Thanks Peter, and all the others who helped answer my question. I
dug out my copy of DA2001 - Take Everything Very Seriously, to find
out that "Detectives of Suburbia" is really really great song to
wake up to. I've had it on my CD alarm clock all week. And the
Nuclear Holocaust Mix of Homeless Club Kids may be my favorite of
all the remixes of that song.
I need more....When can we expect anything new ?

...nevermind. i was far to overwhelmed by the revelations of possible
b-side releases, and obviously overlooked this...

you'll have to ask the band... I know they want to reissue all
versions on CD one day

are there any plans of officially releasing songs such as...
-Kimberly, Shock the World
- 1986
- The Informers Part2
- covering David Bowie's "Modern Love."
...in mp3 format? i'll happily pay. is -death mods- a new song or a b-side?

They are definitely all the same recording....I personally had all
the records pressed :)
it's likely mastering that changed the sound slightly, yea...
hopefully it was improved! :)
Thanks for all the clarifications, Peter. I was apparently pretty

That there's only one version of this surprises me, as I have
both releases and I thought the song sounded slightly different, and
not just because one of them has the Pretty in Pink sample and one
doesn't. Maybe it was the mastering? I have MP3s of each and they
also sound a little different.
Does anyone know if Harriet is definitely out of MF singles? Tim
Albarn was nice enough to let me sublet his apartment for a Summer
about 5 years ago, provided I filled any mailorder requests he had
for Harriet stuff, and that closet was jam-packed with extra copies
of singles and CDs he was hoping to sell even though he'd stopped
doing Harriet some months before.. Not entirely unimagineable that
he'd still have some My Favorite records, although I lost touch with
him.

My roomate burned my copy "Modulate" to CD-r and I ripped the song
from him. I'm too paranoid to share anything beyond my Saint Etienne
MP3 collection (93 and counting) so it wasn't from me. All the other
MP3s I have I've found online also. Is anyone else on Soulseek? It's
been helping feed my re-obsession with Denim on Ice ever since I
discovered someone *finally* made a Mac client (Solarseek, still in
beta but excellent nonetheless). I'm 'we are glass' on there.
ok, ok, i'll set the record straight :)

Loadhog had a pretty extensive rundown but there's a couple things he
missed:
The Last New Wave Record (1994) - debut single. Don't know the
tracklisting exactly. "Cult Hero, Come Home" is on it, as well as
"1986," a synth and drum machine number with "Pretty in Pink" samples
and Michael and Andrea talking over it, I think that's the song
Loadhog was trying to think of.
Double Agent 1980 (1996) - featured various bands covering 80's
numbers, and lead off with My Favorite covering David Bowie's "Modern
Love." One of the few that holds up well to the original. To this day
I have to suppress an urge to yell for it at My Favorite shows
because I know I'd be an ass if I did ; )
There's also a different version of "Cult Hero, Come Home," on Double
Agent 001. I think this is the original demo version of the song.
I've always assumed that the Double Agent 001 version was also on the
Brighton Riot demo, but I don't have it so I don't know. Am I wrong
in thinking "Detectives of Suburbia" was also on a demo originally?
Seems like we had a thread about this long ago.
I wonder how the band would feel about us sharing MP3s of out of
print songs from their backcatalog. I have all of the songs I
mentioned and some of the ones Loadhog went over as well. The
original versions of a lot of the songs which made it to ...Absolute
Zero are interesting for one reason or the other. "Modulate"
certainly captures the intensity of the song better even though the
album version is better recorded.
(Brian.)
Other recordings of interest:
There's a different recording of "Go Kid Go" on the
double CD compilation Pop American Style.
The version of "Absolute Beginners Again" on the
Montecarlo Compilation is a different recording (more
reverb).
There was a split 7" with Boy Racer featuring a
different recording of "Modulate."
There was a split 7" with Mad Planets featuring an
edgier recording of "Working Class Jacket."
There was the Informers & Us 7" with a different
recording of "The Informers," and the b-side
"Detectives of Suburbia," which, as Double Agent
pointed out, is available on DA2001 Take Everything
Very Seriously CD. He has pointed out that the 7"
version had truncated the first beat ever so slightly,
and so the Take Everything Very Seriously version
restores the full first beat. Also, there was another
track whose name eludes me, but if I recall, it was
dialog over music.
And of course, there's "Kimberly, Shock The World"
from The Brighton Riot Tape, which I believe was
available for download from the Double Agent site way
back when.
"Teenage Mercy Dance," from Blue/Blue Movie, before
they became My Favorite, was floating around on the
peer-to-peers at one time.

p.s. a note from MY FAVORITE......
Dearest Invincible Invisibles,
I am excited to announce a few things on the near horizon for My
Favorite
as we continue to construct the Frankenstein monsterpiece that will be
our next record (which I have taken to calling 'The End of Music' in
my own
mind.) I know for our fans the delay is maddening, but
hopefully the fruition will be sweet enough to erase the taste of
waiting.
In the meanwhile we are making our London debut on Friday, June 17 at
Hemisphere at Underbelly, London, UK.
If you
reside in the UK or have a friend or foe that you think would enjoy
the 12
part ghost story with tambourine that is My Favorite...please forward
them
this info and PLEAD with them to allow themselves one more chance to
care
about music. My Favorite in London is a little bit like using a
series of
mirrors to bend a beam of light through a winding corridor. I think
it will
be a difficult thing of beauty.
In addition to London we will be taking a skip over to play the
Hultsfred festival in Sweden alongside some huge artists we will never
meet (Nine Inch Nails, Snoop Dogg), and some excellent ones who will
wave
politely at us (Le Tigre, Hidden Cameras.) I apologize in advance to
all our
Swedish fans for not playing a proper tour of Sweden this spring but we
promise to compress a weeks worth of madness into this set, and
perhaps have
French fries with the lot of you back in Gothenburg on Sunday.
There is more to discuss and we will soon. A possible single & video to
hold you over, a return to the west coast, a pair of cufflinks with
anchors
on them. Movie reviews.
Please remember the haunted hearts!
Your chum,
Michael

the Seattle date is indeed confirmed.
but, the Portland show was UNconfirmed when the third band cancelled
last week, so we're looking for a third band to fill the show so we can
confirm it again. sorry for the confusion.

oh i REALLY hope MF adds a tour date in Vancouver!
i live in Calgary, Alberta (a ten hour drive away from Vancouver, BC) and
i'll do anything to see the band
the moment i saw that they will be perfoming in Portland i asked my friend
if she'd be willing to go on a road trip with me to see the band... now that
a Seattle date has been add.. that would be even more convenient.. but a
tour date in Vancouver would be the best!

oh my, i absolutely adored the mime suggestion, i then almost had a senses
overload when you added the fake tears of BLOOD! perfect! im soo jealous i didnt
think of that...haha. i like how your mind operates, i must find a portal into
it.
i agree, it is a shame you will be unable to see mf on their upcoming
tour...perhaps soon they will announce some stops is melbourne...in the
meantime, ill be in our secret underground lair, examining and analyzing ways to
teleport us to every location they perform. email me personally, for further
details, suggestions, or whatever about our cult of 2(so far)...im pretty sure
your no secret agent designed to infiltrate & bring down our cult...*gasp* or
are you???

i giggled so much at that! haha. but, i want to alter our
costumes...we should dress like mimes, make up included, with fake
tears of blood. ahhh...i practically dress like a mime everyday as it
is so it won't be difficult for me! i'm pleased that you're pleased
of my joining your cult :)
meanwhile....what i wouldn't do to live in america, london or sweden
when the Faves hit there.

And, dare I suggest it, you should consider sticking around for the rest
of the fest too! It's always a lot of fun.

yesss...haha, im digging your ideas!
we could ride around in eco-friendly black vespas, dressed all in black and
wearing really cool black sun spectacles, stop into crowded places and begin our
dramatic theatrical interpretations of mf songs and before anyone can comprehend
whats happening...we flee and proceed on over to our secret underground fortress
of HORROR and attempt to conjure the spirits of dead martyrs and poets with our
quija board...
hehe, oh dear...i could continue but i dont wanna seem THAT enthusiastic, i
wouldn't dare want to ruin my reputation of being Morose.
...oh my...*sniff*...*tears*...im so pleased that you've joined my cult. in
celebration i shall cry myself to sleep. *sigh*...theres nothing more enduring
then crying yourself to sleep...no?

i didn't realise the theme for the new album was horror! i'm horror-

spooky. should be awesome!
fake blood, smeared eyeliner....i'm there. romance novels?
pretentious theatrical interpretation? i'm SO there.
books about death would be cool, too. we could read lots of romance
novels and death books and then from what we've learnt, write a big
romance story with lots of death included! although Bold and the
Beautiful might already be onto that idea....
count me in!

What are the My Favorite day jobs now? I get the impression you're
no longer Strong Island Librarians.
(You all may not realize that My Favorite used to be called "The
Strong Island Library All-Star Posse", back when they were a
funk-metal band / Sublime cover band.)
Sorry, just dumb things I wonder now that I've left NY. And another
request to PLEASE COME TO ATHENS. I will HOOK. YOU. UP.
The south will rise again!
...ok, fine, it won't.

Hi Michael and all in the Boston area,
It's strange that My Favorite are listed because we have no shows
scheduled in Boston! I bumped into the promoter of this tour last week and
he proposed that MF play the Philadelphia show on this tour, but he never
followed up on the discussion. I don't get how that translates to
confirming a Boston show.
Apologies for the confusion, Michael. I hope to get some New England shows
booked in September or October. If anyone in New England knows of some new
or unusual venues, or would like to help out street-team-style, write me
off-list.
Reporting From Her Dayjob,
Andrea

Hey all,
In the paper this week, I noticed that Andy Rourke (from the Smiths) is DJing
over here at Great Scott's in Allston (which is next to Boston) this upcoming
Tuesday. A couple of bands are playing too, most notably MY FAVORITE.
Hope to see anyone in the area there. This gig is literally 3 blocks from my
apartment!
