------------------------------------------------------------------

New in the catalog:

Tsuumi Sound System - Hotas
The Finnish modern folk music group consists of eight musicians with
very different backgrounds. The record was made by a steady
eight-piece group known for spectacular live performances and with the
assistance of producer Roger Tallroth they bring their on-stage energy
into the studio in a way they have not done before. Highly recommended.

Frigg - Live
The Finnish-Norwegian group produces fresh Scandinavian folk fiddling
accompanied by fretted instruments, upright bass and endless energy in
this live recording made in concert in 2007.

Timo Alakotila and Johanna Juhola - Vapaassa tilassa
One of the fathers of Finnish chamber folk, pianist Timo Alakotila
joins forces with accordionist Johanna Juhola (a member of Troka among
other projects), in duets, solos and small ensemble arrangements that
include Aili Ikonen, Petri Hakala, Jouni Järvelä, Pekka Kuusisto and
Roger Tallroth. Excellent and highly recommended.

Jonas Knutsson and Horn Please - Horn Please!
Swedish folk and horn music on six saxophones, bass and percussion.
Led by veteran saxophonist/composer/arranger Jonas Knutsson, some of
the prominent younger Swedish folk musicians are presented in music
that goes from the traditional to the newly composed, and from the
strictly arranged to the wildly improvised. The horn players:
Alexandra Särström, Å sa Johansson, Hanna Wiskari, Klas Toresson,
Daniel Carlsson; plus Bengt Jonasson and Petter Berndalen on bass and
percussion. Compositions by Knutsson and traditional music from
different parts of Sweden and South India. Highly recommended

Kirjava lintu - Kirjava lintu
Kirjava Lintu's first recording contains new, original, acoustic folk
music composed to the poetry of several Finnish poets ( Helvi
Hämäläinen, Hannele Huovi, Aki Luostarinen and Lauri Pohjanpää).
Founded in 2004, the band's acoustic compositions are influenced by
Scandinavian folk music, from Swedish polskas to Finnish ballads
composed and arranged by the harmonium player Juha Kujanpää and
performed by vocalists, two violins, Swedish nyckelharpa, harmonium,
double bass and percussion.

Alamaailman Vasarat - Maahan
The 2006 release by this amazing Finnish ensemble presents a clash of
ideas from rock, folk, jazz and the avant garde, led by brass and wind
instruments and a dramatic dual-cello section. Totally unique.

Fagel Roc - Kropp och Själ
Sweden-based Fågel Roc gets its inspiration from their own home and
around the world, and the band of synth-guitar, keyboards, bass and
percussion uses an excellent pallat of Latin rhythms, Oriental
melodies, western pop, Bagdad rock, and what they call Etnoschlager.
They are vocally led by the wonderful Nadia Louis, an Iraq singer now
based in Sweden who works in many languages including Assyrian and
Swedish.

Milla Viljamaa and Johanna Juhola - Duo
Johanna Juhola (accordion) and Milla Viljamaa (piano) are young urban
fusion-folk musicians from Finland. They began their collaboration at
the Sibelius Academy. Overall the duo's repertoire is diverse,
features idiosyncratic arranging and performing styles with influences
from tango nuevo a la Piazzolla, many kinds of jazz and the folk music
of various countries, with lost of room left for variation and
improvisation.

Pekko Käppi - Jos ken pahoin uneksii
The Finnish traditional horse hair lyre called jouhikko is transformed
from the tradition by this master musician. His influences come mainly
from Finnish folk- and song tradition, but also the North American
root music as well as Russian and Siberian indigenous music . This is
Käppi's first full album, where he concentrates on the rock side of
life and starts the record with a beat that goes on like a steam
train, combining jouhikko with folkrock, song tradition from other
cultures, old gospels and psychedelia. Remarkable new music.

Frifot - Flyt
The super-group of Nordic roots music returns in 2007 with another
fantastic release. Per Gudmundson, Ale Möller and Lena Willemark
pretty well define the new folk-movement in Sweden, and this release
finds them returning to a rougher, rootsier sound. Highly recommended.

Phønix offers a very original and personal expression

------------------------------------------------------------------

New in the catalog:
Just a sampling: see all new titles at http://www.cdroots.com/new.shtml

Sanna Kurki-Suonio - Huria
Another powerful work by the singer who helped bring Hedningarna to
international fame, Huria is a follow-up to Sanna Kurki-Suoni's
acclaimed Kainuu, a duo project with Riitta Huttunen, this 2007
release pushes the boundaries of their exploration of Karelian folk
music with a stronger, more contemporary trio project, joined by
Karelian multi-instrumentalist Jari Lappalainen.

Petri Hakala - Trad.
Finnish Fiddle Tunes on Guitars and Mandolins performed by one of
Finland's great string masters, who has played with many of the
country's leading new-folk musicians including Erik Hokkanen, Maria
Kalaniemi, Ottopasuuna and the Helsinki Mandoliners.

Halogeeni - Loistava Perimä
Halogeeni is a Kokkola, Finland based trio that combines Finnish folk
music with their own trad-style tunes and songs on harmonium, mandolin
and 1- and 2-row accordions. Juha Virtanen's straightforward and
eloquent accordion playing gives a soul to Halogeeni´s music. Juha has
also composed most of the bands instrumentals. Halogeeni´s harmonium
player Anne-Mari Hakamäki and mandolin player Matti Hakamäki are the
vocalists of the trio. Old style songs sung in a peculiar way are an
essential part of Halogeeni's repertoire.

Dazibao - E40
The second release by this wonderful Belgian ensemble will surely
garner as much acclaim as their previous CD, Alma. The diatonic
accordions of Sophie Cavez and Jonathan de Neck are still in the
forefront, musically and compositionally, but this 2007 release offers
a more confident ensemble sound, a little richer in jazz roots while
still solidly enthralled the folk roots of their region. Exceptional
music from an exceptional ensemble, once again.

Polkaholix - The Great Polka Swindle
The band says: 'No Polka - no fun! Without Polka there is no TexMex,
no Merengue, no Ska, no Punk, no - I don't know what. Firstly: no
Rock'n Roll. - What, you didn't know that?' Well, they do it all...
and more, with high energy, great musicianship and lots of attitude.

Philip Glass / Leonard Cohen - Book of Longing
Based on the poetry of Leonard Cohen, a song cycle composed for
ensemble, singers, spoken word and imagery is the culmination of years
of mutual admiration between these two artists. The piece features new
music by Philip Glass that is inspired by Cohen poems and artwork. In
addition to narration by Leonard Cohen, this recording features the
composer on keyboard and longtime collaborator Michael Riesman
conducting The Philip Glass Ensemble. Glass's composition evokes the
magic in Cohen's most intimate prose with uncommon clarity. Includes a
deluxe digipack with the full libretto and Leonard Cohen's original
artwork.

Klezmic Zirkus - Vitamine K
Original compositions and traditional themes from Eastern Europe are
spiced up with jazz, classical, rock, folk and reggae to create a
copletely personal musical style. Aurélie Charneux (clarinet), Julien
De Borman (diatonic accordion), Adrien Lambinet (trombone, tuba),
Pierre Greco (double bass), and Wouter Roggemans (drums) Listen

Susanne Lundeng - Nattevak
Susanne Lundeng, Norwegian fiddler and write, has a personal style and
characteristic sound, and with her band virtually an extension of her
violin, she creates new music that is well entrenched in the Norwegian
folk music tradition. Susanne Lundeng's violin and vocals are
acommanied dby her long time band on guitars (including an
uncharacteristic slide guitar), mandolin, accordion, drums,
electronics bass and vocals. recorded at the old Vaeroy rectory in Norway.

Bellowhead - Burlesque (BACK IN STOCK!)
I have tried to tone down the prose to write this description, but
what can I do? This is a remarkable recording, a shock to the sytem.
fROOTS' Colin Erwin calls it "Astonishing!" It's Brecht meets Childe
in Copeland's backyard, chats with Coltrane and dances with brass
monkeys. This 11 piece band of notorious trad-arr hipsters (including
Spiers and Boden and Benji Kirkpatrick) plays accordions, fiddles and
such, punched into high gear by brass band and strings, and all manner
of exceptional strangeness ensues. It's all traditional, in a sense,
but like nothing you have heard before. Bonus: the package is a small,
lovely hardcover book with lyrics, photos (wild!) and more.

Oysterband - Meet You There (BACK IN STOCK!)
The new studio album by the Brit folk-rock legends, released March, 2007

For all you folks who heard the latest piece on Danish folk music on
National Public radio recently: I now have all the CDs that were
whisked off the shelves back in stock, including all the studio
recordings by the guiar./fiddle team of Haugaard and Hoirup.

New in the catalog:
Just a sampling: see all new titles at http://www.cdroots.com/new.shtml

Kristine Heeboll - 10 Point
The Danish fiddler (of Trio Mio and Phonix) steps back to the front on
her 2007 release of original tunes, backed by an impressive ensemble
from around Scandinavia: Dan Gisen Malmquist (clarinet and bass
clarinet), Peter Eget (harmonika), Ditte Fromseier (violin and
bratsch), Andreas Tophøj (violin) and Cecillie Hyldgaard (cello). The
sounds run from elegant to exhuberant, and Heebøll once again shows
that she has what it takes to bring Danish folk music to the frontline
of Nordic roots music.

Henrik Jansberg - Omnivor
The young Danish fiddler comes to 2007 with a full band and an
insatiable appetite for new musical idea. Joined by his own tourning
band of violin, viola, guitars, mandolins, banjo, drums, percussion,
nyckelharpa, dobro and doublebass with guests Christopher Davis Maack
on violin and Sonnich Lydom playing harmonica and diatonic accordion.

Duo Milla Viljamaa and Johanna Juhola - Mi Retorno
Johanna Juhola (accordion) and Milla Viljamaa (piano) are young urban
fusion-folk musicians from Finland. They began their collaboration at
the Sibelius Academy. Overall the duo's repertoire is diverse,
features idiosyncratic arranging and performing styles with influences
from tango nuevo a la Piazzolla, many kinds of jazz and the folk music
of various countries, with lost of room left for variation and
improvisation.
(Please note: this was originally listed in the catalog, ,
erroneously, under the title "Duo")

Tam Na Vulinn - Vestibule
Belgian trio Tam Nà Vulinn plays fast and loose with both tradition
and jazz, and pushes the boundaries of what they themselves call folk
music. Alexis Amette (guitars), Baptiste Argouarc'h (5 stringed
violin) and Mathieu Guyon (percussion, vibraphone) are joined on a few
tracks by guests Charles Lucas (bass) and Yannick Leblay (programming)
hint at Celtic and American roots, Flemish tradition and global pop,
ultimately producing a sound that is quite original. Fans of the great
Tesi-Valliant duo projects will find this intriquing.

Kraja - Under Himmelens Fäste
Swedish vocalists Linnea Nilsson, Eva Lestander, Lisa Lestander and
Frida Johansson are from Umeå in Sweden. Their unique four part
harmony song arrangements and repertoire comprise traditional Swedish
folk songs, love songs, humorous songs, dance lilts and chorales, in
addition to some material of their own. The word `Kraja' is in the
Sami language and means "the place you long for". Critics and
audiences have warmly embraced Kraja and the group has enjoyed
performing for audiences all over Sweden, and in Germany, Finland,
Norway, Denmark, Ukraine and Estonia. For this 2008 recording the
ensemble has chosen to focus on some of Sweden's most cherished folksongs.

Groupa - Frost
Founded in 1980 during the dawn of the modern Nordic roots music
revival, this ensemble has always been at the forefront in innovating
and reinventing folk music in Sweden and Norway. Now a trio of Mats
Edén - fiddles; Terje Isungset - percussion and Jonas Simonson -
flutes, they continue to explore and expand in 11 strong instrumental
compositions based on traditional but reaching well beyond it

Annbjorg Lien - Waltz with Me
Norwegian hardanger fiddler and composer Annbjørg Lien was
commissioned last year to compose new music for the prestigious
Telemark Festival in Bø, Norway. She responded with an ensemble of
Bruce Molsky on violin and vocals, Christine Hanson on cello and
Mikael Marin on viola, then wrote a varied set of tradition-based
tunes and songs that reflect an eclectic attitude. The strong
chemistry shared by members of the group is apparent on each and every
track on ths lovely recording of new Nordic music.

Kerstin Blodig - Nordisk Sjel
A collection of favorite songs from favorite live projects and their
formerly released CDs: Kerstin solo, Kelpie and Talking Water, as well
as newly recorded favourites and tracks from a new studio project with
Scottish songwriter/ producer Bob Melrose

Luftstrak - Siska)
Maria Kalaniemi, Sven Ahlbäck and Johan Hedin are Luftstråk, a trio of

various - Songs Across Walls of Separation
We have built walls around ourselves for centuries, trying (futilely)
to protect ourselves from 'contamination.' This recording seeks to
expose the emotional dimension around what building of walls do to
individuals in a growing number of countries, presenting artists from
Palestine, Morocco, Syria, Kashmir, Cyprus and Mexico performing
together with American and European artists presenting their
interpretations in English of the original songs. Artists include Rim

joined by soloist Katia Cardenal and a band of Nicaraguan musicians in
this unique take on liturgical traditions.

Wolfgang Meyerings Malbrook - Qwade Wulf
Meyering's second outing features a more coalesced band and a more
cohesive sound. Songs about murder, jealousy and death. Strange
children songs in polka style and a suite of schottische (Schotsken)
played on mandola, mandolin, hurdy gurdy, German and Swedish bagpipe,
Bohemian/German harp, flutes, fiddles, percussion, loops, sounds and more.

Selsolater - Låter fra Selsø
New traditional folk music, originating from the bank of Selsø Lake,
west of Copenhagen, Denmark. Svend Erik Pedersen is inspired by the
beautiful nature surrounding thearea. The changing colors during the
day and throughout the year, as well as the constant sounds from the
rich bird life in the lake area, are great sources of inspiration. In
Selsølåter the modern and traditional tunes from Danish, Nordic and
Irish folk music meet and intertwine.Frankly all good tunes and
fiddlers mature by heart. The band members of Selsølåter are all
connected to Lirum Larum and the very traditional and living folk
music region of Roskilde. Fiddler, mandolinist and composer Pedersen
is joine di the band by an group of great violins, , guitar, bass,
organ and percussion.

Carl Erik Lundgaard - Yderland
Danish diatonic accordionist joined by a wide ranging ensemble of
tradtional and modern musicians including Harald Haugaard, Mads
Riishede, Christoffer S. Møller and many others. Yderland consists of
primarily new material from accordionist Carl Erik Lundgaard, arranged
and produced in cooperation with bassist Mads Riishede. The music is
expressive, and has stories to tell, both serious and humorous.

Baltic Crossing - Baltic Crossing
Baltic Crossing use their strong affinity for old dance music and
respect for each others traditions to bring a new youthful energy to
the folk music of Europe. Wherever they meet, at least one has to
cross the Baltic Sea. The ensemble is Kristian Bugge (DK) on violin;
Antti Jarvela (FI) on acocustic bass, mandolin, banjo; Esko Jarvela
(FI) on violin, viola; Andy May (UK) on Northumbrian and Uilleann
pipes and piano and Ian Stephenson (UK) on guitar, melodeon.

Frigg - Economy Class
Frigg return with their third studio album, advancing their place as
young leaders of the Nordic roots music movement. Frigg continue to
forge a unique concoction of string music from many cultures through
the filter of their native traditions of Finland and Norway. With
elements of Appalachian, Celtic, and Eastern European folk influences,
this band of fiddles, bass, guiatar, mandolin and percussion delivers
another brilliant collection.

Zegar Zivi - Zegar Zivi (Zegar Lives)
Powerful acapella group vocals, often using the wild
beating-against-drone technique of groktenje, diple playing,
goat-calling and church-bell ringing from a group of amazingly
resilient Serbian singers who've moved back to their village of Žegar
in the rocky hill-country of Dalmatia in Croatia – a region
war-shattered in the 1990s and still depopulated, but beautiful and
now peaceful - to rebuild their homes and pick up the threads of their
lives and rich musical traditions. The album's title, and the group's
name, means Žegar Lives.Recorded in Žegar in May 2007, produced by
Andrew Cronshaw in collaboration with Svetlana Spaji?. The digipak
contains a 60 page booklet with many photos and extensive notes
including the background story to the recordings (in English).

Les Witches - Manuscrit Susanne van Soldt: Danses, chansons and
psaumes des Flandres, 1599
The source of this music is Susan Van Soldt's manuscript of the end of
the 16th century, comprising dances, songs and psalms adapted to the
virginal or the harpsichord. Aged 16 when she noted in this copy-book
the pieces she probably enjoyed playing at home, Susan was a young
protestant who had to leave Flanders for England with her family at
this time of raging religious conflict between Christians. The
majority of pieces in the manuscript are reductions for the keyboard.
Contrary to what is usually the case, the Witches had therefore to
imagine, on the basis of these reductions, the «original » versions
for instrumental ensembles and hence recreate the tonal colours that
we see in Brueghel's country fairs, weddings and village feasts.
Claire Michon : flute, Freddy Eichelberger : virginal and organ, Odile
Edouard : violin, Pascale Boquet : lute, Sylvie Moquet : viola da
gamba, Mickaël Cozien : virginal, Françoise Rivalland : percussion and
rommelpot.

Dúmbala Canalla - M´enfango
A wild and rambuctious band, this Barcelona-based band combines the
traditional music of the Balkans with traditional Catalan music, swing
and klezmer, the music of the Eastern European Ashkenazi Jews. The
present a raucous festival music full of rich, often circus-like melodies.

Catriona McKay and Olov Johansson
Foogy

They met in Stockholm 2002 to share a concert with their bands, Väsen from
Sweden and Shetland based Fiddlers' Bid. Backstage before the concert Catriona
asked Olov 'Do you know this one?' and played Eric Sahlström's Spelmansglädje.

Varttina
25

2008 marked Värttinä's 25th year as a band. The CD includes twenty-two tracks
taken from all their eleven albums and the Archive Live DVD plus an unreleased
song "Vipinäveet" recorded during the sessions for their album Miero. The "25"
album also features lyrics, fotos from their entire career and deluxe,
four-color, digipak design with 24 page booklet.

and NQN (not quite Nordic)

QQQ
Unpacking The Trailer

QQQ unspools folk music from a place where bluegrass, Norwegian wedding marches,
progressive rock, and post-minimalism have merged into a funky, engaging hybrid.
Dan Trueman plays the Hardanger fiddle, Monica Mugan is on classical guitar,
Beth Meyers on viola and Jason Treuting does the drums and percussion. It is a
wild and decidedly non-traditional mix, yet the music still sounds ancient and
rooted.

-------------------------------------

Kraja
Under Himmelens Fäste

Swedish vocalists Linnea Nilsson, Eva Lestander, Lisa Lestander and Frida
Johansson are from Umeå in Sweden. Their unique four part harmony song
arrangements and repertoire comprise traditional Swedish folk songs, love songs,
humorous songs, dance lilts and chorales, in addition to some material of their
own. The word 'Kraja' is in the Sami language and means "the place you long
for". Critics and audiences have warmly embraced Kraja and the group has enjoyed
performing for audiences all over Sweden, and in Germany, Finland, Norway,
Denmark, Ukraine and Estonia. For this 2008 recording the ensemble has chosen to
focus on some of Sweden's most cherished folksongs.

cdRoots - New Nordic Roots

Lots of Danes, and more

http://www.cdroots.com

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Valravn - Koder på snor
The title ("Codes on a string") is inspired by the science of 'string theory' -
that all forces and particles in the universe are connected. This second album by
the band features original compositions based on tradition. Faroese singer Anna
Katrin Egilstrøð still leads with her melancholic and longing Nordic tone as a
starting point, and the band (from Denmark, Swizterland and Ecuador, using
violins, violas, hurdy-gurdy, percussion and keyboards) offers power and space
in fair measure to support her vision and sound.

Kefir Kvartet - Kefir
Unusual new music produced in a folk-rooted tradition, but a full out experiment
in mixing unique new sounds with the old. Instruments include bouzouki (Greek
and irish), guitar, percussion, violin, melodica, cittern and bass. Highly
recommended for the adventurous ear.

Karl Skaarup with Kristian Bugge - Musician
Traditional Danish folk music presented by an 85 year old master on the
accordion, accompanied by fiddle

Anja Praest Mikkelsen - Hemmeligheden / The Secret
Clarinetist from Phonix, Anja Præst Mikkelsen, stands out front for the first
time on her own recording, although she is joined by fellow band members and
other great musicians form the new folk movement in Denmark: Sigurd Hockings'
Nikolaj Busk, Jesper Vinther, Ditte Fromseier Mortensen, Andreas Tophøj, Jakob
Holdensen, Peter Sejersen, Rikke Lundorff, Kirstine Elise Pedersen, Rasmus
Henriksen, Jesper Falch and Jes Kroman.

String Sisters - Live
Top fiddlers from the Celtic and Scandinavian traditions gather for a show at
Glasgow's Celtic Connections Festival. Featuring Annbjorg Lien, Catriona
MacDonald, Liz Carroll, Liz Knowles, Mairead ni Mhaonaigh, and Emma Hardelin.
Solo, in various groupings, and sometimes backed by piano, bass, guitar or
percussion. Highly recommended!

Serras - Ø
The fourth Serras album is entitled "Ø" - the Danish word for island. The new CD
was composed and recorded in the hall of an old hotel. The surroundings, the
tranquility and a very relaxed mood have had a huge impact upon the music, far
more subdued compared to earlier albums. But there is still music here with the
powerful expression that has always been their trademark. The band is growing
up, developing subtlty and grace along with power and energy. Sune Rahbek :
Drums, Harald Haugaard : Fiddle, Sune Hånsbæk : Guitar, Mads Riishede : Bass,
Hans Mydtskov : Saxophone, Torben Sminge : Sound engineer

Trio THG - Tungen ud af vinduet
The trio of Andreas Tophoj on violin, Sigurd Hockings on guitar, and Michael
Graubaek on violin stick their "Tongue Out of the Window" on this excellent new
folk disc from Denmark.

Fin Alfred - Sange fra min vandring
Songs from my Travels: 60 years of singing traditional Danish songs and ballads"
is a wonderful presentation of classic folk songs from Denmark. In 2009 Fin
Alfred is celebrating his 60th anniversary as a traditional singer by releasing
his 20th album and by touring in Denmark with his son, guitarist Morten Alfred
Høirup. They are accompanied on the CD by Anders Hofset (bass) and Claus Fossing
(drums).

TrioTinus - Trio Tinus
Traditional Danish dance music inspired by the legendary dance band Æ'Tinusser.
The trio is Carl Erik Lundgaard: cromatic accordion, mouth organ; Anders
Ringgaard: trombone and Vagn Dahl Hansen: piano.

Zenobia - Midnat
Zenobia is a Danish folktrio that plays well-known Danish folksongs and original
compositions. With varied backgrounds in folk, jazz, popular song, Argentine
tango, the trio of Louise Støjberg - vocal; Mette Kathrine Jensen - accordion;
and Charlotte Støjberg - piano offer a unique and subtle new music.

Hal Parfitt-Murray and Nikolaj Busk - Hal and Nikolaj
14 tracks of decidedly "new folk" from Denmark, played by two great musicians on
violin, viola, mandolin, five-string guitar, voice, feet, grand piano, harmonium
and accordion

Gabriel Yacoub - de la nature des choses
It took seven years for this French artist to compose and record an all new
studio work, but the wait is always worth it when you have an artist of such
high caliber. Joined by a wonderful ensemble (including Gilles Chabenat, Yannick
Hardouin, Julien Biget and many more), his voice is surrounded by deep folk
roots and modern sounds, all to the service of 14 rich and marvelous songs. As
you might suspect from this description, it comes highly recommended!

mazurka to hot-headed hopsars and plaintive waltzes, sometimes with elements of
more contemporary popular music styles in the arrangements.

What's that noise?

Yes, I'm still around and no, I don't know of any better or newer group on this
subject - otherwise I might not be around anymore...

Things do seem to have been very quiet for a long, long time. It's hard to find out much about Scandinavian music in the UK,so I don't know if I'm missing anything. Nothing from Hedningarna or Garmarna for years. I got 2 CDs by Valravn that were pretty good & heard a track  by Fejd that was promising. Anybody know about anything else?

Jienat - Mira
An exploration of Sami roots that is totally non-traditional, completely global
and thoroughly original. Composed, arranged and recorded by Norwegian musician
Andreas Fliflet, the musicians and singers on this project explore the world to
find new ways to express old emotions and ideas. I urge you to LISTEN! Highly
recommended.

Seven Winds (Lovlid, Aw and Nystrom) - Seven Winds
Unni Løvlid, Becaye Aw and Rolf-Erik Nystrøm form the unique Seven Winds trio
with roots in Senegal and Norway. Thoroughly modern in conceit, they blend the
languages and music of many parts of the world into a seamless tapestry that is
at once familiar and unique. HIGHLY recommended.

Berit Opheim Versto and Karl Seglem - Draumkvedet
Norwegian singer Berit Opheim Versto and reed player Karl Seglem take on the
great epic poem of Norway in a powerful new recording.

Eplemoya Songlag - Eplemoya Songlag
Eplemøya Songlag is three Norwegian female singers; Liv Ulvik (traditional folk
singer), Wenche Losnegård (jazz vocalist) and Anja Eline Skybakmoen (jazz
vocalist). The vocal group has developed a specific and interesting sound,
exploring the possibilities in the fusion between jazz vocals and Norwegian
traditional singing. They sing their own compositions as well as traditional
Norwegian material arranged in their own way. Eplemøya Songlag has power and
energy. They mix humor, experimental improvisation and storytelling. Their sound
is sometimes powerful; sometimes whispering and wondering. Tradition meets
innovation.

Annbjørg Lien and Bjørn Ole Rasch - Come Home
With Lien on fiddle, hardanger fiddle and nyckelharpa (and a bit of vocal) and
Rasch playing harmonium, the duo offers both traditional and original material
on this 2010 release.

Johan Hedin and Gunnar Idenstam - Låtar II - Swedish Folk Tunes
Gunnar Idenstam, organ and Johan Hedin, nyckelharpa, play tunes, reels and other
dances in this second volume of duets.

Lisa o Piu - When This Was The Future
The debut full-length release by Sweden's Lisa Isaksson and her band. As summer
came and turned Sweden into a green and pleasant place in the early 70s, the
core members of Piu went to a small cottage in the beautiful archipelago north
of Stockholm and recorded what was to become this LP. The album is filled with
delicious and bewitching woodland folk hymnals, eloquent yet eerie, and led by
Lisa's gossamer vocals, as delicate as a wavering candle flame. The album is
produced by Mattias Gustavsson (Life On Earth!/Dungen), and it somehow divinely
conjures the essence of Linda Perhacs, Bridget St. John, Joni Mitchell, Sandy
Denny, Vashti Bunyan, and Joanna Newsom into one singular siren, but with a
thoroughly unique, thoroughly haunting delivery.

Sanna Kurki-Suonio - Huria
Back in stock! - Another powerful work by the singer who helped bring
Hedningarna to international fame, Huria is a follow-up to Sanna Kurki-Suoni's
acclaimed Kainuu, a duo project with Riitta Huttunen, this 2007 release pushes
the boundaries of their exploration of Karelian folk music with a stronger, more
contemporary trio project, joined by Karelian multi-instrumentalist Jari
Lappalainen.

Iver Kleive - Requiem
Iver Kleive's captivating requiem is dedicated to his son Alexander, the 11
September terror victims and soldiers who have fallen in the Iraqi war. Based on
traditional requiem texts in Latin, it is composed for choir, organ and two
soloists. It was recorded in Lubljana in Slovenia.

Hildur Gudnadottir - Mount A
This album was originally released as 'Lost In Hildurness,' and it is the first
solo recording from Hildur Gudnadóttir (who is a member of the Nix Noltes band
and has performed regularly with múm and Pan Sonic). In her dreamy soundworld
she plays the cello, gamba, zither, khuur and the gamelan. This is exciting,
tranquil, and melancholic stuff and at times it makes you think of a lost place
and times gone by. Recording sessions took place both in New York and in a house
in Hólar, Iceland, specifically chosen for its good cello acoustics. It is
strictly a solo album as Hildur attempted to "involve other people as little as
I could." Like the cover art, it is personal and intimate. It has been called
"the perfect soundtrack to get lost in a forest at night," but this version,
mastered by Denis Blackham, sounds fresher and better than ever. Photography and
design by Jon Wozencroft.

Harald Fylken - Hardingfele
Historic recordings by Norwegian hardangar fiddler Harald Fylken (1910-1963).
The first tracks on this CD are taken from a series of recordings Gudbrand A.
Brager made in April 1962, by Arne Bjørndal in July 1957 and by Erik Steine
Riste at Harald's home in 1958.

Zulya - Tales of Subliming
Somewhat of a departure from Zulya's previous albums, Zulya revisits the
fairytales of her childhood, creating her most adventurous work to date. She
explains, "Subliming has two meanings; turning from a solid into a gas
instantaneously - like dry ice, or becoming finer, purer. There's often a
transformation in fairy stories. They are about our journeys to achieve
individuality in a symbolic form. Some say each of us identifies with our own
fairy story or with a character from one. Tales of Subliming is a collection of
vignettes from these characters' lives, little scenes from their journeys." Her
vocals float above a musical backdrop that features brass arrangements (courtesy
of newest band member Eamon McNelis); a Tom Waits inspired tuned and mallet
percussion; plus newer sounds courtesy of percussion loops, manipulated piano
tones and hurdy-gurdy. The end result sees Zulya breaking new sonic ground on
her 2010 recording.

SKRUK and Mahsa Vahdat - I Vinens Speil
Sufi poems by Rumi and Hafez, interpreted by Iranian vocalist Mahsa Vahdat and
Norwegian producer Erik Hillestad, and presented by the vocal ensemble SKRUK and
Mahsa Vahdat, in arrangements by Tord Gustavsen. The intrumental ensemble
includes piano, percussion and bass. This is a true merging of the classical and
the traditional from two disparate cultures.

Sondre Bratland and Annbjørg Lien - Alle vegne
For a number of years the duo of Sondre Bratland and Annbjørg Lien have been
performing together in concerts in Norwegian churches. This CD, Alle vegne
presents their fully ripened versions of Norwegian religious folk songs. A
singer and a musician two artists who each have strong followings in Norway have
joined forces to reach deep into the folk tradition.

Gjermund Larsen Trio - Aurum
One of the young lions of Norwegian Hardanger fiddle, Larsen creates a
folk-rooted but modern music. He is joined on this recording by Andreas Utnem -
piano; and Sondre Meisfjord - bass. Larsen has composed all the songs, and
although traditional music provides his main source of inspiration, he doesn't
compose in a strictly traditional style, being influenced by Baroque music,
jazz, contemporary music, pop, rock, bluegrass and other Scandinavian folk
music.

Sudan Dudan - Kari Og Ola
Norwegian duo of Marit Mattisgard and Anders E. Røine , now called Sudan Dudan,
finally bring us a second recording, with old songs from Norwegian and Anglo
folk traditions, played on guitars, langeleik (Norwegian zither), fiddle, banjo,
mandolin and voices.

Mathias Eick, Pasha Hanjani and Ertan Tekin - Tre Vise Menn (Three Wise Men)
Mathias Eick, the Norwegian jazz instrumentalist has come together with Ertan
Tekin and Pasha Hanjani in Istanbul, the city where East meets West and the past
meets the present. Together they have improvised a Christmas CD based on
Christmas melodies like "En rose er utsprungen" (A Spotless Rose is Growing),
"Folkefrelsar til oss kom" (Saviour of the Nations, Come) and "Mitt hjerte
alltid vanker" (My Heart is Always with Jesus). Oriental sounds and harmonies
fuse with Western melodies to give you an deep feeling for the universal message
of the holiday.

Banna, Barghouti, Murad, Jawaher Shofani - A Time to Cry: A Lament Over
Jerusalem
Palestinian singers Rim Banna, Nai Barghouti, Wissam Murad, Jawaher Shofani
present songs for Jerusalem, accompanied on traditional and modern instruments
with musicians from Norway, the US and the Middle East. The recordings were made
in a Palestine home in East Jerusalem that was (in May of 2010) threatened with
eviction to make way for new Jewish housing.

Dalakopa et al - Vindens hjul - Gammeldansmesse
Sacred music composed by Henning Sommerro and performed by the ensemble Dalkopa
and a chamber group of musicians and singers (1996 release)

Kari Bremnes - Fantastisk Allerede
The Norwegian singer celebrates her 30th year as a recording artist with this
compilation of highlights from her career so far. 2 CDs covers a wide range of
styles and musical ideas from folk to pop and beyond.

Kirsten Bråten Berg - Songen
The legendary Norwewgian singer's 2010 recording features a fantastic ensemble
including Annbjørg Lien, Arild Andersen, Stian Carstensen, Bjørn Ole Rasch, and
Leiv Solberg

various (2 CDs) - Højbystævnet 2009: Musik fra forsamlingshuset
Live performances in denmark in September 2009 for dancers and musicians by
Danish, Norwegian and Swedish artists - Kristian Bugge and Band, Gässbiköllor,
BØG, John Ole Morken and Jørgen Nyrønning

Dreamers Circus - Dreamers Circus (EP)
A 5 song mini-album by threee musicians of diverse backgrounds. Nikolaj, Ale and
Rune create a very modern type of Nordic folk - spontaneous, explosive
arrangements with creative though natural contrasts that will sweep you off the
floor. Nikolaj (piano/accordion) comes from the world of jazz, Rune (violin)
from the world of classical music and Ale (cittern/violin) from the world of
folk music - and they mix every part of their musical experiences together with
open-minded results. Brand new tunes, mostly composed by Ale, offer a unique new
sound. Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen: violin and harmonium; Ale Carr: cittern and
violin; Nikolaj Busk: grand piano, accordion; with guests Roger Tallroth and
Sofia Karlsson

Abild - Methea
Methea (Mette Marie Jacobsen) was the daughter of a Danish businessman in the
1760s. For her 16th birthday, her father has a musician from odense make her a
music book. Abild has taken the music from that book and recreated it for a
modern folk quartet of violins, keyboards, accordions, mandolin, guitar and
bratsch.

Anne-Marie Giortz - Pa Egne Vegne
With a stripped down ensemble sound (featuring marimbas, bass, percussion,
banjo, keyboards and guitar), Norwegian composer and vocalist Anne-Marie Giørtz
creates a completely unique recording, rooted in jazz, pop and folk, but
beholden to none. Highly recommended! (There is a sample in the audio stream and
a few samples online. Listen!)

Rannock - Rannock
Energetic polkas and atmospheric ballads hand-picked from the Danish repertoire
as well as a few original compositions. Rannok delivers rustic and lively folk
music, including everything from simple polka just like mamma played it to
warm-hearted waltzes With a shared passion for traditional melodies, they offer
a new take on their ancestors' music: contemporary interpretations interspersed
with original tunes written with respect for the folk tradition. Traditional
fiddler Michael Graubæk, and pianist Theis Juul Langlands (who plays a variety
of musical styles and adds a modern approach to the traditional tunes) approach
their music with an open mind to allow for lively, organic interplay.

Stine Michel - Frejas Viser
Singer Michel is joined by a fine band of Danish folk and modern musicians:
Gustaf Ljungren: mandolin, clarinet, tenor guitar; Perry Stenbäck: guitar,
nyckelharpa, dobro; Nikolaj Busk:keyboards, accordions, harmonium; Hal
Parfitt-Murray: violin, cello, bratsch, mandola; Morten Lundsby:bass; Jesper Uno
Kofoed: drums and percussion

Baltic Crossing - Firetour
Baltic Crossing plays a collection of folk music from the Danish Islands,
Lolland and Falster. The 5 musicians from Finland, Denmark and UK - Esko
Järvelä, Antti Järvelä, Andy May, Ian Stephenson Kristian Bugge - play a
collection of folk music from the Danish Islands, Lolland and Falster. There is
music from 18th century manuscripts of Bast, Ålholm and Reventlow and music from
various 19th century collections like those of the Adrian family (Hillestrup,
Falster), Niels Christian Andreasen (Sandby, Western Lolland), and Hans Hansen
(Toreby, Eastern Lolland). And last but not least, the CD includes a new
composition, a polska tune by Frede Nielsen from Flintinge, Lolland. Through
local folk musicians Højreby Spillemandslaug a collaboration was quickly
established with Kristian Bugge (graduate of the folk music department at the
Carl Nielsen Academy of Music in Odense and music teacher at the local music
school on Lolland) and the band Baltic Crossing. Text and info in Danish and
English

Soren Krogh - Krogh synger Aakjær
Danish guitarist, singer and songwriter accompanied by a small ensemble of
accordion, violins, mandolin, etc. The songs are based on the history and
writings of 19th Century Danish agrarian and political rabble-rouser Jeppe
Aakaer. His songs are much in the same spirit of his hero, poet Robert Burns,
writing of country life and the comman worker with grit, melancholy and humor.
(And FYI: the songs are all sung in Danish.)

traditional songs of the Yuletide, as well as a few original songs, all done
with grace and musicianship.

Various artists (Norway) - Våkenatt for Hardanger
Various Norwegian singers and musicians offer their "Vigil for Hardangar" in
many different styles from pop to traditional folk. Artists include: Ole Paus,
William Hut, Herborg Kråkevik, Åsne Valland Nordli, Herborg Kråkevik and Anne
Grete Preus, Nils Petter Molvær, Bjarne Brøndbo, Ove Thue, Einar Mjølsnes,

Gunnar Halle and Espen Eriksen - Meditations on Christmas
Trumpet and piano duets improvise on both familiar old Christmas songs,
traditional favorites and lesser known Swedish works

Karuna - Hyvaa Matkaa
Karuna perform new Finnish folk music primarily with three keyboard instruments:
Esko Järvelä plays the nyckelharpa, Juha Kujanpää the piano) and Teija Niku the
accordion). The music on Hyvää matkaa (bon voyage) consists of original tunes
strongly influenced by Scandinavian folk music, but given a thoroughly modern
reading. Guest musicians add percussion, guitar and bass on a few tracks.

Zenobia - I Vintermorkets Hal
The Danish trio calls I Vintermørkets Hal an album "for all winters - from all
our winters. From the magically Christmassy ones when we were little girls, over
those shrouded in picturesque snow to those rainy and stormy ones." On voice,
piano and accordion (with many guests adding all sorts of other instruments),
Zenobia offer spritely dances, sad stories and joyous celebrations of the
winter's cold pleasures. Sometimes rustic, sometimes elegant, the music speaks
of winter in any language and any country.

Fiddlers Synnøve S. Bjørset, Åse Teigland and Anne Hytta travel under the name
of "Dei Beste Damene" (The Greatest Girls) - all highly skilled performers, each
one with a strong individual sound. Their eagerness and passion for the
Hardanger fiddle tunes have brought them together on stage where they perform as
soloists, showing the great diversity that lies in the mysterious universe of
this exceptional instrument and the wonderful traditional Norwegian music for
the hardingfele.

Sver - Fruen
This Norwegian folk ensemble shows lots of energy and little regard for the
'rules' of Norwegian folk music on their 2010 release. Olav Mjelva (fiddle,
hardangerfiddle and viola); Vidar Berge (Guitars, harmonica, mandola); Leif I.
Ranøien (squeezebox/ 2-row accoridion); Anders Hall (fiddle, hardangerfiddle and

hardinfele (Hardangar fiiddle), viola d'amore and sings. Born and educated in
Eidfjord in Hardanger, she now lives in Bergen and works as a freelance
musician. She has made a name for herself as both a great traditionalist as well
as a composer of new songs. This is her first solo recording.

Frode Alnæs, Arild Andersen, Stian Carstensen - Hostslov
The third in the seasonal song cycles by Norwegian jazz artists Stian Carstensen
(accordion), Frode Alnæs (acoustic and electric guitars) and Arild Andersen
(bass), Høstsløv explores autumn in original compositions and classics like Try

For some audio samples and more info, please see:

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Newest releases in the catalog:

Gabriel Fliflet - Åresong
The Norwegian singer and accordionist strikes again in 2011 accompanied by
musicians like Joined by Benedicte Maurseth, Kristoffer Chelsom Vogt, Stein
Urheim, Per Jørgensen, on guitars, percussion, bass, horns, fiddles, voices and
more. While it lacks the sheer madness of the Fliflet-Hamre recordings of the
90s, it's just as exploratory and adventurous, with a touch of romanticism.
Highly recommended.

Slattejazz - Slattehjerte
Slåttejazz is Helene Høye and Ole Sigvard Lunnan, and their 2011 release of
duets, Slåttehjerte, brings traditional Norwegian music to life on fiddle and
piano.

Kristian Ovrevollseie - Hardingfelespelemann frå Hovet i Hallingdal
2 CD set of traditional music from Norway. CD one is from an archive of 1950s
recordings by Kristian Øvrevollseie, CD two features new recordings of his music
by some of Norway's best: Kristian Øvrevollseie, Hardingfele; Gunnlaug Lien
Myhr, voice; Øyvind Brabandt, Hardingfele; Ingunn Stræte Lie, accordions; Jo
Asgeir Lie, accordion; Arne Anderdal, Hardingfele; Olav Luksengård Mjelva,
Hardingfele.

Gabriel Fliflet - Rio Aga
The Norwegian accordionist and writer is joined by a fine group of supporting
musicisns: Berit Opheim (voice), Gjermund Larsen (cello, fiddle), Sondre
Meisfjord (bass), Tore Bruvoll (guitars), Ånon Egeland (fiddle and jew's harp),
with music by Fliflet and lyrics by Ragnar Hovland. Highly recommended.

Kardemimmit - Kaisla
Produced by Antti Järvelä (Frigg JPP), this young band focuses on the kantele
but with interesting new compositions inspired by Finnish folk traditions.
Highly recommended.

Frigg - Grannen
The fifth recording from the fiddle-centric octet based in Kaustinen, Finland.
More suprises, more brilliant music, and all the energy and musicianship we have
come to expect.

Troka - Raharinki
The 2006 release by the Finnish ensemble is their third, and continues their
tradition of excellence in musicianship and interesting new approaches. Ville
Ojanen (fiddle, viola, mandolin, Matti Mäkelä (fiddle), Johanna Juhola
(accordion), Timo Alakotila (harmonium, piano), and Antti Järvelä (double bass).
Individually they have performed in some of the most influencial bands in
Finnish folk, including Folkkarit, Sikiät, JPP, Las Chicas del Tango, Spontaani
Vire, Hot Club de Kairela, Maria Kalaniemi & Aldargaz, Luna Nova, Frigg and many
more

Frigg - Live
The Finnish-Norwegian group produces fresh Scandinavian folk fiddling
accompanied by fretted instruments, upright bass and endless energy in this live
recording made in concert in 2007.

various, Norway - Norsk Brygg
A nice collection of "new routes" from Norway, some old, some new, from a 1979
chestnut to 2011 "up and coming" music. Valkyrien Allstars, String Sisters,
Chateau Neuf Spelemannslag, Blåmann Blåmann, Tre Nyhus, Gjermund Larsen Trio,
Dvergmål, Åse Teigland, Sven Nyhus Kvartett, Slinkombas, Bruvoll And Halvorsen,
Bukkene Bruse and others

Kvarts - Steinsprang
The Norwegian new-trad quartet returned in 2009 with this mareklous group of
interpretations of tradition. Three of the tunes here are composed by group
members, the remainder are traditional Norwegian folk tunes from east, west,
north and south. The members' musical backgrounds range from classical to
contemporary, via bluegrass and blues to Norwegian folk.

various- Norway - Håvardspel - Slåttar Etter Håvard Gibøen
The music of the old Norwegian master performed by Gunleik Smedal, Høye Kvåle,
Trygve O. Vågen, Eivind Mo, Olav S. Løndal, Olav K. Øyaland, Olav K. Øyaland and
many other.

Honndalstausene - Gamle Nordfjord
Honndalstausene arrived in 1983: seven girls swinging interplay that nay have
started a "girl wave" of Norwegian folk music. In 2008, Honndalstausene marked
its 25th anniversary with "Old Nordfjord." a look back and a leap into the next
quarter century, with seven tunes played on the Hardanger fiddle and the rest on
the fiddle. They may not be girls anymore, but the wave continues to roll.

Glima - Taran
Tårån is the work of three Norwegian artists, Helene Waage, Ragnhild Knudsen,
Torunn Raftevold Rue, on cello, hardangar fiddles and viola, stretching the
boundaries of folk music traditions in exciting and subtle ways.

Slattejazz - Slattehjerte
Slåttejazz is Helene Høye and Ole Sigvard Lunnan, and their 2011 release of
duets, Slåttehjerte, brings traditional Norwegian music to life on fiddle and
piano.

Sväng - Schladtzshe
The Finnish harmonica quartet strikes again. "Schladtzshe!" is both a swear and
a toast. The band explains it: "Brothers! Let us make our mistakes with pride,
for life otherwise is a mere collection of irrational occurrences. Let us empty
our abundant, if sometimes bitter, drink with joy!" You'll just have to listen.

Helene Blum - Linden Sol
Helene Blum, the Danish singer and fiddler is joined by the Harald Haugaard
Ensemble (octave mandolin, fiddle, guitar, cello, Jew's harp, double bass,
flugelhorn, and percussion) in a follow-up to her marvelous 2008 holiday
recording, En Sød Og Liflig Klang. Liden Sol, (Little Sun) offers both
traditional songs of the Yuletide, as well as a few original songs, all done
with grace and musicianship.

Benedicte Maurseth - Alde
One of the great new artists of the Norwegian folk movement, she plays
hardinfele (Hardangar fiiddle), viola d'amore and sings. Born and educated in
Eidfjord in Hardanger, she now lives in Bergen and works as a freelance
musician. She has made a name for herself as both a great traditionalist as well
as a composer of new songs. This is her first solo recording.

Some limited offers

I have gotten a lot of single CDs from a few sources, and have added them to the
cdRoots catalog. These are mostly one-of-a-kind offerings (I have only one copy)
and some are a little shop-worn (lacking shrinkwrap, maybe a few scratches on
the boxes, etc) but otherwise in excellent condition. Prices run from great
bargains to normal prices on some hard to find and out-of-print CDs.

As they say: while supplies last!

http://www.cdroots.com/cgi/searchcds.cgi?s=oneoff

Also: sale items are always being updated. Check here
http://www.cdroots.com/sale.shtml

There is a little overlap on these lists, but you'll find a lot of great CDs and
some great bargains, as well.

These are not all Nordic titles, but there are plenty to be found as you look
through the lists!

-------------------------------------

Personal clearance of vinyl LPs.
I am going through all of my old LPS from 30 years of collecting that I need to
set free to new listeners. These include LPs from around the world, published
mostly between 1970 and 1990. I do not have time to make lists and post them on
places like Ebay, so I am offering them to adventurous folks who "like to look."
If you are interested in vinyl, and want to come to New Haven, CT some time this
spring to dig through the boxes, I'll be making some great deals on hard to find
vinyl recordings. Drop me an e-mail to make an appointment in May or June.

Maria Kalaniemi - Vilda rosor (Wild Rose)
The 2010 release by the Finnish free-bass button accordionist delves into
Finnish-Swedish folk roots, accompanied by a wonderful ensemble including Pekka
Lehti, Arto Järvelä, Eero Grundström, Olli Varis and many other great Finnish
musicians.

Habbadam - Still Young
The Danish trio of Ditte Fromseier Mortensen (fiddle), Hanna Wiskari
(saxophones) and Sigurd Hockings (guitar) maybe be thirty-somethings now, but
they are as fresh as ever in this interpretive folk music recording. True folk
roots and an adventurous spirt assure their youthful verve as they play and sing
their way through 13 wonderful songs.

Trio Mio - Love and Cigars
The 2011 release by this now well-established ensemble solidifies their standing
as one of the true 'new routes' travelers of Denmark. Kristine Heebøll (violin
and vocals), Nikolaj Busk (piano, accordion, harmonium) and Jens Ulvsand
(bouzouki, guitar, vocals) have put together another strong set of contemporary
roots recordings, both elegant and gritty.

Karen Mose - Vingefang
Mose (a member of the Danish roots-rock band Phonix) offers both new and
traditional songs on this fine contemporary folk recrding. Chris Nickson writes
in his DanskMusic blog, "there's ample imagination going on here and some
absolutely stellar performances, not least from Mose herself… Mose's voice [is]
a superbly sensitive instrument... [songs that] have a lush, floating quality."
For me, I find it genre bending at its best.

Jensen and Bugge - Hav og Land
Subtitled '10 år med dansk traditionel musik.' Mette Kathrine Jensen (accordion)
and Kristian Bugge (violin) celebtrate their 10th year as a duo, joined by
Morten Alfred Høirup on guitar and vocals, Bjarke Kolerus on clarinet and Thomas
Hedegaard on bass. Exhuberant might be the best word for it all.

Fiolministeriet - Fiolministeriet
This Danish 'ministry of fiddles' has a strong, vibrant sound. Cello, violins
and viola offer a classical structure, but the tunes are traditional and
trad/arr, and full of life and energy. Ditte Fromseier, Kirstine Elise Pedersen
and Kirstine Sand play pieces that range from simple elegance to thundering
passion, echoing modern energies one moment and and baroque elegance the next.
Listen!

Frigg - Grannen
The fifth recording from the fiddle-centric octet based in Kaustinen, Finland.
More suprises, more brilliant music, and all the energy and musicianship we have
come to expect.

Kardemimmit - Kaisla
Produced by Antti Järvelä (Frigg JPP), this young band focuses on the kantele
but with interesting new compositions inspired by Finnish folk traditions.
Highly recommended.

Text and info in Danish and
English

Tromsø Kunstforsyning - Tur
Experimental new music from Tromso, Norway performed on cello, trombone,
electronics, voice, piano and percussion.

Sale Items (updated multiple times each week)
Danish, Italian and Faroe Island titles top the list of new additions to the
sale this month.
http://www.cdroots.com/sale.shtml

---------------------------------------

New titles and restocks:

Habadekuk - Hopsadaddy
The idea of fusing a brass section to a folk group is hardly a new one - think
New Orleans street bands, Balkan brass, Hazmat Modine's NY harmonica and tuba
blues, Sweden's Filarfolket or British folk-brassers Bellowhead. But this is as
fine an example as any of them, the Danish roots flowing naturally into not only
a traditional dance band sound, but also into rock and jazz and R&B. Modern
dance music from ancient roots? Their motto is "We blow you away." Indeed.
Highly Recommended!

Impuls Trio - Bugge, Vinther and Bæk
Although all three are well established in other groups and as soloists, this is
the first recording by the Danish trio of Kristian Bugge (violin), Jesper
Vinther (accordion) and John Bæk (guitar, mandolin and vocals). They present a
mix of tunes from old manuscripts, popular Danish folk dances and some original
compositions. Listen

Dwight Lamb, Jensen and Bugge - Live in Denmark 2010
American one-row accordionist Lamb and Danish duo Mette Kathrine (five-rowed
accordion) and Kristian Bugge (fiddle) present more than 100 years of their
musical and family history - from Vendsyssel DK to the Northern USA and back
again. They are joined on some tracks by Vagn Dahl Hansen (piano) and Karl
Skaarup (five-rowed accordion) in a wonderful set of live tunes from the
tradition.

Tindra and Kroke - Live in Førde
The Norwegian folk-root trio meets the driving Polish band in a live concert.
Not as improbable a paring as it might seem, they mesh and clash with energy and
grace. Recorded in 2010 in Norway.
