Burningman was incredible and included several all-night DJ sets
between Wolf+Lamb and I that were very well received and went WAY
past sunrise. I just arrived home yesterday, and have a million
things to catch up on before i leave for a gig in Montreal on
Saturday, so unfortunately I don't have time for a proper list
this week. I did want to fill everyone in on Steve Barnes' gig
at the Bunker on Friday, which I've been looking forward to for months.
Also, Negativland is in town for a special 25th anniversary exhibition
that is very worth checking out. Plus a few future events to look
forward to (NYC is heating up again!). I promise to be back next week
with a full list of events.

***THE BUNKER***
Steve Barnes (Trapez, MBF | UK)
Marcos Cabral (Trapez | NYC)
Kate Simko (Detalles, Traum | Santiago/Chicago)
Steve Barnes's first release as Process came out on Fat Cat in
1998. Since then he has released many records under the Process
moniker on Traum, and a few as Steve Barnes and Traum. It was
last year that he made a HUGE splash with the "Cosmic Sandwich"
12" on MBF. This immersive, hypnotic track became an instant
anthem on late night psychedelic minimal techno dancefloors, and
is a defining track of a genre which hasn't really been named yet
(thank god for that). Tonight he plays a live set which is sure
to slay.

Opening for Steve is labelmate Marcos Cabral, who has graced the
Bunker several times in the past. His set of ridonkulous Cologne
style bangers opening for Triple R in March had the whole place
jumping.
Part of the Santiago-based duo Detalles (whose debut LP found a
home on Traum), native Chicagoan Kate Simko has been making waves
as of late with her solo live performances. In 2001 Simko moved
to Santiago, Chile to study composition, where she met her
partner in Detalles, Andres Bucci. The result was the duo's 2003
full-length album "Shapes of Summer" which received critical
acclaim from magazines such as The Wire, XLR8R, and Urb. 2005
has been another busy year for Simko, with her return to WNUR, a
couple new residencies in Chicago, another Detalles LP completed,
a remix of Phillip Glass on the Glasscuts compilation (due out
September 13), and a new project for Chocolate Industries.

NEGATIVLANDLAND: THE ART AND NOISE OF NEGATIVLAND
September 9 - October 22, 2005
OPENING RECEPTION on Friday September 9, 6-9PM
Gigantic ArtSpace [GAS] is proud to present Negativlandland, an
exhibition by the "culture jamming" group Negativland.
In Negativlandland, you'll see a life size robot of Abraham
Lincoln doing his best to educate you, you'll peer into wrecked
cars, get your fingers in the dirt, discover the secrets of
Howland Island, learn how to make your own noises on the Booper,
view many brand new video works, hiccup with rabbits, and much,
much more. Also on view will be an unauthorized special edition
of a U2 vs. Negativland iPod (version 2G), created by Francis
Hwang.
In this noisy exhibition, Negativland suggests a theme park
catapulting us into deconstructed attractions of the gallery as a
multi-media entertainment destination. Negativland's work poses
questions about the nature of perception, media control,
ownership, and propaganda. The exhibition will take place in
conjunction with the group's 25th anniversary and will feature
the collective's recent visual work as well as their trademark
sonic work.
