Ahhh,
I love the smell of fried spammers in the morning!
His little efforts have reminded me to post some Swansea Info to the
group...
Halloween on friday sees Face Off Expand into the downstairs room of
Escape, with classic rock DJs and live bands!
It will still be £3 to get in and you can circulate between all 3
rooms with out fear of paying any more or having to listen to
hardhouse DJs :)
It is hoped to make live music in the downstairs room a regular
occurrence
Jules

AMNINA LAWAL SET TO BE STONED ON 3RD JUNE
The Nigerian Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence for Amina
Lawal, condemned for the crime of adultery on August 19th 2002, to be
buried up to her neck and stoned to death. Her death was postponed so
that she could continue to nurse her baby. Execution is now set for June
3rd.
If you haven't been following this case, you might like to know that
Amina's baby is regarded as the 'evidence' of her adultery. The father
denied everything when he realised the trouble he was in. To find out
more about sharia law, see
http://www.guardian.co.uk/theissues/article/0,6512,777972,00.html
Amina's case is being handled by the Spanish branch of Amnesty
International, which is attempting to put together enough signatures to
make the Nigerian government rescind the death sentence. A similar
campaign saved another Nigerian woman, Safiya, condemned in similar
circumstances.
By March 4th the petition had amassed over 2,600,000 signatures.
It will only take you a few seconds to sign Amnesty's online petition.
Go to the web page http://www.amnistiaporsafiya.org/
Enter your first name in the space marked "nombre", last name

Just a thought.. Would you like me to make a discussion forum on
Offitsface.com for 'Nights Out In Swansea'?
The vBulletin forum we use is pretty good, allows members to have
profiles, photos, etc. and also allows private messaging between
users. Theres no spam and no mass of advertising all over the place.
Check out the current forums if you like:

23rd September the Wildhearts are playing a pre-tour gig and making a
recording for their new video at the Sol Bar, Llanelli. No pre-
booking, pay on the door, capacity 1000. Doors open 7:30pm.
Bloody typical that I've just brought the date of my holiday in Spain
forward to the 23rd.

Next Wednesday (28th Aug), US rockers, Shelter, are playing their
only Welsh date on their UK tour at the Sol Bar, Llanelli, and the
good people of P2 promotions have declared it free entry just so more
people can see the set up before the really big bands start playing
there. They will be ably supported by Welsh bands, ParraffinAlien,
Lazy Eye and Fixated Fur.
Bands lined up to play later in the year Reef, Stiff Little Fingers
and Fishbone.
The set up at the Sol bar will impress. Huge Marshall stacks, walls
of amps, lighting rigs-a-plenty, a big stage, expensive looking
monitors and a mixing desk that wouldn't have looked out of place in
star trek.

A very impressive battle of the bands at the Sol Bar,
Llanelli last night. It was set up by P2 promotions and they had a
great set up. Huge Marshall stacks, a wall of amps, lighting rigs-a-
plenty, a stage that took up half of the sol dancefloor (unlike last
year, move some tables about until you've got room for the drums),
really expensive looking monitors and a mixing desk that wouldn't
have looked out of place in star trek. They're trying to set the
venue up as a TJ's for West Wales.
Every one of the three bands in the battle of the bands was superb
and the headlining band were, without doubt, the best band to have
played in Llanelli and that includes Eddie and the Hot Rods. Can't
remember any of the bands' names though. Just a shame that a Jack
band won this heat.
Free to get in for the next couple of weeks, then they're putting the
price up to £2.
Not only that but Fishbone will be playing there. Fishbone is shit
hot.
The competition will be running every wednesday until 4th Sept. where
The Kennedy Soundtrack are the headlining band.
Please note re-scheduled date existing tickets are valid

The Next Free Comedy Gig At The Psychotic Beaver Comedy Club (The Cafe
Mambo, 46 The Kingsway) will be on Wednesday July 10 at 8pm:
Headlining Act: Andy Hulcoop
Within 6 months of starting comedy Andy had qualified for the finals
of a major competition held at the Comedy Store in London. Since then
he has gone on to appear on BBC1 and was a finalist in the BBC New
Comedy Awards, one of 8 finalists from over 740 entrees.
REVIEWS:
"Andy's performance was a jewel, the strength of his material
supporting his tough
persona".
"The judges could have had a laughometer as Andy stole the show".
Support: Eric Page
Is the only welsh queer comic working the circuit at the moment.
Eric runs his own comedy club ( the freakshow comedy club) running
three years best lesbo and gay stand up. He began comedy three years
ago after nursing ( oncology) for ten years, semi-finals of BBC 2000,
Finals of 'so you think you're funny '( Edinburgh 2001), Komedia New
act of the year 2000, gigging all round country ( and in Spain and
canaries), have done a few TV shows, Take the Mike ( ITV 2001),
Stand-up Britain ( 2002), UK Today (2001), and writes for various
radio shows, theatre shows ( including NewsReveue), and also writes
various columns. Eric has his own impro comedy troupe called The
Dykwits which is receiving very good revues across the south east.
WHAT ERIC SAYS:
My comedy is about me, what it is to be queer and a bloke, originally
from the welsh valleys and now living in the sun-drenched Gomorrah of
Brighton I turn my self inside out exploring sexuality and sex, giving
away male secrets and gay secrets willy-nilly. I like to challenge my
audience in a reassuring way and am shockingly comforting, I have no
regrets, which is a shame. I'm blunt and savage but always charming,
knifing stero-types and leaving them ashes. Talking about my communist
upbringing and then coming
out as a queen. As un-PC as it can get, but always on the side of
right. A proper po-mo-ho-mo ( Post modern fag). As happy discussing
harpsichords concerto's or nipple clamps, an all round family
entertainer. Also working for the local council and the THT as a
sexual health outreach worker, where I spend my time chatting to
hookers and queers about syphilis and various other nasty things.
Compere: Stuart Lloyd
There will also be a "New Act" section featuring four up and coming
comedians from the Swansea area
Too all Those who new Alisa,

PRESS RELEASE
SWANSEA GIG OF THE YEAR
PSYCHOS UNPLUGGED at The Monkey CASTLE STREET SWANSEA
Thursday MARCH 21
Presents
CARINA ROUND
PLUS
CHRISTOPHER REES
And
AMY WADGE
In a world in which we judge new artistic figures by their similarity
to a particular genre, sound or person, it's refreshing to report that
Carina Round defies all such attempts to impose such an arbitary and
unfair practice. Were you to try to pigeon hole this Wolverhampton
born songwriter and performer, then you'd be forced to invent a
category that would reflect the indie jazz punk fusion that is
Carina's essence. Recalling the great Joni Mitchell era of Court and
Spark and the epoch defining Horses by Patti Smith, Carina Round's
debut album First Blood Mystery is a visceral and uncompromising
listening experience. Excoriating songs, about her former lovers and
absent dad, are delivered with what The Sunday Times called " A voice
like a Jimi Hendrix guitar solo". Others, like Flux magazine, referred
to her " show stopping vocal magnetism", adding that Carina is a fully
formed rock goddess." With such critical approbation came the high
profile support gigs, so that 2001 saw Carina opening for the likes of
Mark Eitzel, David Gray, Elbow, Coldplay, Turin Brakes, and the mighty
Ryan Adams, with whom she has since penned a song.
Carina Round is without doubt the foremost female artist of her
generation, and it is an incredible opportunity for the music loving
folk of west Wales, otherwise so starved of such original fayre, to
witness a performer whose star is most definitely on the rise. Carina
will be playing with her full band, for what promises to be Swansea's
gig of the year.
Support for the night will be the two best songwriters in Wales.
Christopher Rees has recently supported John Cale at St David's Hall,
Cardiff. He is highly regarded and the flavour of shadow and light in
his music is wonderfully counter pointed by his strident live
performance. A consummate professional and striking talent.
Amy Wadge is just as notable. If we in Wales bothered to honour our
musical heroes and heroines with awards, then Amy would be most
people's choice of " Best Female Songwriter". Signed to FFVinyl, Amy
will be performing material from her eagerly anticipated debut album.
Tickets will be available for this gig, so if you want to reserve
yours call (01639) 767587 and leave your name, number of tickets
required and contact number. Tickets are £4.
