We are a well established, highly accomplished 4 person (SATB) vocal group
seeking musical leadership--specifically, a trained musician who has a passion
for harmony, a sensitive ear, strong teaching instincts and well-honed people
skills. Anything else you bring to the table is a plus but not a requirement
i.e. piano, arranging, singing, etc. This is a 14 year old musical family and we
are looking to incorporate a 5th member so, besides the obvious skill level,
chemistry is paramount. For the right person, this could be a gold mine—perhaps
not financially (although we can make good gig money) but most certainly on a
creative level. We are eager to pursue new musical challenges to share with our
audiences. Rehearsals are twice a week when possible. Fame and fortune are not
part of the picture. Although not adverse to either, we've been around long
enough to know better. If this sounds like you, we'd love to know about it ASAP.

Do you sit in a cubicle daydreaming about college a cappella days?
Do you have an unnatural obsession with karaoke?
Does your entire building know about the "Shower Singer" in 12B?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions and graduated from a Seven Sisters College, it may be time to audition for The MetropoliTones.  We are looking for new talent!

The MetropoliTones is an all-female New York City based a cappella group composed of alumnae from the Seven Sisters Colleges. Rehearsals are once a week for two hours in NYC. Performances are typically in the NYC area and have included concerts at The New York Athletic Club, The Metropolitan Room, Mohonk Mountain House, Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum, WVOX radio show as well as "The National Anthem" at Giants Stadium and Madison Square Garden. We recently recorded our third CD, "Time For a Breakdown," in Woodstock, NY.

Auditions will be held in NYC on Saturday, September 11th, 2010.  If interested in auditioning, please email director@... or visit us online at http://www.metropolitones.com/auditions.htm . Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you!

PLAYBILL:

In Transit, the new show currently offered by Off-Broadway's Primary Stages,
will not have to try too hard to stand out among the dozens of stage offerings
this fall in New York. It is the only a cappella musical in town. In fact, it's
the only a cappella musical in long memory.

"The only one I know of is Avenue X," says director Joe Calarco, referring to
the John Jiler and Ray Leslee musical about race relations in 1963 Gravesend,
Brooklyn that played Off-Broadway in 1994. But, Calarco points out, "Avenue X is
strictly a doo-wop a cappella musical. This show is every musical style."

How do you end up with an a cappella musical? Well, it helps to start with an a
cappella group. In Transit was written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez, James-Allen
Ford, Russell M. Kaplan and Sara Wordsworth. All four were members of a singing
group in college (along with two other people who have since moved on).

Along the way, to provide themselves with fresh material, they started to write
new songs. Eventually, they added stories to them. This was a slow process.
Thus, In Transit had been around in one form or another for some years before
the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center called Calarco in 2008 and asked if he'd like
to direct a reading.

As the title somewhat indicates, the show takes place on a New York subway. But
the people on the train don't stay there. "There are moments when we go to where
people work, and this one character goes home," explains Calarco, who is best
known as the adapter and director of the unorthodox Bard adaptation
Shakespeare's R&J. "We go a lot of places with them, literally and in their
head." Among the riders are an aspiring actress, a fledgling financier, a
street-savvy beatboxer and a cab driver. In keeping with the nature of the show,
the characters are identified in the program not just by their names, but also
their vocal ranges, i.e., "Alto/Regina."

PLAYBILL:

Perfect Harmony, the comedy with music about competing high school a cappella
groups, returns Off-Broadway Oct. 8 at 45 Bleecker.

Originally seen at the 2006 New York International Fringe Festival and a
subsequent Off-Broadway run on Theatre Row in 2008, Perfect Harmony arrives
Off-Broadway in its latest incarnation after a run a the Stoneham Theatre in
Massachusetts. Andrew Grosso and The Essentials co-wrote the play, which will
open Oct. 17 and is booking through Dec. 31. Grosso also serves as director.

The cast features Kelly McCreary (Passing Strange), Kate Morgan Chadwick
(Grease), Faryl Amadeus, Dana Acheson (Dying City), Marie-France Arcilla
(Shout!), Clayton Apgar (Next Fall), David Barlow, Jarid Faubel, Kobi Libii and
Robbie Collier Sublett (Gone Missing).

The production has original music and arrangements by Alec Duffy, scenic design
by Nick Francone, costume design by Becky Lasky and lighting design by Brian
Jones.

Perfect Harmony is described as "a comedy about the greatest a cappella group in
high school singing history, seventeen-time national champions, The Acafellas.
It is also about their classmates and female counterpart, perennial runners up,
The Ladies in Red. Perfect Harmony exposes the cut-throat competition of glee
clubs and the even more cut-throat competition of high school. Through song and
story, these students grapple with the weighty issues of truth, love, what
constitutes appropriate choreography for the National Championships, and
ultimately the true nature of harmony."

The Essentials comprise David Barlow, Jeffrey Binder, Autumn Dornfeld, Santino
Fontana, Scott Janes, Vayu O’Donnell, Maria Elena Ramirez, Jeanine Serralles,
Marina Squerciati, Margie Stokley, Noah Weisberg and Blake Whyte.

Michael Musto, Louis S. Salamone and Joshua P. Weiss produce.

PLAYBILL:

After losing its original Off-Broadway home due to a landlord dispute, Perfect
Harmony, the play about a high school a cappella group on the tenuous road to
"Nationals" competition, will make music at the Acorn Theatre beginning Oct. 21.

Following a pre-New York run at the Stoneham Theatre in Massachusetts, Perfect
Harmony began Off-Broadway previews Oct. 8 in anticipation of an Oct. 17 opening
at 45 Bleecker.

On Oct. 13 Perfect Harmony found itself without a home when the landlord
suddenly closed the venue in a dispute with the theatre owner. The play was one
of several which left producers scrambling to find alternate venues. One 45
Bleecker tenant, The Deep Throat Sex Scandal, shuttered due to the lock-out.

Perfect Harmony will now resume previews Oct. 21 and officially open Oct. 27 at
the Acorn Theatre on Theatre Row with its original cast and creative team.
Andrew Grosso and The Essentials co-wrote the play. Grosso also directs

In the middle of November, (Monday, November 15, 2010) my colleague and I are putting together an exciting, fresh Broadway-themed talk show series in Manhattan. A portion of the money raised that night will go towards a few notable charities. We are looking for any musicians willing to help out accompanying our performers. Also we are looking for a few more performers to sing,  and be interviewed.

At this time, there is no pay.

This event will have great press and a few notable Broadway names. The purpose is to bring awareness to the different charitable organizations and to show that theatre is unlike any other experience.

We are looking especially for piano players (bonus if you have a keyboard), guitar (acoustic and electric) but we also need other musicians on different instruments as well.

For singers, all different types of genres but especially older classics.

Please contact me for more information.

Thank you.
