eclectic ecstatic party sounds
Philip Sherburne is one of our favorite music writers in the
world right now. He writes the "Critical Beats" reviews for the
much respected Wire magazine, plus regular feature articles for
XLR8R, Grooves, and just about every US magazine that covers
electronic music. Not only is he a great writer, he's a hell of a DJ.
The last time he played at subTonic (back in the Polar Bear Club
days), the party erupted into one of the best dance parties of the
year down there.
Hi Octane also killed it the last time he was at the Bunker with
a stunning techno set, covering everything from shuffle beats
through pounding tribal techno. This will probably be his last set
in NYC for a long time as he is moving out west soon.
Dave Turov is also making a rare NYC appearance, as he is
living in Berlin now. He plays techno from all over the map, and
we are expecting some rare treats from the infamous German
techno shops.
Spinoza has known Mosurock for a long, long time. They met
10 years ago at WRCT at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh. Now
they're both living in Brooklyn and running record labels. We're
not sure exactly what Doug is gonna play, but he promises
dance music and he most likely has a better record collection
than you do, so we know it'll be good.
Queens is Scott Mou, who works at Other Music, and also
does a project with one of the Animal Collective guys called
Jane.
Drew, one of the members of Captain Sons and Daughters,
played guitar on Coil's infamous "Musick to Listen to in the Dark"
albums ... but they really don't want us to emphasize that (we
have to mention it though, since we put "ex-Coil" on the flyer and
everyone has been asking us about it). CSaD put out a really
beautiful 7" in a limited edition of 100 with a gorgeous hand
stitched cover ... mellow dreamy tripped out guitar and vocals.

of my favorite producers. Richie Hawtin's set at Mutek was very
disappointing, so it'll be interested to see what he does tonight.
