Toolsy is Christophe from Toolbox DIstribution in Paris. He runs
the best underground electronic music distro in Europe, along with
about 6-7 different record labels. He has incredible taste in music
and his record collection must be out of control good. Tonight, he's
playing all 7"s ... expect lots of hard fukt up breaks. Sporangia
is a local electronic musician that is bound to blow up sooner or
later. He really hates genre tags, so i will spare him. Let's
just say that he makes really well produced electronic music that
is deeply psychedelic, funky, and strange. This will be his final
set with a ton of gear as he just bought a new laptop.
Highly recommended!

THURSDAY APRIL 24
Jan Jelinek, Thomas Fehlmann, Velocette, MIMM
Tonic 9p-12mid
107 Norfolk Street
358-7503
http://www.tonicnyc.com
$12 ($10 advance at other music), 21+
Jan Jelinek is perhaps better known as Farben. He also recorded
an amazing album on Source as Gramm. He makes beautiful minimal
dance music ... actually, his music is more suited for home listening
than dancefloor devastation. Thomas Fehlmann has in one way or
another been behind many excellent elctronic music projects, including
The Orb, 3MB, and FFWD. Recently, he has been releasing music under
his own name for Kompakt ... one of my favorite record labels.
Velocette runs (and produces much of the music for) the excellent
Parallel record label and spins downstairs at Subtonic on Saturdays.
MIMM is a new project featuring Marcus and Andy (who also spin
downstairs on Saturdays). Should be an outstanding show.
Wasteland, Smith N Hack
Tonic 12mid-
107 Norfolk Street
358-7503
http://www.tonicnyc.com
$7, 21+
Wasteland is a new collaborative project of DJ Scud and I-Sound. They
recently releases their debut CD on Transparent. It's way mellower
than anything they've done in the past -- a gorgeous blend of slow
burning breaks and noisy textures. Definitely one of my favorite
releases of the past year. This is their debut NYC performance.
As if that isn't enough, you also get Smith N Hack, a collaborative
project of Errorsmith and Soundhack. Errorsmith has a knack for
creating very interesting sounds and textures. Soundhack can turn
anything into funk. Together, they totally kick ass. I've been told
that if you pay to get into the earlier Jelinek/Fehlmann show that
they probably wont be clearing the room afterwards, so you can most
likely stay and see this show without paying again.
Muzzy
Residents: David Todd, Dave Turov
This week: Stewart Walker LIVE, Greg Shiff LIVE
Next week: Prozac
5/8: Adam X, Dan Physics
Thursdays at Luxx 10p-4a
256 Grand Street (Williamsburg)
21+, $5
techno, electro
promising new party featuring many notable folks from the nyc
techno/electro scene.
I really wish Stewart Walker wasn't in town the same night as all the
amazing music at Tonic. Stewart makes brilliant minimal techno. I
like his live sets better than his records ... he creates a groove
that just doesn't stop pummeling you until he's finished playing.

eclectic ecstatic dance music
Last week was fantastic ... thanks to everyone who came out,
especially those of you who danced your asses off. I'm extremely
excited about this week's party. First off, we have Society CLeaners
vs Clone doing an early set. Society CLeaners is moving out of town
next week, and will be off to Berlin soon ... this is your last
chance to catch him in NYC. These guys both play very experimental
breaks. Clone had the whole room going nuts at Elan last weekend.
Next up, we have Soundhack, who has put out some of my favorite
records of all time. You've most likely never heard of him if you're
not a DJ, which is a shame. He's responsible for Soundhack,
Soundstream, MMM, and Smith N Hack 12"s - and possibly other secret
records ... who knows? Incredibly funky fukt up techno/house that
you don't want to miss. Be sure to catch his live set Thursday night
upstairs with Errorsmith. Finally, we have Christophe from Toolbox,
who is also playing at Barreled on Wednesday (scroll up for more
info). Tonight, he's playing hard tekno and elektro and possibly
some breakcore if the crowd seems ready for it.

SUNDAY APRIL 27
Heavy Pedal presents: Cyclecide Bike Rodeo
Madagascar Institute 3p-10p
217 Butler Street, between Nevins and Bond, Brooklyn
(718)222-1416
http://www.cyclecide.com
$5
"From San Francisco, Cyclecide's full-on interactive Bike Rodeo comes
to town. Featuring live bands, stupid acts, glamorous rodeo klowns,
and plenty of balls-out, beer-fueled bicycle mayhem.
Participants can try their luck on wheeled, re-welded monstrosities
like the bike Ferris wheel, bike carousel, dizzy toy, lawn-mower
bike, spanking bike, Chupacabra, Golden Gate bike, and the infamous
Homeland Security Bike.
Idiots within the Cyclecide crew will cheat death (maybe) with
some Tall-Bike Jousting. If that's not enough, as the sun sets
in Brooklyntown and three Doggie Diner heads trucked all the
way from the left coast look on with benevolent gazes, the
Cyclecide crew will perform a 45-minute, circus-and-punk-rock
"show" that proves its motto: 2 DUM 2 DIE.
Cyclecide ringleader and show host Jarico Reese will try his
best not to slur his words and Los Baños, the Bike Rodeo's
official band, will bust out eardrums as bones get broken.
All in the name of the almighty bicycle.
Also featuring Pittsburgh's world famous torch singer Phat Man Dee,
the all-girl, no-talent Brooklyn tarts Bitch Fu, and more local
bluegrass, country, and punk bands and DJs. Plus roaming circus
acts, Anney Fresh's double deckers, free bike-repair clinic for
kids, barbecue, bike cab rides, and cool-ass choppers."
