheadz.com

Trakheadz.com is the first online organization
that provides a direct link between artists or
producers and those who can put music into the
public's ears: radio station program directors,
radio station DJs, club DJs, touring DJs, party
DJs, and other music professionals who are looking
to discover the newest music.

"We've taken the concept of the DJ record pool and
streamlined it, modernized it, and brought
technology to it," states Keitt. "This is a new
way of getting the freshest tracks into the hands
of both radio and club DJs, rapidly, easily, and
at a very low cost. These are the people who are
out there every night, playing music for audiences
who are seeking new music."

The model for Trakheadz.com didn't exist before
Keitt invented it, but the idea began from
studying an older method for introducing new
music: the DJ record pool. There are many such
pools, comprised of a community of working DJs
willing to accept new tracks from a central source
(the pool), to whom they report back their
playlists, which are then used to create record
pool charts. But these have tended to be
cost-prohibitive for many DJs to participate in,
hampered by rising shipping costs and very little
interaction between the DJ and artist.
Trakheadz.com tackles the issue by leveraging
digital technology to not only securely deliver
new music to DJs, but provide the artist with
direct feedback from those DJs.

How It Works

Let's say you have a new music track that you want
to test-market before you start putting a lot of
money into radio promotion or distribution. The
traditional methodology is to press hundreds of
CDs or vinyl and mail them to the various radio
programmers and DJs. The postage alone can run up
a large bill, not to mention the pressing costs.
And it assumes that your package will even be
opened, let alone added to a playlist.

Contrast this with Trakheadz.com, which dispenses
entirely with postage and pressing expenses by
offering artists and labels an online platform
connecting them with over 50,000 DJs worldwide.
Once an artist sets up an account with
Trakheadz.com, they can upload a selected track as
an MP3 file along with relevant information such
as the tracks name, length and genre as well as
whether its available in CD and/or vinyl. A
message is then sent to DJs who regularly play
that type of music, allowing them to preview the
track online, provide feedback and decide on
whether they will add it to their playlists.
Artists maintain full control over when and how
long their songs are available for download and/or
streaming.

The 2005 NYC WINTER JAZZFEST
http://www.mi2n.com/press.php3?press_nb=75375

The Knitting Factory is proud to present the 2005 NYC WINTER JAZZFEST, to be
held on
Sunday, January 9th, 2005 in New York City . The festival marks the The Knitting
Factory's
continued commitment to presenting top quality jazz and experimental music.

The 2005 NYC WINTER JAZZFEST is primarily an opportunity for artists to showcase
in
front of presenters, promoters, talent buyers, etc. from around the country and
beyond.
Over 3500 arts professionals will be in town for the annual Association of
Performing Arts
Presenters (APAP) conference from January 8-11. As there will be hundreds of
showcases
scheduled throughout the weekend around the city both at the Hilton Hotel and in
alternative venues, the Knitting Factory offers APAP conference attendees, and
the general
public, the opportunity to experience the best of today's new live jazz and
experimental
music performers in a club venue setting. NYC's Knitting Factory allows the
ideal
opportunity with three intimate performance spaces and a rich jazz and
experimental
music heritage.

The 2005 festival will include 19 of the most interesting new jazz artists from
New York,
Chicago, Detroit, and 4 artists from France (or Francophone countries). The
debut festival
roster has been designed to present and preview new jazz music from French
artists with
a special focus on collaborations between French and American jazz artists.

Currently new jazz artists are under represented, yet they are culturally
essential to the
continued development and future of jazz and the cultivation of new audiences
for jazz.
New jazz artists need the support of and exposure to the significant
institutional booking
forum that Arts Presenters conference represents. The Knitting Factory is
pleased to offer
a forum for presenters to experience new jazz.

The Knitting Factory welcomes all Arts Presenter conference badge-holders to
RSVP and
reserve their Full-Club Pass to the 2005 NYC WINTER JAZZFEST on January 9th, by
emailing
rsvpjazzfest@.... Only 2005 APAP Conference attendees are able
to RSVP.
Tickets / Full-Club Passes are available to the General Public for $25 at

In my last post, I stated that the listenership for "Think
About It!," our new radio talk show for musicians, and
which aired for the first time last Wednesday evening,
reflected that approximately 300,000 listeners had
tuned in.

However, I would like to report that we have now
received the actual listenership figures, which come
in at a whopping total of 412,172 people.

Folks, again, that was our very first show, and we
were only 87,828 listeners away from a half million!
So, can you even imagine where the listenership
may very well be by summer, or even this time next
year?

We already have some incredible guests booked
through May, so the listenership can only increase.

If you have a music business, product, service, or
if you would like to have your new music release
advertised, you should now think seriously about

I agree this would be a good idea - it's easy to forget to look at the site and we don't always have time to read the newsletters.

That’s ok I understand. I just wanted to make everyone aware of this upcoming event. The Champions of Rock Tour is going to be a huge event that is already getting huge recognition from some big key players. If you haven’t already check out our webpage at www.championsofrock.com. The website will explain the event in more detail. Next year we plan on doing a huge national tour and hopefully we’ll stop in a city near you and you will be able to attend one of those shows.

Geez!

Commercial radio...so defensive! Wasn't it only yesterday
and early this morning that I published an article titled, "As
If We Didn't Already Know?" that addressed broadcast
radio's ever declining listenership?

Well, in less than 24 hours, these guys have come on both
the offensive and defensive!

When I read the phrase in the article that says broadcast
radio has now launched a "nationwide advertising campaign
promoting radio as the source for new and compelling
music," I could not help but feel like what Santa Claus must
feel when he laughs with glee. In fact, I chuckled almost to
the point of falling out of my damn seat.

I won't give away the whole literary "candy store" here,
but will otherwise let you read their particular response
firsthand.

And, once you review the article, please, pretty please,
tell me if it does not eerily feel like the same response that
major labels gave when the Internet caught them with their
proverbial pants down around their ankles as they rested
their buttocks upon a bottomless musical commode.

In fact, in the second paragraph of the article, be sure to
pay attention to the quip that David Field, president and
CEO of Entercom Communications, makes about satellite
radio. Ha!

"Hey, Dave! I think the end of the world has just been
Internetized!"

Now, that's strange...my spell checker says that the phrase,
"Internetized," is not in its dictionary. Hmm...better check
that out...

In any event, after reviewing the article, please talk to me
about it at http://yahoogroups.com/group/BSharpRoundTable
as I am suddenly feeling the onslaught of some much
needed therapy hovering on the horizon.

Or, perhaps, it is simply the innate fear of possibly being
approached by commercial radio personnel that are armed
to the teeth with assault weapons while lining the MuBiz.com
offices' perimeter with Claymore mines.

JayBee, I had hoped we wouldn't have to do it, but I guess
we had better go ahead and put in that dreaded call to
Army Colonel Benjamin O'Reilly after all.

both lines, then place in your browser.
