Hi all.  I've already posted to this newsgroup regarding the forming of a
summer group on Long Island similar to groups like the Hyannis Sound and
Vineyard Sound.  I've gotten a decent amount of replies and we will soon be
setting up auditions, but we are looking to find some more interested people
so here's the post again:

I am looking to start a small co-ed group with some friends (alumni from the
University at Buffalo Royal Pitches and the Binghamton Crosbies) to gig over
the summer in Long Island to allow us a cappella singers to keep having that
a cappella experience while we're home for the summer from college (or grad
school like me).  I've already received some responses from people
interested in joining who have contemporary a cappella experience and really
want to get a group going.  I'd like to see if there are any other people
interested in this
project.  If you are interested, drop me a line at dlg3@...

Hope to hear from you.

We have as part of this yahoo group... a chat room. I've been
disappointed by the fact that whenever, I log into it, no one is
there. I'd like to propose that if we could come up with a time when
several of us who are interested could get together in the NY-
Acappella chat room to talk about stuff, we should.

What do you think?

I'd love to see if there are other not-existing-group-affiliated, not-professionally-trained (but slammin') people who just want to jam once in a while or even on a regular basis ... seems like all I see on this list is notice of concerts etc.

That's cool too, but I want to sing - first tenor, second tenor or baritone - whatever's missing, I plug the hole.

:-)

This Monday, April 16th, from 7 until 9 p.m., I will be presenting a
FREE introduction to the Feldenkrais Method in the community room of
Castle Village. The address is 110 Cabrini Boulevard in Manhattan,
just north of 181st Street. The introduction will include several
short lessons on the floor (bring a mat!) to give you a sense of the
variety of movement used in the Awareness Through Movement lessons. I
will also be demonstrating Functional Integration, the one-on-one
form of the work.

The Feldenkrais Method is especially effective for singers and other
performers, in that it can help you to learn to organize yourself in
a freer, more spontaneous way.

Further information about my Feldenkrais practice is available at
http://www.mp3.com/JohnLinkFeldenkrais.

I hope to see you tomorrow night!

So you have been suspicions about these folk called
barbershop singers. Do they ever sing anything that
wasn't written ages ago? Do they really know how to
do a cappella singing? Can anybody under forty sing
barbershop? Why do they only have four parts?

Well, in less than two weeks, those in the NY area will
have a unique opportunity to understand that it is no
longer your grandfathers barbershop. The combined
championship choruses of The Ramapo, NJ Spotlight Chorus
and the Westchester, NY Chordsmen are putting on a show
that covers as full range of material, some old and some
very new including a fantastic performance from the Lion
King Broadway show, and an eight part version of the Les
Mis show stopper -- "Do You Hear the People Sing".

In addition, a young quartet from Tennessee, Four Voices,
right out of college, will knock your socks off. Yes, we
will have some material that is just a little older,
including two other eight-part performances of
"Lida Rose / Dream of Me" from the Music Man Show and
"I Hear Music". There will be lots of other songs
including: "Climb Every Mountain" from Sound of Music;
"Sing, Sing, Sing" -- the definitive marriage of jazz
and the big band age; "The Birth of the Blues";
"I'm Beginning to See the Light"; "Zing Went the
Strings of My Heart"; and a special DooWap medley.

GRAVY, a New York City-based all-male a cappella group, is looking
for a few new members on Tenor I, Tenor II, and Baritone. We formed
a couple of years ago, and have had a couple of members leave the NYC
area recently for job opportunities elsewhere. So we're replenishing
the ranks :-)

We sing everything from James Taylor to Italian a cappella to Sting
to Steely Dan, and are looking to do originals as well.

We're looking for people with good voices who like to sing and to
have fun. Prior a cappella singing experience is a big plus but not
essential if you've got a good ear and are a quick learner.

If you're interested in arranging an audition, please call Eric at

My Music

This month I've added two new features to my music page at mp3.com. First, There is now an audio welcome message from me. Just click on one of the links near the top of the page (under the "HELLO" that changes colors) to hear my message. http://www.mp3.com/JohnLinkVocalQuintet

Second, you can now buy my CD "Live at Saint Peter's" with your Mastercard or Visa through PayPal. Or if you prefer, just click on the following link:

Here is an excerpt from a new testimonial by a recent buyer of "Live at Saint Peter's":

"This is not the usual scat thing.." -Delilah

Here's a short review from the first issue of the eSoundz Reporter:

"The inspired works of the John Link Vocal Quintet captivate an audience from the very first note. The mastery of the combined classical/jazz influence, rendered by guitar and voice, makes its presence felt in their release of Live at Saint Peter's."

If you're already enjoying "Live at Saint Peter's", then please tell your friends about it and how to buy their own copies. If you haven't yet bought your copy, you are in for a treat! Click here to find out more and to hear selections from the CD: http://www.mp3.com/JohnLinkVocalQuintet.

My Feldenkrais Practice

Besides being a musician, I'm also a teacher of the Feldenkrais Method, teaching groups in classes and individuals privately. My clients come to me for help with a variety of issues, including but not limited to the following:

        Repetitive stress injuries
        Difficulty breathing
        Chronic pain
        Headaches
        Backaches
        Posture
        Voice (speech and singing)

Group and private lessons are pleasurable, fun, interesting experiences that lead to improvements in function and comfort. To learn more, visit http://www.mp3.com/JohnLinkFeldenkrais. It is almost certainly the case that you, or someone that is close to you, could benefit greatly from group or individual lessons with me (or with one of my colleagues throughout the world).
