Hi,
I'd like to eventually begin a 16-voice a cappella vocal ensemble which would
perform everything from Medieval and Renaissance music up through contemporary
classical, jazz charts, be-bop, pop, etc.
Wondering, where do you all discover the music which builds your repertoire?
Some of the rep that other groups sing seems so far removed from accessibility,
that I wonder how it gets "happened upon." I'm thinking of Anonymous 4 and
others.
Do you mainly discover rep through attending ACDA conventions? Are there other
conventions for a cappella groups I should be aware of?
Do you find much of it on the Web by listening to audio files, viewing
YouTube, is there a sample-sending service you've signed up for which sends
samples of a cappella music? Do you get most of your ideas through attending
concerts, or buying CDs?
I was a piano major in college (did extra study in conducting and vocal
training), so I don't know the rep as I should for leading such a group. Just
wondering how you all seem to discover the innovative repertoire you perform.
I think this is going to be several years out for me, financially, so I have
time to explore repertoire.
Thanks so much for any thoughts!
Yours for music,
Cherwyn
