Turid Spildo - Nykkjen
Turid Spildo is best known as the vocalist and hardang fiddler from
the Norwegian ensemble Dvergmål. Here she is in solo mode, singing
songs from the West-coast of Norway, accompanying herself on
hardanger-fiddle andorgan. The tunes were collected by a schoolteacher
from Sogn og Fjordane, North-West in Norway: Olav Sande (1850-1927) in
the period 1880-1904. 16 of the tunes, mostly ballads, keep the old
tradition alive in this simple and lovely recording. - Highly Recommended

Knut Hamre and Benedicte Maurseth - Rosa i Botnen (CD and DVD)
A CD and DVD set of traditional hardangar music from Norway, performed
by a group of some of the country's best musicians: Nils Økland
(Hardanger Fiddle, Fiddle, Viola D'amore), Benedicte Maurseth
(Hardanger Fiddle), Knut Hamre (Hardanger Fiddle), Håkon Mørch
(Percussion) and Sigbjørn Apeland (Organ). The wonderful bonus DVD
film, "Pieces of Another Time," tells the story of the musicians, the
makers and their ancient instruments. 22 minutes: in Norwegian,
subtitles in English.

A cross cultural concert by Norwegian and Chinese musicians: Terje
Isungset (Percussion, Ice Percussion), Unni Løvlid (Vocals), Frode
Haltli (Accordion), Lu Yingmei (Vocals), Wu Chuan Ping (Vocals), Pan
Xin Zhi (Vocals), Wu Anhua Dongliang (Vocal, Dong Pipe and Flute,

Rusk - Rusk II
Rusk is a Norwegian folk trio of singer Unni Lövlid, accordionist
Frode Haltli and violinist/hardangar fiddler Vegar Vårdal. On their
second recording (2006), they focus on the music of the southeastern
part of Norway. The roots are traditional, but they play in a uniquely
rough and modern style.

Hoven Droven - Jumping at the Cedar (Live - 2 CDs)
The Swedish folk/rock quintet Hoven Droven is finally captured live,
the way they really need to be heard to appreciate their raucous,
rocking version of nordic roots. Recroded at the Nordic Roots Festival
in 2005 in Minneapolis. That entire concert is captured on 2 CDs, in
all its glory.

Dvergmal - Visor Og Kvæde Frå Blåberglandet
1996 recording by thereknowned Norwegian folk ensemble Dvergmål, the
home base for some of Norway's best: Jon Anders Halvorsen (voice,
harmonium), Marit Mattisgard (voice, langeleik), Øyonn Groven Myhren
(voice, lyre, seljefløyte) and Turid Spildo (voice, hardingfele).

Terje Isungset - Igloo
The Norwegian percussion settled into an ice hotel near the Arctic
Circle, built all of his instruments out of ice, and recorded this
unique and beautiful work, accompanied on some tracks by the wordless
vocals of Sidsel Endresen. It does not get more unique than this!

Unni Lovlid - Vita
A beautiful recording of solo voice by the Norwegian singer Unni
Løvlid (a member of the ensemble Rusk), made in a remarkable crypt
below a church in Norway. Phenomenal voice matched by phenomenal sonic
space... it can't get much better.

2 CD set of performances from the 4th International Jew's Harp
Festival in Rauland, Norway in 2002 features artists from around the
world, from Norway to North America to Vietnam to Tuva and eastern
Europe.

Schal Sick Brass Band - prasti music
The 2006 release by Schäl Sick Brass Band, a multi-culti band from
Germany, features their usual blend of Balkan, Scandinavian, central
and eastern European music, but it all comes together like never
before. The lineup of guests adds to the fun, including appearances by
Kristi Stassinopoulou (Greece), Andreas Grötzinger (Sweden), Anna
Lindblom (Sweden), Fethi Ak (Türkyie), Stathis Kalyviotis (Greece),
