In case anyone's curious:
--the disco-ish
backing music heard during
"Helter Stupid" was a 1977
top 40 hit by
Sylvetti, "Spring Rain". It was
recently played during the syndicated "Lost 45s" radio
show
(http://www.lost45.com
--"Moribund Music of the
70s" or
what!)

--the opening Over the Edge theme is called
"12
O'Clock", by Vangelis

--the music that opens Crosley
Bendix's segments
is by Gershwin (forget
title)

--Some of the songs played by Pastor Dick
were
legitimate Christian records. "It's Contagious",
for
example, was by a group called H.I.S. Kids
(a
tape-trading service called the Mofo Outreach Ministry used to
offer it...they also did songs
like "When I Saw God
He Was A Vending Machine").

--The preacher
sampled during "Christianity is
Stupid" was Rev. Estus
Perkle (now deceased),
who talked in '68 of being
imprisoned during
the Korean War. "17 hours a day, from 5
O'clock
in the morning till ten o'clock at night...in
our
dreams we would hear, 'Christianity it
stupid,
Communism is good. Give up'."
