eclectic ecstatic party sounds
Secret Frequency Crew have been slowly building up a
catalog of well received records, and have yet to release a dud.
We were thrilled when one of the SFC members walked into the
Bunker. These guys have covered a wide range of sound in just
a few releases - their EP on Counterflow is more in the leftfield
instrumental hip-hop / idm sphere, while their newer 12" on
Mass Transit is a devastating electro bass bomb. We hear alot
of Drexciyan influence in the sound and imagery of Secret
Frequency Crew, but they definitely put their own unique spin on
things. With a new album coming out on Schematic this spring,
we think you'll be hearing alot about these guys in the near
future. Tonight, they are playing on 4 turntables with lots of
locked grooves, should be interesting.

eclectic ecstatic party sounds
We met Leon Lamont at Tonic a few months ago when his
band Breakbeat Mechanic on Wordsound played upstairs. He
said he liked The Bunker at subTonic and we found out he has a
number of impressive musical projects... He has worked with
Medeski, Martin and Wood, Joshua Redman, Biz Markie, Cold
Crush Brothers, Vernon Reid, Melvin Gibbs, Scotty Hard,
Chocolate Genius, Dead Prez, Anti-Pop Consortium, Marc Ribot,
DJ Logic, and Graham Haynes. He's also really super nice!
DJ Carpark is Todd, who runs the Carpark label, and has set
up Acute with Dan Selzer and Paw Tracks with the Animal
Collective. Todd always seems to be a few steps ahead of the
pack, and we're interested to hear what he'll spin. He'll be
playing an early set, so you can hang out and listen while you
wait for the upstairs show (featuring two acts from Carpark) to
begin.
Greg Davis's 2001 debut LP Arbor really defined the
genre/term "laptop folk", which has since exploded. Greg toured
the globe with Hrvatski after the release of that record, and is
fresh off of a February Japanese tour with the Animal Collective.
His new record is a psychedelic masterpiece that came out in
February, and has gained him even more acclaim and respect.
No longer content with just sitting behind a laptop, Greg is now
performing live with a full band. Note that he covered both the
Incredible String Band and Brian Wilson on the new record ...
this newest incarnation of Davis's sound is probably not what
you were expecting.
Marumari makes warm, organic electronic music. He really
sets himself apart from the legions of bland idm acts with his
blissed out melodic sci-fi sound. This is music that really defies
description, so perhaps you should go here
