singing voice with you and look for me strumming in my booth.

I'll be selling some of the newer models of the Fluke and Flea's.... and passing
out a new
song book to all that want it... while supplies last.  And if some of you have
been trying to
figure out how to attach a strap... I have found a strap made just for the Flea
or Fluke.

Ricc started something at the last Naturist Gathering by hanging out at my booth
and
jammin' almost everyday of the event.... sounds like a good idea to me.  So
bring your uke,
pull up a chair.... and I'll teach you some new songs.

I know the Flea or Fluke have that great flat bottom for standing up next to you
when you're
not playing.  But, Iam always afraid of stepping on my hibicus flea and actually
almost did...
which promted me to do a "google".

I just found this great item.  the "String Swing" Mic stand Ukulele Hanger...
Its adjustable
thumb-screw fits around your music or mic stand and holds your ukulele out of
harms way.

I have a fat music stand (about 7/8 of an inch dia.) that it fits around nicely.
I actually clamp
two on my stand.... one for my precious Flea and the other for my new Kamaka. 
Both,
valuable in their own way.

In the "Links" section I've added this clickable to a wonderful online
metronome.  I was very
surprised, after hearing a recording of myself playing,  how I keep changing the
tempo.
Usually while moving from one finger position to the other.  Using this
metronome, has help
quite a lot.  Give it a try... it's adjustable... go slow at first.

I usually take an old beater uke to the beach or the lake because I'm afraid of
what tanning
oil will do to my prized Fluke. I know that bug spray is a desaster waiting to
happen. I bought
the Fluke cause it's built pretty tough but now I love it to much to expose it
to the extreme
elements. does anyone have any further insight on this?

That's a good question ackroid.  I'll copy your post to the fleaMarket's
"Bulletin Board" and
see what they say.

But, for now, I would say do a test.  Dab a very little bit of your bug spray or
tanning oil with
your finger.. and dob it somewhere on the back of your flea.  keep the area
small... maybe off
to one corner.  See what it does.  I would think it would be wise to keep all
oils off of any
wood part... especially the painted face.

You could alos opt for a less oily bug or tanning spray.... I am lucky, I use no
tanning or bug
spays.  Also winter is just around the corner so very soon you will have half
your problem
solved... no tanning oil needed.

a few years ago, i picked up a, open-back maple tenor... vintage 1922. well,
last week I
turned it over to a local luthier (Fred Casey) to have a period style concert
scale uke neck
made for it. I had already installed a new fibreskin head but the existing neck
needed a new
fingerboard so I thought.... hmmmm.... this could be a really fun thing to pay
around the
campfire and would blow the guitars away in volume. I always used a piece of
carpet felt
tucked into the back of the pot to tone it down, but we'll have to see what
nylon strings will
sound like.

Taimane is fantastic..... she's playing an 8 string tenor ukulele..... she could
be tuned in the
same GCEA, only she knows,... but with an 8 string usually each pairing of
stings is tunned to
its note... say a G... but an octave apart.

I'm guessing this isn't the first time this issue has been raised.... but if
she's using say,
mandolin tuning... is she not simply strumming a mandolin with nylon strings? 
I'm not
saying I'm a uke purist by any stretch but you'll have to agree that even "the
Jake" would have
trouble doing a lot of his stuff on a uke that was tuned to the traditional
GCEA. And I know
mandolin players that would eat Jake's lunch.
I'll be burning in Uke hell for this one I think.

Go to Taimane's photo page and you'll see she's using a Kamaka... as she says "I
love my
Kamaka"... as do I.  As far as her tuning.... send her an email... problem
solved.

Now about Jake.... he's my man..LOL (check out the Photo section).... and most
songs he
preforms he uses GCEA.  As does James Hill.. another great uke player.  I've
meet and talked
with both and had instruction by James Hill at the Portland Ukefest... for two
years now.
