This is the Group for the Newbury Jazz Platform, which meets monthly to give local jazz musicians the opportunity to get together and play.
The next session is on Friday 10th April 2009.
Jams are normally on the second Friday of the month, at Northcroft Leisure Centre in Newbury Berks UK. Beginners are welcome as well as more seasoned players, and of course we're always pleased to have an audience who just listen. If you have a tune you want to play there will usually be someone to play it with you (if it's an unusual number it would be helpful if you can bring parts or at least chords). There will always be some well known numbers played as open jams as well as other numbers played by groups of people who have rehearsed together in advance.
You can join the platform at a cost of £10 per year (£5 for students) or you can pay £2 on the night. The money goes toward equipment and advertising.
We now have a Myspace page which includes some samples of our music.
There is also a similar group in Hungerford, at the Royal British Legion, which normally meets on the last Friday in the month. You can contact us at newburyjazz@hotmail.com
