The fanzine will also include a limited
edition
videocassette. Contributions for this component of
the
project could be a film made to or about a New
Order
or Joy Division song, a short film or part of
a
film inspired by New Order or Joy
Division,
documentary pieces that relate to the time period or
any
other piece of art which might be best expressed
on
videocassette format. Film pieces must be
submitted in VHS
format and be the best quality
possible.
The
title of the fanzine will be “Twenty Years
Too
Late”, acknowledging the fact that we have come
to
fandom late and the point where we are beginning
to
fully appreciate these bands is twenty years after
Joy
Division ended and New Order began. With the release
of
New Order’s new album, Get Ready, the
opportunity
to create current discourse and community around
these
bands is great. Also, this zine
acknowledges
nostalgia while looking ahead. We ourselves have
no
memory of the 1980’s that relates to New Order and
Joy
Division. To us the 1980’s was My Little Pony
and
Madonna and we can only speculate about the
influence
these bands had then. However, the chance to be
moved
by the music and presence of these bands is
incredibly
real. This fanzine hopes to provide a place
for
artistically minded people to share ideas within a
certain
framework in order to motivate each other to
keep
creating the art we do and loving the music we
enjoy.
As the current political and social
climate
becomes bleaker we believe we need forums like this
to
keep us going and remind us why art in the face
of
oblivion is essential.
Twenty Years Too Late will
have an approximate print
run of 500 which will be
sold by zine distributors in
the US and
Internationally and sold at zine, music and
comic stores in
the US. It will be hand bound with a
letterpress
printed cover. It will be printed on a
photocopier or
by offset print, depending on costs.
The video
will have a limited run of 200. This
project will
be exclusively not for profit and will
be
advertising free, though contributors are welcome
to
include their contact information and their
current
artistic projects. A copy of the zine and the
video
will be given to each contributor. Deadline
for
contributors for both the fanzine and the video is May
1,
2002. The zine is due out in July of 2002.
Please
