PTDM #022: SKYGIRLS - Rogerio Skylab presents Skygirls:




The album is being launched by Psicotropicodelia Music [netlabel] in
two formats: free/copyleft download and [limited pressing double] CD.

All
the album and hotsite's graphic conception was in designer Flávio
Lazarino's hands, whose art style is already consolidated on many of
our previous releases. Mastering work was done by Sao Paulo producer
Flanicx.

The creative artillery and cultural/ musical importance of Rogério Skylab were
our main reasons for releasing it.

We,
at the schizo directory, needed such a strong item for extending the
label's range; specially by embracing a psychedelic and alternative
rock/ska/dub side; which also lives in our brains/ souls/ hearts/
playlists :].

'Love On The Second Stair'. It features the original version and three
remixes. Actual Russian Brides push the track through abstract 8-bits
and bouncing sub-bass. Karoshi redresses the song in his own lush chord
arrangements and down-tempo groove. Telafonica recast their own track
as a dark triptych with vocal cutups, abrasive grooves and bit-crushed
melancholy.

PJE's Thought Process comes to CL as a drastic sound change from the
previous releases. Almost it's polar opposite. A release that smells
like Autumn and winks at Winter. Just think of a cold sunny day, spent
in the beach and let the music flow. Smoothing synths accompanied by
acustic instrumentation are scattered throughout the album and with the
carefully placed textures, you found the heart and soul of Thought
Process. It's simplicity is incredibly striking, proving that even from
the most basic ideas, you can pull out surprises and sonic variation. [F.G.]

sound-evidence in crystal-clear structure and loudness without mercy.

  Beberapa tahun lalu, kami (Dede dan Gembi) dari Wasted Rockers (WR)
berencana mengumpulkan lagu-lagu lokal terbaik versi WR. Dengan konsep
lintas genre--yang waktu itu kami tulis "dari indie pop paling letih sampai
metal paling berisik", tentu cuma sebuah metafor bahwa ini akan menjadi
tanpa batas, mengingat komposisi "diam" John Cage "4'33''" dikomposisi dari
suara paling berisik, ultrasonik, sampai tidak terdengar telinga
manusia--kami membuka submission untuk siapapun, selama mereka tidak
berafiliasi pada label besar atau boleh juga dalam status unsigned, namun
terdengar asyik di telinga kami berdua. Peraturan sederhana itu malah kami
tambahkan bahwa ini merupakan free submission yang tidak akan membebani
siapapun yang akan ikut kompilasi ini. Kami menjanjikan akan membuat
antologi lagu terbaik tersebut dalam bentuk fisik (CD) yang akan menjadi
penanda bahwa WR turut berkontribusi mengakomodasi band-band bagus versi
kami agar bisa terdengar lebih luas lewat networking! kami yang terbatas
ini.

Ternyata feedback dari pembaca WR sangat besar ketika itu. Banyak materi
tidak terduga yang kami temukan dari band antah berantah ternyata patut
diperdengarkan lebih luas. Sedihnya, karena ruang yang terbatas untuk bentuk
fisik, kami cuma memilih beberapa band yang benar-benar membawa angin segar
di music scene yang underrated di negeri ini. Di saat yang bersamaan WR
turut mencari donatur yang potensial sekaligus sponsor agar CD ini dapat
dirilis lebih banyak dengan kemasan yang baik.

Di lapangan, tim kecil yang WR buat mengalami hambatan dari soal waktu,
kondisi finansial yang terjepit, sampai energi yang seadanya. Berita
buruknya adalah kompilasi yang harusnya kami rilis sekitar tiga tahun lalu
itu terbengkalai. Sedihnya lagi, versi cetak WR juga mengalami mati suri
bersamaan dengan kesibukan baru di pekerjaan kami masing-masing yang membuat
materi-materi band penting tersebut makin teronggok dan bahkan tidak
tersentuh. Kini sebagian artis/band yang (harusnya) kami rilis di kompilasi
ini semakin besar namanya. Ada yang sudah rilis album profesional, ada yang
masuk kompilasi festival musik indie terbesar di Indonesia, ada yang sudah
sukses diangkat oleh media-media besar, ada yang sudah melakukan tour ke
luar negeri, ironisnya: ada yang bahkan sudah bubar.

Pertemuan kami dengan Yes No Wave saat netlabel ini baru berdiri lewat
sebuah momen interview eksklusif di WR dulu ternyata membangun hubungan
persahabatan yang intens sampai Wowok, salah satu founder netlabel ini,
bersedia menerima pinangan kami untuk merilis kompilasi ini secara gratis
akhir tahun ini. Awalnya kami pikir, ini sudah bukan momennya untuk merilis
sebuah antologi lagu yang seharusnya dirilis beberapa tahun lalu. Tapi
logika terbalik kami malah menolong kami untuk tetap optimis mengenai
rilisan ini. Justru karena saat ini sebagian nama mereka sudah besar dan
familiar di telinga banyak orang, akan menjadi hal yang menarik kalau
ternyata mereka di luar sana mengetahui WR seharusnya merilis ini sejak
lama. Mereka akan tahu kalau track yang direkam di sini juga variatif: dari
yang lo-fi sampai semi-profesional. Anda akan mendengar versi mereka
beberapa tahun lalu.

Sampai kapanpun Anda tidak akan mendapatkan versi fisik kompilasi ini. Tapi
dengan semangat Lawrence Lessig-ian yang besar di jiwa kami, akhirnya
kompilasi ini dirilis via Yes No Wave. Tulisan ini bisa kalian anggap
sebagai apologi penuh karena kami tak mampu merilisnya dalam bentuk CD,
namun bagi WR, justru format maya dan bebas transaksi seperti ini akan
membantu meluasnya track-track ini secara efektif.

Humberto Luis Schenone was born in the British Hospital of Buenos Aires on
september 6th 1955.
Since his childhood had some school trouble for his pleasure of beating over
anything making "candombe-batucada". But first steps in music were in his teens
singing and playing guitar in folk and rock groups.
Dedicated to other kind of professional activities after university years and to
study Spanish guitar with jazz &tango player Claudio Gomez. But it was many
years later, in 1990, when he assumed his role as percussionist in music, after
different periods travelling and living in Brazil. He settled in a house 30 kms
away from Buenos Aires where he built his first "percussion-room" and started
his studies of afro-american rhythms. His teachers in the art of percussion were
Bam Bam Miranda, Abdoulaye Badiane, Ricky Olarte, Pocho Porteño, Hugo Nuñez
among others. He has been part of several bands related with afro-percussion,
bossa nova, samba, salsa, rock, south-american folk, tango, etc. Nowadays, again
living in B.A., works on his solo project collections: "Human Tracks", "The
Rhythms of Life I & II", "Human Fights", etc. and participates as guest musician
in different groups.

Today we present you the amazing gimme some more sounds, a work done
by Heitor Alves, during a workshop with Vitor Rua (GNR, Telectu,
Organização), and Dwart, that took place in the summer of 2009. This
work is a simple and amazing multi-track recording, featuring a very
naif, and well-acomplished work, which features improvisation, with
found instruments, namely a whole-range of instruments, that are
basically found objects, and which reflect the best spirit and stuff
made by Heitor Alves, when trying to seek for transposing with
transcendentalism his personal life experiences of the summer, to the
music he made. Aesthetically it basically results, in a simple, but
well archieved recording which comes from the ideias of Pierre
Schaeffer and Pierre Henry, to Pauline Oliveros, going throught stuff
like John Cage, and Beatriz Ferreira. All made with a very personal
aproach, throught improvisation, and studio recording techniques

herzog - first summer and the running dream OUT NOW!

Resting Bell is really happy to welcome herzog, a.k.a. Bill Bawden and his
latest EP "first summer and the running dream". Bill's previous releases on
Serein were the first netaudio-works I got in touch with. And you also might
know him from his fantastic release on 12rec. So what an honour to do a
herzog-release here on Resting Bell.

"first summer and the running dream" contains 5 tracks with a complete duration
of 30 minutes. Compared to his earlier works "first summer..." has a more
droning, a bit distorted character. The sounds are layered very softly and
sublime to a very harmonic composition. The overall mood is quite laid-back with
noisy, distorted splinters. The noisy elements are getting stronger to the end
of the EP but it leaves still a very harmonic picture.

For me a perfect soundtrack of the season. Watching raindrops on the window and
feeling wind in the hair.

Second compilation from Mixgalaxy Records. This time authors have been given a
task to create full music composition strictly 2 minutes and 22 seconds long,
while being completely free in genre choice. This means, once again, that this
album is followed by wide variety of moods and music styles. Besides musicians
represented on the first release, several new names are introduced here. And yes
total number of tracks is 22. Enjoy!
