Pastor Dick: Muriel's Purse Fund<br>OTE - Dick Vaughn's
moribund music of the 70s<br><br>If you can find "Fair
Use: The story of the Letter U and the Numeral 2" book
you'll have the history of the "U2 - Negativland" album
and why it was banned. It also comes with a full
length CD of original Negativland music. <br><br>Their
first self-titled album "Negativland" is pretty good,
but expect nothing like their music of later years.
Just alot of experimental noise.<br>"Points" isn't
that great (more noise). "Guns" is alright but nothing
too exciting. <br><br>Negativ(e)land (the live album)
is great, but their former label SST records put
this out without their permission, so I understand
that it's not something they like for that reason.
Thanks for the info, I didn't know that Casey was
such a hothead. Ponderous, man. They've got it mixed
so that he's saying "fuck Snuggles" on #4. <br> <br>
I need to know what should be next on my list. I
have A Big 10-8 Place, Escape From Noise, Helter
Stupid, FREE, Dis Pepsi, T.G.A.F.E.A.W.G.A.S., and OTE
volumes 6 & 7 (Willsaphone Stupid Show & Time Zones
Exchange Project). I'm going for all of them eventually.
Does anyone have any favorites besides what I've
listed? <br> moel
Yes the samples of Casey are real-er than you
would ever imagine. I know someone has already answered
this post, but Casey does acknowledge the samples as
his voice in the documentation presented by
Negativland in the book they put out about the whole affair.
Also, if you can get a hold of a recording called
"Celebrities at their Worst. Vol 1" by Nick Bogaus (sp??) you
will hear two entire tracks of Casey Kasem swearing
and yelling while trying to cut station IDs for his
syndicated radio show.... you will hear the entire
"snuggles" fiasco unedited... <br><br>such gems
as:<br><br>"American Top Forty can be heard immediately following the
Trailblazers game on - Jesus Christ , what the fuck am I
doing? Promos inside the fucking game?"
<br><br>and...<br><br>Casey: "...your favorite music radio- oh, fuck -
engineer from the control room: "you were right, you were
right!"<br>Casey:"Bullshit! No, no. 'Your favvvorite music radio.' That's the
way it's gotta be read..."<br><br>You see, when you
treat your staff like shit, and they have access to
blank tapes, this is what happens.<br><br>also -
Everything in "T.G.A.F.E.A.W.G.A.S.?" is Negativland...
someone else just compiled the songs together like you
would do if you were burning a CD for a friend.
Negativland is distributing a copy of a bootleg of their own
material apparently. Funny, huh?<br><br>I have this
bootleg of one of their concerts called
"negativconcertland". It's similar to alot of the live stuff from
"T.G.A.F.E.A.W.G.A.S.?" but was recorded from a different tour date. AND
I bought it in London, England at Tower Records!!
of all places! The wind up in the strangest
places....
I'm usually at my best riffing off other
comments, so when this board is silent, I usually am as
well. Except on those rare occasions when I discover
something new on my own, or (as I did last June) I make a
great pilgrimage to 180 and the letter G. (Did I ever
post that photo? Gotta look.)<br><br>Somewhere in my
dusty tape archives is an unedited version of the
"Snuggles" tape. Yes, the Casey Kasem rant is all too real.
As Mr. AT40 himself proclaims, it's ponderous :) Is
Don on the phone?
Good hello, and a fusty welcome. I've decided to
put some effort into resurrecting the now
seemingly-decrepit club which I'm posting this message to. I've been
a Negativfan for a few years now, but only since
the glorious 90s. I've read through the 191 messages
that came before this post, and realize there are some
Negativeterans in here. Where did everybody go? On to better
bands to talk about? Blasphemy! I just picked up
"T.G.A.F.E.A.W.G.A.S.?" For an album which is supposedly NOT a
Negativland album, it sounds pretty goddamn good! <br><br> I
came across a childrens' record in a thrift store a
couple of months ago called "The Weathermen". Of course
I bought it ($.80) and ran right home to play it.
The record opens with some narration, and then jumps
straight into "We Make Weather Weather We Like It Or Not."
If it wasn't dated 1978, I'd think this was
something the Weatherman use to listen to as a child,
possibly inspiring him to tell the weather. Not the case.
<br> Has anyone else out there came across similar
Negativinspiration? I'm told that there is a Brothers Johnson sample
on "The Perfect Cut" from Helter Stupid. <br> One
more thing: Does anyone know if the Casey Kasem
samples are real? ALL of them?
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For.
Wanted to download the FU2 cover, as I'd torn mine when
pulling it out and trying to put it back in the "jewel
case".<br><br>Note to Over the Edge fans--not sure yet, but I might
be able to record another one! Will be up in San
Francisco for a rail transit conference next month.
The Letter 2 and the Numerals FU...Great CD!!!
And I've only heard the first half so far. Funny how
I never before considered the legal quagmire that
would be a Cover of a Cover tune. Is Don on the phone?
Thanks (in advance) for the CD!<br><br>A little
bird told me...well, more like a big bird (a vulture,
I think). Especially wacky for me was their dead-on
parody of a real radio character, Harold Camping. On my
last couple Bay Area visits, my motel was right down
the street from Camping Construction Co., aka Family
Radio world headquarters. His views on life, the
universe, and everything are so out of touch with reality,
it's no surprise even the "Pastor Dick" puppet would
treat Camping as an oddity.
I put a pkg. in the mail for ya this week,
Zineland! Thanks for the OTE Death Metal tapes... how did
you know that I was a closet Death Metal fan and
posessor of one of the largest collections of Christian
Death Metal in North America? Damn, are you spying on
me?<br>-Roscoe

Finally mastered this monstrosity to CD! If you
know of anybody interested in hearing this unique and
historic compilation of destroyed, mutilated and
appropriated U2 material, created in support of our beloved
Negativland, please contact me. I'm usually willing to send
this free to true believers. Spread the word! Disclose
your snail mail address

Ah, you're back (again)...reminds me of one of
the jokes going around during the McDonald's
"kangaroo meat" rumor in the mid-70s, that some guy ate a
Big Mac 8 times (number changes depending on the
teller, ha).<br><br>Good to hear you got the Over the
Edge/Puzzling Evidence tapes. Pacifica station programs that
show up on other Pacifica stations tend to be shorter
(:30 or 1:00), and perhaps those the Borg, uh Pacifica
Foundation feels it has some control over? Wonder if any
other stations (besides KPFA/KPFB/KFCF) run even old
tapes anymore? Got spoiled by the WZRD rebroadcasts of
Over the Edge.<br><br>Hmmm, haven't seen "No Other
Possibility" in years. Just took the photos in for further
developments. I may try to get a 1st-generation copy of that
tape someday. Have been watching for videos by a
similar group, "Emergency Broadcast Network", as all I
have are the samples of one that turned up on the
"Sonic Outlaws" compilation.
Ah yes, here I am again (I tend to join, leave,
then re-join...) Thanks for sending me a dub of that
OTE (and the Puzzling Evidence show),<br>ZineLand--
have heard, and both OTE & the SubGenius show were
great! Now, did 180-G look like the house we saw in the
"No Other Possibility" video-- the part where the
Weatherman is "run over" by someone who looks<br>like a
smiling Dick Goodbody? (the Weatherman<br>reaches over
for the cigarettes-- "I got 'em,<br>they're in the
hubcap of the Toyota!")<br><br>I would only hope that
KPFK would start running<br>OTE so you could hear/
tape the show every<br>week! :)
By amazing luck, the best transfer point from the
County Connection #116 bus to the WestCat #30Z was on
Alhambra at G, right across from the infamous
"Safemuffins", and with the right amount of time between buses.
180 is large for the neighborhood, but not totally
out of place.<br><br>Last Friday's "Over the Edge"
was a roundtable "discussion" on Death Metal and
Black Metal music, including Weatherman, Pastor Dick,
"Harold Camping" (a dead-on impersonation of the goof who
runs the religious "Family Radio" network), and an
unfamiliar-to-me character "Santo Gold". Thanks to a couple C-150s
and my little auto-reverse recorder, I taped the
entire show and most of the "Puzzling Evidence" that
followed while losing only about 10 minutes sleep
(well-timed alarm clock, too).<br><br>There was a plug for
some show some of them will be part of next month, if
I ever find either my notes or that part of the
tape again. I think they said they be under the name
"Chopping Channel"?
They have always been one of my fav groups. I
just wish that they would go back to doing simple
edits instead of complex mixes with alot of samples.
Simplicity is sometimes the best way to make a point....
<br><br>My fav albums are (in order)<br>U2<br>Helter

I think they're music has become a little more
"silly" over the years. I don't what's up this is the
perfect time to be putting out some stuff with Bush in
office and all this music censorship stuff going on man
it's a million things they could be doing now. Maybe
they're just waiting for the perfect moment to let
something go. <br><br>I became aware of them a while ago
when I let some friends hear some of my music that I
was working on and they said I should check out
Negativland because some of the music reminded them of
Negativland. So I got Dispepsi and I was hooked so now I have
most of their stuff. <br><br>thorn
It was quiet...TOO quiet. Guess there's not much
to talk about between tours or CD releases? If it
helps any, I will try to report on my pilgrimage to
Martinez's 180 G on next week's Bay Area trip.
So what the hell is going on in here? Lets talk
about the band. I have everything they have ever put
out except for some of the OTE stuff. <br><br>I

going on with the band and their website. It seems like
they only update their website after they have played

they've lost their touch over the last couple of years.
They're music seems to be less edgy -- except for maybe
ABCs of Anarchy.... any comments?
Jimmy Buffet indeed! Thanks for taking it with great humor! I hope you like the
site and please take the time to send me some feedback on it if you'd like!
Hey Folks!<br><br>I started an online Music
Magazine here in my town called "The Perfect Cut". If
you'd like, please check it out and tell me what you
think! The address for the site is
<a href=http://utahgoth.net/perfectcut/.
target=new>http://utahgoth.net/perfectcut/.</a> I hope you like it!
Sorry you caught me busy. I may have
intentionally passed the work on to one of the other artists,
since they have families to support and I do well
enough with the body piercings. Dunno. Sometimes I'm
just not feeling very artistic. Since I don't know
exactly when you were in, it's hard to say. But glad you
got a piece you're happy with. If you're in town
again for work, warn me in advance so I can schedule
you an appointment.<br>Roscoe
