FREECUENCIA FEST - 1st Annual Latino Experimental Film & Video Fest

Freecuencia Fest proudly presents the First Annual Latino
Experimental Film and Video Festival. For the first time ever, the
city of Los Angeles, with the support the art and business
communities, will host a showcase of such nature.

Freecuencia Fest is a non-competitive festival that presents past and
contemporary "experimental" cinema and video by artists of Latin
American origin who may share a cultural, linguistic, ethnic or any
other variation of a post-colonial or neo-liberal outcome. Those
artists may reside in Latin America, the US, or any other part of the
world as a result of migration, exile, or diaspora.

Freecuencia Fest presents a new wave of "Latin American Experimental
Cinema" in a wide range of categories, including documentaries, self-
reflective essays, political, animation, dance video, and other mixed
media. The festival will feature daily programs of short and feature
films and videos from Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia,
Cuba, El Salvador, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Canada and the USA.
Works from renowned artists such as Ximena Cuevas, Carlos Nader,
Naomi Uman, Alex Rivera, Lotty Rosenfeld, Silvana Afram, Ana Coyne
Alonso, Jose Sanchez H., Kinga Araya, Gloria Camiruaga, and Javier
Olivera are few examples of the diversity and originality of the
festival. One of the highlights of the festival is a special
screening of La Formula Secreta by Rubén Gámez, a pioneer in the
Latin American Experimental Cinema.

In addition to the film and video screenings, Freecuencia Fest will
hold panel discussions on Saturday June 22nd and Sunday June 23rd.
Rita Gonzalez, co-author of the book Mexperimental, will host and
moderate the panels. A kick-off party on June 18 at the Key Club in
West Hollywood will host musical performances by Niño Astronauta,
Plankton Man, and other special guests.

The Festival runs June 21-23, 2002 at the Laemmle's Music Hall
Theatre in Beverly Hills, CA.

Freecuencia Fest is a non-profit coalition of Latin American
filmmakers and other media artists dedicated to promoting non-
mainstream film and video art.
