Nationally-known pop-funk vocal band All About Buford seeks a few
powerful singers. We need pro-level singers with stage presence and
power, male or female. Someone with a strong solo voice who can
groove. We are open to permanent fill-in and permanent members. All
performances are PAID.

Great ear required. Songwriting and arranging skills a plus; ability
to play other instruments also welcomed. Must be able to flawlessly
sing blended but creative backup parts. The music is pop-oriented,
with a little of whatever else moves us, so you must have a pop voice
and sensibility, and a hip look - we aspire to present a good visual
onstage as well as good music! Must be able to make a commitment to -
and have the energy and flexibility for - some touring, and consistent
gigging. Competent mic/technical technique and comfortable performance
skills (movement, ability to banter and joke) required.

We perform at listening rooms, festivals and concert halls of
prestige. We have strong relationships with many high-end venues, with
new performances being booked all the time. Booking is done both
internally and externally.

We are based in Boston and NYC, so disparate locations are ok, but
each member must have a high level of musicality and be able to learn
their parts SOLIDLY before we get together, as rehearsals will be
expedited.

Please contact via e-mail (del@...) with sound clips,
photo and bio/resume. Auditions will be held on a rolling basis until
we find our final member/s. We look forward to hearing from you!

This is regarding a new meetup group called Parent Bebop and Play. The idea is for the parents to form a capella/singing group and practice while their young children play. The parents are mostly amateurs who enjoy singing and want their kids to be around music. We are looking for members as well as someone to guide the group and teach the basics. Please contact me as soon as possible if interested.

Ten and Change, one of NYC's most established all-male a cappella groups, is holding AUDITIONS beginning Tuesday, March 24, from 8-10pm in midtown NYC.

Established in 2000, Ten and Change now has 14-16 current members and over 25 alum.  We sing contemporary college fare (Soul to Squeeze, In the End, Ants Marching, Signed Sealed Delivered, etc.) and gig 4-6 times a year (bar/pubs, private parties, anything from small venues to Shea Stadium singing the National Anthem for 35,000).  We're looking for talent and musical ability, but are relaxed in attitude and don't take ourselves too seriously (rehearsals include lots of laughter and often beer).  We rehearse Tuesdays 8-10pm (midtown Manhattan) and require a commitment to that time slot.

Current members range in occupation (lawyers, waiters, music industry guys, finance, whatever) and age (23-43, most in 20s/early 30s) and live all over the city, but all enjoy the mix of people and close-harmony singing.  More info about the group can be found at:
www.tenandchange.com.

Interested?  All that's needed is prior singing experience (all members sang in college) and a commitment to the weekly rehearsal slot.  AUDITIONS begin Tues Mar 24 from 8-10pm.  Contact our biz manager, Brad Richter, by email (
bradrichter@...) for more information.

I have been singing with the "The Lower East Side Community Choir" for the past
few weeks.
This is an non-auditioned a cappella vocal experiment in immediate performance.
There are no hymn books, no sheet music.  All the songs are either call and
response, or have phrases short enough to memorize.  If you love a cappella
music and want to be able to join a "drop-in" gathering of like minded people,
then this is for you!
We do not perform anywhere at present, but gather for the pleasure of singing
together.  Options for public performance may open in the future.
The Lower East Side Community Choir is a non-auditioned "choir" that believes
that everyone can sing and that singing together in harmony with others is
essential for personal and community health and vitality.

Our repertoire is eclectic. We sing three and four part harmony songs, songs of
spirit, freedom and celebration from around the world, taught in the oral
tradition. Come and join us!

This Saturday 3/28, there is an a capllea singing workshop in conjuction with the Barefoot Boogie dance gathering.

Ben Silver's Improvisational Music and Movement Class - at the Boogie Sat. Mar. 28th

In this class, we will be creating our own pieces of vocal music using layers of improvised a capella parts (ostinatos) as well as free improvisation. The music we create will also be the soundtrack for our dance together. Initially, we will take turns accompanying each other's dances with part of the group providing the music for others to dance to, focusing on the interplay between the music and the dance. We will then move into both roles simultaneously, letting our own movements inspire our sounds and vice versa.

After the class, Ben will continue as DJ, playing an eclectic mix of World Rhythms, Funk and R&B interspersed with Live Music.

Ben Silver has been teaching various forms of Vocal Improvisation and Group Singing for over two decades. In 2005, he took a five-day master class in Circlesinging with Bobby McFerrin. So nice they're playing it twice! Here's a review from The Bobs' Holiday Show in NYC: "You'll figuratively lie on your back just
like a trusting puppy and let the four of them musically scratch your belly with dizzy ditty after dizzy ditty. You'll probably also go all gaga between songs,
when they can barely stop swapping patter lines that may be on-the-spot ad-libs or possibly one-time
ad-libs that by now are scripted to seem tossed off in the giddy moment... their harmonies are subtle, practiced, and impossible to take issue with... just as
strong and pure soloing as they are in tandem."

Just wanted to let everyone know that 6 local NYC a cappella groups (and one
group from California) are featured in Time Out NY today! I'm proud to say my
group, Treble, was one of the groups. It's so great to see a cappella slowly
creeping its way into more blogs, magazines, tv shows and more.

Article includes Treble, Kelso, The Red States, Unsung Heroes, SixPlay and
Conspiracy of Beards.
