Gezz, and I though I had trouble with
NegativFANBOYland. Well, I guess corprate-sponsered billboards don't
mix well with a group like
Negland.<br><br><br>echo.....<br>echo.....<br>echo.....,<br><br>Don-O
Still waiting on details of Negativland's
California stops. I will go to whichever one happens on
Friday or Saturday night, even if it winds up being Palo
Alto or San Francisco, that is if they set the date(s)
soon enough for me to make travel plans. From where I
live, the Los Angeles stop would only be slightly more
convenient than the Bay Area, ugh.
If (and ONLY if) I wind up not working Friday,
and I am able to confirm that "Over the Edge" will be
on that morning, I will haul ass north after work
Thursday afternoon. Can you tell I'm a desperate fool who
hasn't heard Don Joyce & company live in 11 years?!?
Hmm,maybe you mean the Knitting Factory
(not<br>Knotting). They sponsored the show I saw years ago that had
N-land, Amy Denio, and some klezmer<br>band...Negland is
on at least one older Knitting<br>Factory
compilation that had a live rendition of<br>"U2" called "Long
Distance Dedication"
Don-O here! The CD comp in question is 'Knotting
On The Roof', a various artist tribute CD on the
broadway/movie 'Fiddler On The Roof'. It's put out by the famous
Knotting Factory club from NYC on their KnitMedia lable.
The NegBoys do a track but unfortunatly, I don't know
which one. Keep dem ears to the ground!
I Wanna Trade OVER THE EDGE (I assume that's what
you mean by OTE?) too...though as you likely know, am
now in the same boat as you. When I finally get some
(paid) vacation time (if I ever again have a job WITH
such a thing), I expect to make a run up to KPFA-land,
but in the meantime I'd like to swap tapes if I can.
Aargh...5-something million (or more?) people in the KPFA coverage
area, but not one measly tape-trader amongst them?!?
Been looking over some of the Over the Edge tapes
at the Negsite and more than a few (especially from
'98-99) seem interesting. But I wanna save some
money--anyone out there willing to trade? I got some
interesting OTEs myself plus other Negativland stuff of
interest. My OTE list
is<br><a href=http://www.angelfire.com/ma/maskedbandit/ote.html
target=new>http://www.angelfire.com/ma/maskedbandit/ote.html</a><br><br>plus
email me at rac_cooney@... for more
details!
Good to know about return of OVER THE EDGE...if
even half the stories I had heard about the Pacifica
Foundation storm-troopers emptying the place were true, it
was an ugly situation.<br><br>Don't worry about
FACTSHEET FIVE...go out and make your own publicity! Send
copies to zines that talk about other zines...AMUSING
YOURSELF TO DEATH, FUNHOUSE, CHALLENGER, MarkTime, INDY
UNLEASHED and other such zines are a great start! FACTSHEET
FIVE, at the end, was not exactly on the ball writing
about all the zines they were getting anyway, while all
the above-mentioned zines have the personal touch of
one or a small band of zine fans.
Dear ZineLand,<br><br>Over The Egde is back on
the air (after they repaired the place AFTER the
occupants trashed it) and NegativFANBOYland is still
around. In fact I produce the sucker and I'm currently
catching up on this for the up-coming #6 (including a few
people who contacted me this past year).<br><br>Excuse
Dept.: Busy with the net business (I have a cheap piece
of crap of a PC that can't jump the line so I'm
forced to use the public library; an hour or two a weeh)
and I got other small press project to contend with.
Currently, I'm slapping a catalog together for an up coming
zine con in mid Oct. here near Downtown LA. NFBL #6
should be ready before or JUST after then.<br><br>My
apologize to EVERYONE for my silence. It's getting kinda
hard to run this sucker on short funds, tight schedule
and no Factsheet Five around for publicity.<br><br>No
Other Excuses,<br>Don-O
$75? Ouch! "Helter Stupid" was only $1.99, less
than the best-of-Cliff Richard even..<br><br>The bar
scene in the Chicago suburbs are a heck-hole for
cover/tribute bands. Perhaps I should put together a
Negativland tribute band...plenty of possible names (Sex
Dirt, 180-G, Snuggles, or perhaps U2,
ha)<br><br>Speaking of 180-G, that would be the only Negativland cut
I've heard on more than one station. That's (probably)
my fave, though "Playboy Channel" is right up there!
Still feel like a stoopid eee-diot for never playing
them on my few KALX shows in 1984.
Yeah, I don't know what the going price for "U2"
is nowadays, but I once saw one for sale for $75.
That was several years ago.<br><br>My favorite
Negativland song of all time is "The Playboy Channel". For
two summers when I was a college student (late 80's),
I did a radio show that was a strange mix of techno
and industrial and that was one of my favorite songs
to play. I even had an on air contest based on it
once, plus I used it in the promo for my show.
<br><br>I've thought on and off of doing a "cover version"
sometime. That would be worth lots of giggles. I wonder how
long it'll be before there's a Negativland tribute CD
like the Kiss, Led Zepplin, and Jimi Hendrix
tributes.<br><br><br>Todd.
Hi, New! Welcome aboard! Most of my Negativland
collection is from their works on Don Joyce's "Over the
Edge" radio show in Berkeley, or from tapes-of-tapes.
If you know about their problems with former label
SST, you'll know dubs are preferred to buying new
copies of SST releases. (Just ran into a used "Helter
Stupid" CD, earlier this week near Kansas City...still
hoping to score the "U2" CD in a used bin, but that
sucker's rare!)<br><br>Anyway, again welcome, and check in
often!
Hi--I used to do their fanzine, NegativFan (now
run by Don Fields as Negativfanboyland, 1508 Faymont
Ave., Manhattan Beach, CA 90266). It was nothing much,
just a few pages of reviews and stuff. I have lots of
their stuff including rare stuff, the U2 single, and
lots of Over the Edge tapes.<br><br>I first played
them on college radio around '82<br>but really got
into them when Helter Stupid came out in 1988.
Please take a moment to welcome me to this club.
I've been a fan of Negativland since the moment I
heard them in either 1987 or 1988. I can't remember
when, exactly. It was right when "Escape from Noise"
was released and I fell in love with their music
immediately, buying up all the previous albums (this was
before CDs were the main music medium in the world), and
forever changing my musical tastes.<br><br>Yes, I've got
one of the original U2 CD singles, too, which I
bought about 3 days after they were released. And I've
made numerous copies of it.<br><br>If you're a fan of
Negativland (and I think you are), I would encourage you to
at least give a listen to my band, called 404 Not
Found. Our 3rd CD is released this
week!<br><br><br>Todd.<br><br>404 Not

There have been many shocks felt by the Pacifica
governing board's recent fuck-ups...the apparent end to
OVER THE EDGE is a big shock. The show got me through
several insomniac Sunday (and, later, Thursday) nights
during my Berkeley and Oakland days in the
'80s.<br><br>Alas, I only taked 2 or 3 my entire time out
there...most of my collection is thanks to monthly taped
broadcasts on WZRD in Chicago. Which, alas, may no longer be
airing them either! The jock playing last Saturday's
show said it was the last he would run, but did not
say why, and he's never answered a letter, phone call
or the door for this reporter?!<br><br>Am willing to
swap what tapes I have...heck, am only up this late
tonight as I'm dubbing 3 or 4 copies of "More Advertising
Secrets" (a favorite topic of mine, and apparently also
Don Joyce's, ha) so I can get them mailed off before
vacation.
(not to be confused with Dick Vaughn's
Moribund<br>Music of the 70s...)--not much action here.Maybe we
need some new members. Spread the word! We<br>may not
necessarily be able to do stuff like chats<br>or not, but we
can spread news about Negland and<br>trade tapes.
Tell some friends about this club!
Well, ignore what you read in my previous posts
where I mentioned Mofo Outreach Ministry as, sadly,
they've decided to shut down, mostly due to financial
reasons. I'm amazed at how much work<br>Rev. Otis put into
it over the 4 years or so it<br>operated. Many
Negativland tapes were dubbed as part of it...<br>Of course
we can continue to trade tapes through<br>our own
network (just contact some other Negativfans and trade
OTE stuff,etc.)<br><br>bye Mofo!...:(
We oughta find a way to do tape trading with
Negativland related stuff. I have lots of Over the Edge shows
and other Neg. stuff, rare and<br>otherwise...And
let's not forget a good source for<br>Negativland and
other odd stuff--Mofo Outreach<br>Ministry

Dear Hangman and everybody eles in this stupid
club,<br><br>Hello, My name is Don-O and I publish a small printed
(more like "xeroxed") zine called 'NegativFANBOYland'.
I took over old NegativBOB's older NegativFAN zine
a couple of years ago.<br><br>Anyways, I'm up to #6
(which will come out in late Sept.). The issue will
contain a rare LARGE interview with The Weatherman I
found in a Sub-Genius music zine.<br><br>For MYself,
I've been sucked into the NegWorld since 1991,
courtesy of 'Hitler Stupid'. I even got my hands on the U2
single before it got yanked!<br><br>I'm currently
working on a personal website of my own (courtesy of a
few blank pages from my friends site) that will have
a NegLand page in it. So, stay tuned.<br><br>I'm
afriad that's all I can type up right now as I don't
personaly don't have a P.C. and I have only an hour on
these things from the library.<br><br>Thanks for the
invite and I do hope to hear from most of you soon.
Hi--have been a Negativland fan since about
'88.<br>I did the first fanzine dedicated to
them,<br>NegativFan (sorry, no reprints--it was really<br>cheesy
anyway). Now one of my subscribers has<br>taken up the
immense duty of putting out its<br>successor,
Negativfanboyland (write to Don <br>Fields, 1508 Faymont,
Manhanttan Beach, CA 90266).<br><br>I've collected a lot of
their stuff, including<br>Over the Edge tapes, and saw
them just once<br>(at Johnny D's near Boston).
