Kraja - Under Himmelens Fäste
Swedish vocalists Linnea Nilsson, Eva Lestander, Lisa Lestander and
Frida Johansson are from Umeå in Sweden. Their unique four part
harmony song arrangements and repertoire comprise traditional Swedish
folk songs, love songs, humorous songs, dance lilts and chorales, in
addition to some material of their own. The word `Kraja' is in the
Sami language and means "the place you long for". Critics and
audiences have warmly embraced Kraja and the group has enjoyed
performing for audiences all over Sweden, and in Germany, Finland,
Norway, Denmark, Ukraine and Estonia. For this 2008 recording the
ensemble has chosen to focus on some of Sweden's most cherished folksongs.
Groupa - Frost
Founded in 1980 during the dawn of the modern Nordic roots music
revival, this ensemble has always been at the forefront in innovating
and reinventing folk music in Sweden and Norway. Now a trio of Mats
Edén - fiddles; Terje Isungset - percussion and Jonas Simonson -
flutes, they continue to explore and expand in 11 strong instrumental
compositions based on traditional but reaching well beyond it
Annbjorg Lien - Waltz with Me
Norwegian hardanger fiddler and composer Annbjørg Lien was
commissioned last year to compose new music for the prestigious
Telemark Festival in Bø, Norway. She responded with an ensemble of
Bruce Molsky on violin and vocals, Christine Hanson on cello and
Mikael Marin on viola, then wrote a varied set of tradition-based
tunes and songs that reflect an eclectic attitude. The strong
chemistry shared by members of the group is apparent on each and every
track on ths lovely recording of new Nordic music.

A collection of favorite songs from favorite live projects and their
formerly released CDs: Kerstin solo, Kelpie and Talking Water, as well
as newly recorded favourites and tracks from a new studio project with
Scottish songwriter/ producer Bob Melrose
Luftstrak - Siska)
Maria Kalaniemi, Sven Ahlbäck and Johan Hedin are Luftstråk, a trio of
violin, nyckelharpa and accordion that explores their Swedish and
Finnish traditions to make new and creative music.

various - Songs Across Walls of Separation
We have built walls around ourselves for centuries, trying (futilely)
to protect ourselves from 'contamination.' This recording seeks to
expose the emotional dimension around what building of walls do to
individuals in a growing number of countries, presenting artists from
Palestine, Morocco, Syria, Kashmir, Cyprus and Mexico performing
together with American and European artists presenting their
interpretations in English of the original songs. Artists include Rim
Banna (Palestine), Mahmoud Gania (Morocco), Abdul Rashid Farash
(Kashmir), Esmaeel Mdah (Syria), Michael Tterlikkas (Cyprus), Natacha
Atlas (UK/Egypt), Tom Russell (USA), Mimi Goese (USA), Sarah Jane
Morris (UK), Eva Dahlgren (Sweden) and Morten Harket (Norway).
Produced by Erik Hillstad (Lullabies form the Axis of Evil) with
musical direction by Knut Reiersud.
Iver Kleive and Aage Kvalbein - Til trøst (Comfort me)
Using the Steinway grand piano in the Kulturkirken Jakob and a cello,
two of Norways greatest musicians have dug deep into the world of
melancholy. Kvalbein and Kleive take the listener on a journey through
musical gems from classical music, traditional folk songs and
well-loved ballads.
Knut Reiersrud band - Voodoo without killing chicken
The Norwegian composer and guitarist goes full tilt into the music of
New Orleans in an agressive and unique way, rife with his energetic
playing an d a gang of top nothc blues, jazz and rock ifluenced
musicians. This album features 11 songs that Reiersrud's distinctive
signature, and with six of the lyrics co-authored with Jeff Wasserman.
SKRUK and Katia Cardenal - Messe for Kari og Ola | Misa Campesina
A 'Mass for the Man in the Street' is the Nicaraguan mass by composer
Carlos Mejia Godoy. The Norwegian vocal ensemble SKRUK soloist is
joined by soloist Katia Cardenal and a band of Nicaraguan musicians in
this unique take on liturgical traditions.
