eclectic ecstatic party sounds
ZEA is a band. They have mucho synth gear, drum
machines, and a guitar. They sing! They are perfect pop with a
sinister edge. A little folk. A little electro. A little something very
different from indie rock and very very good. We love ZEA and are
glad they got invited to CMJ so they could play with us at The
Bunker!
Expect the unexpected! Two boys transforming their wide
variety of influences (such as hiphop, techno, noise and pop)
into their very own style. Starting five years ago with a line-up of
drums, two guitars, bass guitar, sampler and analogue
synthesisers, they now are a two-some, using the same
instruments challenging the traditional pop-patterns. They
re-arrange and mix their influences until the fragments fall into
an exciting new form of song. Energy, surprise, excitement and
some nice moments of tranquillity are fed by playful inspiration.
Zea's new album "Today I forgot to complain" was released in
Europe on April 28 2003, in the UK on May 12 to great reviews.
Their debut cd "Kowtow to an idiot" (2000 Transformed
Dreams) was "CD Of The Week" on Dutch nation-wide
alternative Radio station VPRO. In the "Moordlijst" (Dutch
alternative top 20) the CD went up to number four and stayed in
the Top 20 for 10 weeks.
John Peel played tracks of both albums and the vinyl singles
on BBC Radio 1 and on BBC Worldservice. They played a live
session for Belgian radio station "Studio Brussel" and four live
sessions for Dutch national Radio Station VPRO.
