Take another look:
Afenginn - Retrograd
This unorthodox Danish small orchestra performs music that is
high-energy, humorous and virtuoso bastard-ethno music: original folk
music-based compositions containing odd meters, wildness, energy and
catchy melodies, but also moments of meditation and melancholy. Thwre
are hints of klezmer and other eastern European sounds, but the final
mix is all their own. This is one of those undiscovered gems in the
catalog… go discover it for yourself

New in the catalog:
Jonas Simonson - Crane Dance
Simonson, one of the seminal musicians in the new Swedish folk
revival, plays like no other flutist, with his own characteristic
sting and intensity of sound and rhythm. In addition to the ordinary
flute, he alternates with various overtone flutes and wooden flutes,
as well as performing on the bass clarinet. Jonas performs with the
legendary folk-fusion ensemble Groupa and Den Fule and previously
performed with Bäsk, Kapell Frisell and the Vocal Ensemble Amanda.
Darol Anger, Mike Marshall, Vasen - Anger and Marshall with Väsen
The self-dubbed "Duo" of American jazz-roots join forces with the
Swedish trio of Olov Johansson (nyckelharpa), Roger Tallroth (guitar)
and Mikael Marin (viola) for a shared look at their resppective roots.
Calle Hernmarck, Sten Andersson - Ekon fran Vallskogen
Pastoral music form Sweden, played on shepherd's pipes, goathorns,
baroque fiddles and sampler
Skromta - Grejhojta!
The name of this group from Stockholm group comes from a local
expression from Angermanland, a province in the north of Sweden,
referring to supernatural creatures like ghosts, gnomes, trolls and
vittror. The quintet is led by Matti Norlin (composer, nyckelharpa,
hurdy-gurdy, vocal) and includes violin, flute, guitar, double bass
and percussion.
Rojas Jonas - Epilog
Röjås Jonas (1921-1989) from Boda in Dalarna was one of the greatest
fiddlers in the history of Swedish traditional music. He passed away
in 1989 but even today, almost 20 years later, he remains an important
influence for many fiddlers in Sweden. Now, finally, the first
full-length album featuring Röjås Jonas is about to be released on the
label Nordic Tradition! Most of the material on the CD was recorded by
Jonas himself during the early 70's, just before the big folk music
burst, and it's a testament to the legacy of one of the great legends
of traditional music!
Aly Bain and Ale Moller - Beyond the Stacks
Scottish fiddle master Bain and Swedish multi-instrumentalist Möller
have been exploring the Nordic roots of Scottish music together for
over ten years, and this is the second CD to come from this
collaboration. Mostly fiddle/mandola duets are a culmination of Bain's
extensive research into the Scandinavian history behind so much of the
traditional music of his native Shetland Islands, and Möller's
creative arrangements. It is a masterpiece of understatement, a
relaxed session between friends who anticipate oneanother's every
phrase and respond with passion. Highly recommended.
Mattias Perez Trio - MP3
With focus on Swedish traditional music and a great interest in making
own arrangements and composing new music, MP3 was founded three years
ago. The whole group is examined from Music Universities. During the
last years the group has performed together in many different concerts
and dancing occasions around Sweden and abroad. In glowing, vibrating
music played with a lot of joy and happiness, you meet Mattias, Mia
and Nina in the group MP3.
Olov Johansson - I Lust Och Glöd
Nyckelharpa and fiddler from Vasen says of this work: 'Although I
compose new music and play in all sorts of contexts, I always return
with passion, enthusiasm and with many new influences to the
traditional tunes and catchy playing that my early heroes cultivated.
When I started thinking about this, my second solo recording, I
decided at an early stage to record it at home in my own music room...
I decided early on that this would be a simple, fun recording of
tunes, solo or duet. I have invited some of my friends in and we have
recorded tunes we like playing together... All the tunes were recorded
at home in the 'Torpet' except those with Catriona, which were
recorded at her home In Glasgow.' Guest musicians: Mikael Marin,
Markus Svensson, Kalle Almlöf and Catriona McKay
Pelle Bjornlert och Johan Hedin - Musikanter, polskor och andanter
Two style-conscious Småland musicians, Pelle Björnlert and Johan
Hedin, come together to find the new worlds to be discovered when the
two play in four part harmony using the violin d'amore and tenor
nyckelharpa in addition to a staggering number of sympathetic strings.
Småland dance music and tunes for listening, with a few Pelle
Björnlert compositions among the many traditional melodies.
