Olov Johansson - I Lust Och Glöd
Always important and wonderful music form this nyckelharpist and
fiddler from Vasen, who says of this work: 'Although I compose new
music and play in all sorts of contexts, I always return with passion,
enthusiasm and with many new influences to the traditional tunes and
catchy playing that my early heroes cultivated. When I started
thinking about this, my second solo recording, I decided at an early
stage to record it at home in my own music room... I decided early on
that this would be a simple, fun recording of tunes, solo or duet. I
have invited some of my friends in and we have recorded tunes we like
playing together... All the tunes were recorded at home in the
'Torpet' except those with Catriona, which were recorded at her home
In Glasgow.' Guest musicians: Mikael Marin, Markus Svensson, Kalle
Almlöf and Catriona McKay. Highly recommended
Anders och Patrik - På väg
Anders Larsson (voice and mandola) and Patrik Andersson (fiddle) offer
their own unique, acoutsic arrangements of Swedish traditional music.
Jeanette Eriksson - Låtar på skånska
Solo fiddle from a young and quite talented player from Helsingborg in
the south of Sweden.
Svart Kaffee - Tretår
Mix west-Swedish fiddle with voice, harmonica and mandola to get folk
music in a blend of traditional and modern songs, polskas, waltzes and
incantations. Louise Schultz plays the fiddle and sings in Swedish
(and is a member of the ensemble RÅmantik). Simon Stålspets plays the
guitar, Nordic mandola and harmonica (he is well-known for his work
with Kalabra, Lystra and the Stockholm/Lisbon Trio). The founder of
Svart Kaffe, Jean-Pierre Yvert plays the accordion, willow flutes and
sanza. French born and bred, he become something of an ambassador for
Swedish folk music in France. Jean-Pierre is also part of the group
Nord-Sud.
Katzen Kapell - Katzen Kapell
Katzen Kapell say they have invented a musical style of their own, in
an unusual combination of instruments certainly creates an original
sound. The band is Catharina Backman on accordion and vocals; Eva
Lindal on violin, Magnus Andersson on Wurlitzer organ, keyboards and
vocals; Kjell Nordeson plays marimba and vibraphone, Lasse Lundbom on
drums and percussion and Gustaf Hielm does bass. (Originally released
in 1994)
Erika and Cecilia - Orhangen
The artists say: The word Örhänge is best described as an evergreen –
a song that is never forgotten. The tunes and songs here are precious
to us. They bring back dear memories of people we have met and places
we have visited. We met in 2002 and we hit it off musically right away
and have since then played together in many different venues in Sweden
and abroad. We come from the same region, Uppland, and most of the
music we play comes from there. This is our second CD. The first came
in 2004 and is called Pärlor (Pearls). Erika Lindgren plays the
fiddle. She grew up in Vendel, north of Uppsala. At the age of 20 and
at that time the youngest, she was honored with the title of "National
Fiddler" (Riksspelman). In 1999 she got the Viksta-Lasse scholarship
and in 2004 the Pekkos-Gustaf scholarship. Cecilia Österholm plays the
nyckelharpa. She comes from Östhammar, in the north of Uppland, where
the nyckelharpa has been played for centuries.
Jojk - The Joik Box (US only)
Reissued in June 2007: Limited number available. 3 CDs and an
excellent 310 page hardbound book explores the ancient art of joiking,
the Saami vocal art form. This set was long out of print, but a small
number recently became available. Because it is a large and heavy
package and these are some of the last ever to be available, the price
is a bit steep (185.00), but it is the essential collection, in a lot
of people's minds, and worth the price for the expert and an
educational landmark for the fan of ancient Nordic music.
US orders only online - all others please contact me before placing an
order so we can work out the shipping arrangements of this 6 pound
package!

Ellika and Solo - Abaraka! / Tack!
Abaraká!/Tack! - Thank you, indeed, Ellika and Solo for another
marvelous recording of new music from many roots. Senegalese kora
master Solo Cissokho and Swedish fiddler extraordinaire Ellika
Frissell forged a beautiful hybrid with their 2002 release, and here
they expand beyond the duo setting to add percussion, vocals and other
instruments like banjo and bass, with special appearances by American
fiddler Bruce Molsky, sumblime Senegalese vocalists Adama Cissokho and
Binta Suso and percussionist Seckou Keita (all three relatives of
Solo). The ensemble works shed new light on the duos vision, but there
are still plenty of the kora/fiddle duets that make this team so
essential. It's all damned near perfect.
Berit Opheim - Eitt Steg
Back in print! - Berit Opheim sings unaccompanied Norwegian folk songs
on this striking recording. The song traditions in Norway is called
kveding (to «kvede» is an old wordmeaning «to sing»). It´s songs
passed on for generations and deeply rooted in Norwegian musical
heritage. You can hear medieval ballads, psalms, children songs,
lullabys, callings and vocal improvisations on the album. The
recording is done in the Stave Church at Urnes, in Sogn. The church
was built about 1130 to1150, and is considered to be the oldest stave
church in Norway. It´s the first time a sound recording has been done
in the church.

Floes - Belovodia
A Celtic-rooted sound drives this Flemish ensemble, in original and
dynamic songs performed by a great band and a fine lead singer.
Soetkin Collier (voice), Philip Masure (guitar, voice), Silvie Moors
(voice), Guido Piccard (cittern, guitar, épinette), and Toon Van
Mierlo (accordion, cornemuse, sax)
