FRIDAY MARCH 2
Beyond Booking Presents
The Bunker
Resident DJs: Spinoza, Derek Plaslaiko
Guests: MARK VERBOS (Simple Answer | NYC) live pa
NEUROTIC DRUM BAND (John Selway & Ulysses | NYC)
Tonic
107 Norfolk Street
http://www.beyondbooking.com
$5, 21+, 11p-4a
techno, house, electro, eclectic ecstatic party sounds
**WARNING**: we have new licensed security at Tonic and they are very strict
about IDs. even if you are a regular who has been coming every week (we
LOVE you!), even if you look like you're 50, please bring government ID
with you from now on to avoid conflict at the door.
We had a great time at the 3/03 acid party last year (and so did you
apparently, as the place was packed all night and people were sweaty and
begging for more when the lights came on). This year 3/03 doesn't fall
on a friday, but technically it will be 3/03 at midnight, so let's do
this again!
Ever since the 2004 Winter Music Conference, Mark Verbos has been
getting alot of attention for his amazing acid house sets using all the
classic Roland hardware (TR-909, TR-707, TR-808, MC-202, and of course
the TB-303). Verbos is a veteran of the early 90's midwest rave scene,
where he played many Drop Bass parties, so he knows a thing or two about
acid. He never looked back and has been producing great records and
playing at huge parties ever since, building up a formidable
discography. Check out his website for proof of all this and some nice
downloads. Tonight he will help us to celebrate 3/03 with his live acid
house set, which will be EXTRA heavy on the 303. This very impressive
live improvised set has blown the roof off of the Bunker several times,
and we're sure tonight will be no different.
We've also invited the Neurotic Drum Band for a tagteam DJ set. Between
the two of them, Selway and Ulysses probably have every important acid
record, and they know how to put an amazing set together, as they've
proven at subTonic and other venues in NYC many times in the past.
John Selway's bio is mind bogglingly long and impressive, so we'll just
give you a brief synapsis. Selway has been surrounded by music his whole
life, studying violin and piano by age 5. He started working on
electronic music at the ripe age of 12, and released his first record by
19. He co-produced records with Oliver Chesler (the Horrorist), BT, Ali
Shirazinia, and Scott Richmond early in his career. In the mid-90's, he
started the Serotonin record label, putting out tons of dope releases,
including the very first Fischerspooner record. He then went on to work
with Abe Duque and Christian Smith, touring the globe and earning lots
of praise. He is currently very busy with his new label Memory Boy
(retro Italo disco), his Neurotic Drum Band project with Ulysses, the
CSM label with Dave Turov, and many other collaborations and projects
that will see the light of day soon.
Born outside of New York City, Ulysses has been DJing since 1991, when
he made his start on the radio at WTUL, New Orleans. Since then he's
gone on to international stardom as a producer and DJ. He has remixed
artists such as Pop legend Arthur Baker, and local rock gods Le Tigre
and the Scissor Sisters. He's performed in over 30 countries, such as
recent performances in Venezuela, France, and Hong Kong, as well as New
York's acclaimed PS1 Warm-Up Series.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the completely off the hook Matthew
Dear party last Friday. We apologize for the police interruption of our
fun. For the time being, we are moving the Bunker upstairs with a
slightly later start time (11pm). There is a really nice brand new
sound system upstairs and more room for dancing, so this should make a
nice temporary home.
We are sad to announce that do to personal problems, Rob Hall has
cancelled his US tour at the last minute, and will not be joining us
tonight. We hope to bring him back very soon. Our resident DJ Derek
Plaslaiko will be handling the final extended set of the night instead,
which Bunker regulars know is never a bad thing.
Jerry Abstract and Pat Morita join us tonight courtesy of utter.produkt,
a brand new label run by our NYC friend Greg Paulus. Tonight serves as a
label launch party of sorts, and we wish these guys good luck in the new
endeavor.
http://www.utterprodukt.com/
Heavily influenced by the legendary warehouse party scene in Detroit. A
lifelong vinyl addict, Jerry has been known to throw everything from
classic idm and ambient to blistering breakcore and drumnbass into his
eclectic sets. Jerry moved to Seattle in 1999 and quickly became very
involved in the dance music scene there, further honing his skills as a
producer and DJ. Jerry spent the summer of 2004 in Berlin, played at
Tresor, and released some tracks on Shitkatapult. Jerry is now Creative
Director of the yearly Decibel festival in Seattle, which has been
picking up alot of steam each year. Jerry is incredibly psyched to be
opening for Rob Hall and has been putting together a special live set to
be debuted tonight.
http://www.fixelplix.com/
DJ Pat Morita will be one of the first artists on utter.produkt label
and will be kicking the night of with a set of new and classic idm
tracks.
Kendra is known for playing deep minimal tunes that fall into the
catagory of either robot love songs or underwear dance party anthems.
She is also known for raising hell at our parties, dancing on the bar,
humping speakers, doing pushups and handstands, making out, buying
rounds of shots, and otherwise getting the party started properly (see
the Bunker photo galleries for evidence of all of the above). She is a
great DJ who is constantly schooling us on hot new tracks. She's been a
friend and a supporter for a long time, and we're thrilled to get her
back behind the decks at the Bunker for the first time since her
birthday last year (where we broke the damn record for bar sales thanks
in no small part to Kendra and her rowdy posse).

Tonight we launch our new Specral Sound Residency, presenting a
different Spectral artist every two months. We can think of no better
artist to launch this thing with than Matthew Dear aka Audion. What can
we say about Matthew Dear that hasn't already been said? He's been one
of our favorite techno artists for years, and lately he's at the top of
his game. His recent DJ sets have included tons of unreleased original
material that pretty much blows everything else we've been hearing
lately out of the water. His amazing set at 3rd Ward this summer helped
make that the NYC techno party of the year.

You've all heard about the amazing parties that Wolf + Lamb have thrown
with Beyond over the past year and a half in Brooklyn. Now they have
moved on to running their own net label and releasing original studio
productions. There are a ton of net labels out there, but most of them
are releasing experimental material that traditional vinyl labels
wouldn't even consider releasing as a b-side. As DJs who gave up vinyl
in favor of playing mp3's with Ableton Live, Wolf + Lamb found this very
frustrating. They decided to do something about it and launch a net
label that only released tracks that were worthy of dancefloor play.
They took things one step further and decided to make the it an "open
source" label. This means that the tracks are released with the original
source material; either as the self contained Ableton Live layout file,
or as a sample collection for the specific track. This enables Ableton
DJs to really get their hands dirty and tear apart the tracks for a more
personal performance. It also gives producers around the world
everything they need to make their own remixes of the tracks (which can
be submitted to Wolf + Lamb for consideration as official label
releases).
Tonight we present our third Wolf + Lamb label night. We've been using
these nights as an opportunity for the rising talents releasing music on
the Wolf + Lamb Music net label to present their music to a live
audience. Since most of these artists are regular attendees at our
parties, they really understand the sound/vibe of the party and tend to
nail it on their first try. To download tracks from these fine artists,
visit the Wolf + Lamb Music site:

Jason Emsley recently made the jump from DJ to producer, and his first

talents. His first track was released on a Telegraph compilation, which
was followed by two solo EP's on German label Platzhirsch Schallplatten.
He also recently releasedd remixes on Nummer, Clever Music, and Droid
Recordings. 2007 has already started warm with a 3rd solo EP
forthcoming on Platzhirsch in the Spring preceding a month's mini-tour

Bart Skils's career started in 1995 when he moved to Amsterdam and
started working for Outland Records. First playing in Amsterdam's
legendary Mazzo club he became resident with his own weekly Voltt
nights. Known for his smooth mixing and dynamic sets he steadily
developed into one of Amsterdam's finest and most respected DJ's. His
style ranges from rhythmic techno to deep minimal electronics, always
funky and danceable. He is also founder and host of the highly respected
Voltt and Traffic events, both situated in Amsterdam. Traffic is based
at the famous Melkweg venue and focuses more on the true techno sounds
while his Voltt events, based in Dutch poptempel Paradiso, are more
minimal and smooth. On the production level Bart Skils has been active
releasing on Pure Plastic (London) and 100% Pure (Amsterdam). With his
residencies in clubs like Paradiso and Melkweg alongside regular gigs at
all the major dance events and festivals like Awakenings, Lowlands,
Innercity, Pinkpop, Dance Valley, Extrema and 05 Days Off he's built
himself a strong solid reputation for quality music.

Thomas Kamholz (aka Attentat) has been DJing since the ripe age of
seventeen. These days, Thomas finds himself as cofounder of the Denver
based record label Dope Recordings, and as musical director for the
illustrious Communikey crew. Over the years, as a member of Communikey,
Thomas has found himself playing alongside such names as Jan Jelinek,
Bruno Pronsato, Geoff White, Mossa and many others. When not busy
helping run the Dope label, or planning the next Communikey event,
Thomas finds the time to lock himself in the studio striving to become a
scholar of shaking asses. These endeavors have been released on the Dope
Recordings label on beatport.com, which has been steadily growing in
popularity for several years. Residing in Colorado since 1999, Thomas
has established himself as a Rocky Mountain favorite, able to hold it
down amongst the heavy hitters that pass through the state. With a
decade of experience on his plate, Thomas has proven himself a master
chef at moving a crowd and throwing it down. We were completely blown
away when we saw him play in Boulder earlier this year, and cannot wait
to introduce him to NYC.

A native of Flint, Michigan, Ja'Maul Redmond is no stranger to the
Detroit Techno sound. JaMaul is one of the newest additions to the DTM
(Detroit Techno Militia) crew and is an accomplished producer who
demonstrates his studio skills by way of a live performance using
various tone modules from his studio arsenal. He has various 12 and 7
inch releases through Activ-Analog Records and will be releasing a
single on the first Cratesavers/DTM label in Detroit.

Tonight we celebrate four years of the Bunker. That's 208 consecutive
fridays of quality electronic dance music in the basement of Tonic (not
to mention three years of the Polar Bear Club with Timeblind and Mike
Wolf before we started). The party is going off stronger than ever every
week, and we're psyched to celebrate our four year anniversary with DJ
/Rupture and many past Bunker residents in attendance.
You won't find another musician as agile and reckless as DJ /rupture aka
Jace Clayton. He's performed in over 25 countries, released records on
Soul Jazz & Tigerbeat6, DJ'ed in a band with Norah Jones, done two John
Peel Sessions, and was turntable soloist with the 80-member Barcelona
Symphony Orchestra. Rupture sounds like a border-crossing bass
visionary. His dynamic live sets simultaneously partyrock and suggest
complex political undertones. Clayton runs Soot Records, an independent
label with impeccable curation, dedicated to international urban music.
Rupture plays in a band called Nettle - violin, cello, electronics,
banjo, guembri, voice. He also does duo performances with guitarist Andy
Moor (The Ex). Both projects will release albums in 2007.
http://www.negrophonic.com/rupture
Maga Bo is a DJ/producer working with an international collision of
styles, sounds, location recordings from all continents and beats that
have yet to be classified. A study in the digital contortions of hip
hop, ragga, breakbeat and jungle drum'n'bass, his sound is a divine
(s)mashup of batucada, rai, capoeira, bhangra, and skewed electronic
beats in a borderless conundrum of gritty street sounds, found and
modified rhythms and melodies from Brazil, Morocco, Senegal, India and
beyond. DJing and producing tracks with a portable laptop studio, he has
worked and performed in North and South America, Africa, Asia, and
Europe. Maga Bo is a member of Sonar Calibrado with Filastine, who has
made many successful visits to the Bunker. Tonight serves as a release
party for his "Confusion of Tongues" mix CD on DJ /Rupture's Soot
Records.
http://www.magabo.com/
We haven't seen Timeblind since he joined us for a set opening for Rob
Hall in March. NYC was bumming him out, so he moved to Berlin two years
ago, leaving the Bunker in the hands of DJ Spinoza. Now he is back in
the city, just in time to celebrate 4 years of the Bunker with us.
Timeblind has always been a wildly eclectic DJ, spinning dancehall,
jungle, hip-hop, techno, disco, arabic dance music, and lately alot of
grime/dubstep. He is also a prolific recording artist, releasing techno
12"s on Probe, Synewave, Missile and Kanzleramt; boundary/genre-free
electronica on Orthlorng Musork; dancehall on Shockout; and a
dubstep/grime EP on DJ /rupture's Soot label ... all quality output.
Tonight he'll play his first live set in NYC in quite a while.
http://crucial-systems.com/Timeblind
Longime Bunker resident Movement left us to study Plant Biology at UC
Berkley in July 2006. His opening set for Bruno Pronsato at his going
away party tore the goddamn roof off of subTonic and will be remembered
by everyone in attendance for a very long time. He is currently focused
on music production under the Konrad Schierling alias. He has released a
remix on the Wolf + Lamb net label and will be putting out a proper 12"
on Goosehound soon.
kleverVice moved to City Island in the Bronx in early 2006 to enjoy real
community and a view of the ocean, and pursue other non-music projects.
It's been a while since she dropped by the Bunker to tell us great
stories and play amazing music, so we're really looking forward to her
opening set tonight. Longtime Bunker fans know that these sets are very
much worth showing up early for.

techno, house, electro, eclectic ecstatic party sounds
Atomly hails from the great white wilderness of North Dakota and his
Viking-like stature reminds you of his hearty root. Moving from Minot to
Fargo to Minneapolis to Chicago, the 25 year-old producer spent over a
decade soaking up the diverse and rough-edged Midwest party scene. You
can hear it in his amazingly diverse live sets, which move from groovy
minimal techno to seismic drum'n'bass and full throttle breakcore
(tonight he focuses mostly on techno). A dedicated programming geek,
Atomly was one of the first producers to make the move from gear to
laptop performances, composing tracks amidst a matrix of ones and zeros.
But technique has little to do with the powerful sound that comes from
his tiny computer (dwarfed even further by his 6'8" frame). He has
appeared across the US as well as having logged several European tours.
His music and remixes have appeared on his own Atomiq Records as well as
releases from domestic drum and bass label Fear and New York
avant-electronic imprint, Carpark. Lately, he has been hanging out in
Berlin, playing shows, and working on new tracks. It's been exactly one
year since Atomly played at the Bunker, and we're excited to hear what
he's been up to.

Every party we've thrown at this space has been amazing, and i assume
this one will be no different. Someone Else and Miskate are just coming
back from a few months of European touring, so i'm sure they're already
deadly live sets have been significantly fine tuned (check out their
music at foundsoundrecords.com if you're not already familiar). Lee's
live set at the Bunker last week was amazing, but most of you were out
of town, so we're re-doing it for a bigger audience. We suspect this
will sell out, and there will be a premium on tickets at the door, so
please buy advance tix if you plan on coming.

Lee Curtiss has been crafting his sound in dance music since the late
90's with his unique approach to making music. His influences range over
every genre and decade, while always having a deep appreciation for the
strange and experimental. Lee began making music at an early age,
learning to play several instruments into his 20's when he shifted his
focus to electronic music where it has remained since. Currently
residing in Detroit, he has traveled Europe and the States with a ground
breaking live performance and ever evolving sound, constantly paying
close attention to electronic music all over the globe and always
remaining a student to his craft. Lee really blew us away with his super
deep and TRULY minimal set at the Wolf + Lamb vs Tesh Club 24 hour
partyathon in August. He has spent some time in Berlin and touring
around Europe since then, and we're excited to see where his head and
music are at.

several international electronic labels and also worked in the motion
graphics field with MTV, Rockstar Games and The Magnificents. To date
Landstrumm has released five Experimental Electronic albums, one
Art-Rock-Blues-Beat album, several 12" singles and remixes on labels
ranging from Peacefrog, Tresor, Sonic Groove Mosquito, to his own
imprint, Scandinavia. Neil has collaborated with Cristian Vogel, Si
Begg, Mike Fellows, Bill Youngman and Tobias Schmidt. He is native to
Scotland but has recently spent six years living in New York soaking up
Brooklyn and Queens best in lifestyle, culture and music. Essentially a
live artist, Neil has built his reputation on uncompromising live
performances world wide. Bass-tech beats, grime, electro-techno,
broken-beat, Miami bass, beat throw downs or dirty swing style ...
Landstrumm creates his classic stomach pumping bass, metallic and
melodic clangs and odd funky percussive swing lines live and in full
effect. This isn't some laptop-noodle performance. It's live electronics
at it's very best.

Deadbeat is one of the artists on the Beyond Booking roster, and has
made many appearances at the Bunker over the past few years. There is a
reason we keep bringing him back: his constantly evolving live sets are
quite simply some of the most impressive electronic music we've ever
heard. All 3 Deadbeat full lengths on ~scape have been spun many times
in the early evening at the Bunker, and they usually bring the
trainspotters running up to find out what the hell it is. Scott Monteith
(aka Deadbeat) makes impossibly deep digital dub that somehow avoids all
of the dub cliches and puts a fresh spin on the decades-old genre. As
amazing as the albums are, you really have to see the live set to fully
appreciate the sound. He had heads spinning and hips shaking at his last
subTonic gig. His newest album has a subversive poltical edge (something
that is sadly absent in most electronic music), and we deeply respect
that at the Bunker. He also recently dropped a split 12" with Monolake
on Cynosure and a 12" on Echochord that both explore his deadly
dancefloor techno side, which we're guessing you'll get to hear some of
tonight.
http://www.techno.ca/deadbeat
More than 10 years of active participation on the Montreal scene has
converted Steve Beaupré into an uncontestable artist in the world of
Canadian music. Steve has managed to gain recognition lately as a solo
artist with his EP "Dirty Lipreading" on the upstart Montreal label
Musique Risqué, launched by Akufen and Vincent Lemieux. His
particular approach to music manifests itself in decomposed and
syncopated rhythms, which he develops with an incredible spontaneity.
Animated ambiances based upon abstract and organic textures abound in
his productions, where an equal measure of house and techno interplay
with elements of funk, guided by a strong artistic sensitivity. Diverse
vocals and instrumentation, reworked with humor, intermingle with
intense beats, delivering both a relaxed and agitated tone to his
pieces. He recently his first album, the masterful "Foe Destroyer", on
the MUTEK_REC label, which has received much play on the Bunker
dancefloor and gets our vote for one of the best albums of the year.
http://www.musique-risquee.com
Also appearing will be Crackhaus, which is Deadbeat and Steve Beaupré's
collaborative techno project. Their sound will definitely appeal to fans
of micro-house superstars like Akufen and the Perlon crew, but they put
their own very humorous spin on the genre. We haven't heard them perform
since their set at Mini-Mutek 2005, which was incredible and had people
bouncing off the walls.
Rich Korach discovered techno in 1994 and has been a part of the scene
ever since. He is a resident DJ for Paxahau in Detroit, who organized
the DEMF in 2006, and have thrown many amazing events over the past
eight years. He is perhaps best known for holding his own in a tagteam
set with Richie Hawtin and Luciano at a Paxahau afterparty in Detroit on
Labor Day Weekend 2005 (you can hear this any many other sets on the
Paxahau website). New Yorkers will remember him as the guy with the
eyepatch who held it down for hours with Seth Troxler at the equally
legendary Tesh Club vs Wolf + Lamb afterparty at Miss Williamsburg in
August. Tonight he will be joining Derek Plaslaiko for an extended
subTonic set.
http://www.paxahau.com
alka_rex, aka Sascha and Eddie, are the "Digital Russians" of the NYC
minimal techno scene. They released a double album on Mille Plateaux
side label Supralinear last year, a 12" on Musique Risquée in the
spring, and the first Thema EP in July. They have already played at the
Bunker twice this year, and are joining us tonight at the special
request of their Musique Risquée labelmates. The worldwide
response to their latest releases has been incredible, and their live
set just keeps getting better, so expect a packed dancefloor tonight and
a bright future for alka_rex.

techno, house, electro, eclectic ecstatic party sounds
In a genre and movement all too predictable with the same fifty records
playing forever on a continuous loop, Eric Cloutier is quietly making
himself stand out amongst Detroit's next generation of producers and
DJ's. He began on the same circuit of Detroit parties and clubs most
have traveled, eventually establishing residencies at Ann Arbor's Necto
and Detroit's prominent after hours party spot, The Works. He also
performed at both 2004's Movement festival as well as 2006's Detroit
Electronic Music Festival, and has shared the decks with fellow Detroit
DJ's Matthew Dear, Derek Plaslaiko and Ryan Elliott. In 2005, he was
handpicked as a chosen replacement for the next batch of DJ's at
Detroit's monthly "Untitled" parties. Tasteful yet mildly abrasive, his
blend of minimal techno infused with dub sensibilities firmly entrenches
his sound in Detroit's rich past while looking towards the future.

Daniel Bell is one of the most important figures in the history of
minimal techno. He started out by collaborating with Richie Hawtin as
Cybersonik in the early '90s, releasing "Technarchy" and other classic
tracks. Then he produced several records on his own as DBX (including
the enourmously successful "Losing Control") that more or less defined
minimal techno in the early to mid '90s. He then went on to create 7th
City Distribution and several new record labels. In 2000, he moved to
Berlin, and has released two amazing mix CD's and a few remixes since
then. This will be his last NYC appearance for a long time as he is
stepping back from touring for awhile to work on new material and a
brand new live set.
Tonight we present Dan is the environment where he always place best, a
small dark room with big sound and no bullsh*t. He will be playing
alongside NYC superstar Derek Plaslaiko, who considers Dan his mentor
and has been planning his set for this night since I mentioned the gig
to him about 3 months ago.
The advance ticket thing is no joke. We are doing our best to avoid
overcrowding of the space to make this a more enjoyable night for everyone
who comes.

techno, house, electro, eclectic ecstatic party sounds
Born in Uzbekistan and raised 1980's Brooklyn immigrant style, east-west
transitions and ghetto blasters where a way of life for Dave Turov. He
had some success with rock bands in the 1990's, but eventually was
deeply inspired by the scene at Twilo: people like Jeff Mills, Richie
Hawtin, and John Selway opened doors via that sound system from which
there was no return. Consulting for software companies by day, the next
few years were spent DJing techno and electro in NYC by night while
studying the cycles of music, scene, and city. The next step was
producing events under the Muzzy moniker with help from Abe Duque,
Frankie Bones, Adam X, Heather Heart, Traxx, Dinky, Magda, and Stewart
Walker to help hold up techno and electro in NYC. 2003 was the time for
relocation to Berlin Germany where a centralizing electronic music
community, an east-west culture, and several music technology companies
were thriving. With transition came new inspiration from a variety of
sources. Now, with NYC compatriot John Selway, CSM Records was
re-launched in Europe on which original music and remix work flowed. In
conjunction with CSM, the M party series (M-ittwoch + Mamstag) started
in 2005 showcasing talent like Dan Bell, Luciano, Zip, Jay Haze, and
many others lending their sound for M in venues like WMF and Watergate.
Dave is an old friend and we're glad to host him on one of his
increasingly rare visits to his hometown.

techno, house, electro, eclectic ecstatic party sounds
In his DJ performances and track production, Adam X's sound is best
described as hard, EBM and industrial inspired dance-floor techno and
electro. Adam X penetrates, educates and infuses his audience with a
real energy, often drawing from dark and sexual themes, through the
mastery of the electronic music medium he has gained from a prolific
career. From haunting minimal loops and deep, sexy basslines, to the
pounding industrial teknoid beats that have become his trademark, Adam
X's material reaches a deep and subconscious part of the listener, often
evoking an emotional response which is especially visible on the
dance-floor. Tonight, Adam plays a rare live set. His live performance
this summer at PS1 went over really well with the huge crowd, despite
the fact that he played an extremely weird and dark set, instead of
pandering to the crowd.

From 1998 through 2004, Patrik Skoog was very well known for his brand
of hard tribal techno, releasing many huge records on labels like
Synewave, Plant Rhythm, Drumcode, and his own imprint native Diffusion.
In early 2005, he started releasing music as Agaric, exploring the
slower, deeper side of techno, taking cues from early influences like
Robert Hood and Mike Ink. Around this time he started the We Are record
label, releasing seven amazing 10"s with little or no information
included aside from the catalog number. These records got a ton of play
at the Bunker and on dancefloors around the world. Tonight, Patrik
brings his brand new live set to this much anticipated Bunker gig.

techno, house, electro, eclectic ecstatic party sounds
Ezekiel Honig is a drum'n'bass DJ turned melodic micro techno producer.
His sound is subdued and beautiful, filled with "mistakes" and sneaky
little melodies. His debut album on his own Microcosm imprint turned
alot of heads and was very well received by critics and music fans
alike. His new album, Scattered Practices, is even better, and shows how
much his sound has developed over the past two years. Zeke also runs the
Microcosm label, which has been responsible for a ton of great music
over the past few years.
http://www.microcosm-music.com/
Back in November 2005, we celebrated the released of Ben Parris's debut
record (Foundsound 5), and he treated us to a storming DJ set that had
the whole place bouncing. Then he came back with Barem in April for
another great party. Ben has been one of the biggest supporters of
minimal techno on the east coast for a long time. He organized the
Once.Twice Sound festival in Baltimore, bringing in everyone from Akufen
to Dimbiman. After spending a year or so down in North Carolina working
on a fish farm, trying to figure out the meaning of life or something,
Ben produced some amazing tracks that get alot of play at the Bunker and
on dancefloors around the world. He spent the summer partying in Berlin
and touring around Europe, and now he's in Baltimore continuing work on
his PhD. He released a very well received split 10" with NIcholas Sauser
on Microcosm earlier this year.
http://www.foundsoundrecords.com/
Nicholas Sauser aka Sean Smith is one half of the duo Socks and Sandals,
who have rocked the Bunker dancefloor many times. Working in a similar
vein to that project, but definitely exploring newer and more
experimental territory, Nicholas makes weird and fluctuating minimal
techno. With one foot planted firmly in the history of house music, the
other is planted gently in a pulsating future filled with skimmering
sonic oddities. Sauser has been working on tracks and tweaking his sound
all year, the highlight of which was a performance at DEMF in May.
Nicholas is the owner and operator of the Kompakt distributed Goosehound
label, which has made a big splash with the first three releases (we've
already heard everyone from Luciano to Dan Bell rocking this shit).
Goosehound 4 (Sauser & Ditch with an amazing Barem remix) will be out in
November.
http://www.goosehound.com/
Morgan Packard's search for the perfect music for a benevolent future
has led him to study jazz saxophone at Boston's New England
Conservatory, to move to London to immerse himself in British drum and
bass, to study classical composition, and to learn to program his own
software tools. More scholar than fusioneer, he strives to understand
the inner workings of the music he studies, using this deep
understanding to more effectively create something new, rather than
simply appropriating the glittering exotic sounds floating on the
surface of the music he hears. Across all the music he explores, the
qualities of beauty, melody, texture, and hypnotic repetition fascinate
him, and these qualities unite his work across disparate styles. He has
appeared at the Bunker a couple times as a duo with Ezekiel Honig, and
tonight is his first solo Bunker set.

It's always a treat when Philip Sherburne plays at the Bunker. This guy
has exceptionally deep knowledge of electronic music, which he shares
with us through his writing for Pitchfork, Earplug, XLR8R, and many
other places. Very few people write so intelligently about the music we
care about so much. But we wouldn't invite him to the Bunker if he was
merely a good writer. Philip has an insanely good ear, a record
collection to die for, and an intuitive knowledge of how to move the
dancefloor. Check his webpage for links to his writing and music.
http://www.philipsherburne.com/
Qzen has been involved in many aspects of electronic music culture over
the past ten years. She spent many years investing in drum & bass
culture with the female-run production collective Groundscore and their
internationally recognized weekly, Eklektic. In the early '00s, she
expanded her repertoire from her drum & bass roots to a hybrid of
tech-house, electro, and techno, shirking genre to incorporate countless
party-jams-waiting-to-be-played. In 2004 Qzen released a single with her
band The Invisibles (featuring subTonic staffers Alex and Kimi) on DJ
Hell's International Deejay Gigolo label. She collaborated with John
Tejada by lending her vocals to his smash hits "Sweat (On the Walls)"
and "Paranoia". Currently, Qzen works as iTunes's Dance & Electronic
Music Editor (pretty much controlling what electronic music gets
included in the iTunes store) and continues to DJ regularly. With her
passion for deep, technical, versatile music and a talent for moving the
audience, Qzen's DJ sets are not to be missed.

Inspired by the Detroit radio of the eighties and local dj heroes of the
nineties, Mike Servito came of age in the Detroit electronic music
scene, debuting in 1995 and quickly gaining the attention and respect of
his peers. After a brief hiatus from djing and through the vigorous
encouragement of close friends Magda, Jon Ozias, and Sam Valenti,
Servito returned to the DJ realm in 2002, re-defining himself and
finding inspiration in the flourishing next generation of electronic
music producers and DJs. A lifelong music fanatic, Servito is a DJ's DJ.
He is equally adept in any musical setting and fearless in his
transition from one style of music to another. He bridges styles
seamlessly without an afterthought to their classification. It is this
unpredictability and trust in his music knowledge that has garnered
Servito a cult following around Detroit and made him an in-demand DJ
over the years.
Popnoname is the project of 27-year-old Jens-Uwe Beyer from Cologne.
Perhaps most well known for his contributions to Kompakt's Pop Ambient
compilations in 2005 and 2006, he has also released some more driving
material for Cologne labels Italic and Firm. Tonight he plays a live set
in his North American debut performance. He has performed all over
Cologne, including the C/O Pop Festival, and has played at many clubs
around Europe, including the legendary Der Visionaire in Berlin.

Tim Xavier has been involved in the US techno scene for well over a
decade. He's done everything: thrown parties (the famed 773tekno nights
in Chicago), produced records (30 singles under his belt), run labels
(773tekno, LTD400, Clickhaus), DJed around the world, and even run his
own business cutting dubplates and masters. Lately Tim has been making
waves the in minimal scene with his strictly limited edition hand
stenciled LTD-400 releases and his new Klickhaus label, which he runs
with Camea. Also, his new production partnership with Tony Rohr,
Afternoon Coffee Boys, has already knocked out two singles on NYC's
Clink label and one on Sven Vath's Cocoon imprint. Tonight we are
honored to present his world premier live set.

Underl_ne has made quite a splash in the past two years with releases
from some of the biggest names in minimal techno, including original

The best weekend of the year last year came right after Mutek when our
friends from Bruchstuecke in Zurich visited NYC. Galoppierende
Zuversicht played a live set that tore the roof off of the Bunker and
then proceeded to destroy the Wolf + Lamb Marcy Hotel with dj sets that
lasted until past noon on Sunday. Tonight they play live together and
then separately as DJs.
Galoppierende Zuversicht (which means "galloping confidence" in Swiss)
is the live project of Bruchstuecke artists Styro2000 and Bang Goes.
Their live set incorporates self built samplers and hardware instead of
laptops. They recently released their second 12" on Bruchstuecke ...
these guys don't relase much music, it's all about their live show.
Ricardo Villalobos is calling them the best live techno act in the world
right now ... and they pretty much proved it with their unbelievable
sets at Mutek, the Bunker, and Kontrol SF in North America last year.
These guys are making some of the most interesting live techno in the
world don't come around very often.

Clark Warner is an old friend of the Bunker, and possibly one of the
nicest people we've ever met. He used to play at our Undercity parties
at Halcyon on Sunday afternoons after many Saturday night opening /
sideroom gigs with Richie Hawtin in larger venues. Clark has played at
DEMF, Sonar, Mutek, and many other prestigous electronic music events.
When he's not busy with DJing and other creative projects, he runs
Richie Hawtin's M_nus and Plus8 labels, so he's often got a bag full of
rare and unreleased records that would make any DJ drool. Tonight,
expect everything from dubby weirdness during the earlier hours to
dancefloor excitement at the peak.

You've all heard about the amazing parties that Wolf + Lamb have
thrown with Beyond over the past year and a half in Brooklyn. Now
they have moved on to running their own net label and releasing
original studio productions. There are a ton of net labels out
there, but most of them are releasing experimental material that
traditional vinyl labels wouldn't even consider releasing as a
b-side. As DJs who gave up vinyl in favor of playing mp3's with
Ableton Live, Wolf + Lamb found this very frustrating. They
decided to do something about it and launch a net label that only
released tracks that were worthy of dancefloor play. They took
things one step further and decided to make the it an "open
source" label. This means that the tracks are released with the
original source material; either as the self contained Ableton
Live layout file, or as a sample collection for the specific
track. This enables Ableton DJs to really get their hands dirty
and tear apart the tracks for a more personal performance. It
also gives producers around the world everything they need to
make their own remixes of the tracks (which can be submitted to
Wolf + Lamb for consideration as official label releases). Check
out the Wolf + Lamb Music website to see/hear for yourself. All
downloads are 100% free! The last Wolf + Lamb label party we had
in April was packed and somehow turned into a "Bunker Gone Wild"
spring break party, complete with wet tshirt contest. See the
Bunker photo gallery for a glimpse of the madness, edited to
protect Plaslaiko's reputation. With three birthdays to celebrate
and the new drink specials, we can only hope it gets even messier
this time.
http://www.wolflambmusic.com/
alka_rex, aka Sascha and Eddie, are the "Digital Russians" of the
NYC minimal techno scene. They released a double album on Mille
Plateaux side label Supralinear last year, a 12" on Musique
Risque in the spring, and the first Thema EP in July. They just
played their record release party for us in July, but have warned
us to expect at least five (!!!) new tracks tonight. The
worldwide response to their latest release has been incredible,
and their live set just keeps getting better, so expect a packed
dancefloor tonight and a bright future for alka_rex.
blink e palermo is the newest act to release music on the Wolf +
Lamb label. A cryptic allusion to a minimalist painter and a
mafioso boxing promoter, their name is just about the only thing
we know about these guys. Their tracks are probably the most
dancefloor ready releases on the label and they've been bunkered
down in the studio for months in preparation for their world
premier live set.

Glaswegian Alex Smoke has made quite a name for himself and
quickly moved up through the ranks of the techno elite since his
debut release in 2004. At only 25 years old, he's already put
out two albums on Soma and a slew of great mindfuck singles on the
Berlin-based Vakant imprint. Being trained on the cello and
piano, Alex's complex arrangements and production techniques
really set his sound apart from the minimal masses. His music
reflects his broad range of influences, including everything from
grime to classical. Alex wowed many festival and huge club
audiences in Europe with his new live set this summer, and we're
lucky enough to catch him passing through New York on his way
home from the Decibel festival in Seattle.

Swiss born electronic musician Radovan Scasascia, who lives and
works in London and Zürich, trained as an architect at the ETH in
Zürich. He now concentrates fully on electronic music, which he
has been making since 1993. He founded Dreck-Records with his
long-time collaborator Laurent Benner in 2000 and has been
releasing music under the names Secondo and AM/PM. Departing from
existing popular songs of various origins, Secondo cuts his
source material carefully into minute fragments in order to
compose entirely new pieces of music - somehow maintaining the
atmosphere of the original, but shifting away from it
structurally and rhythmically.

reflects his broad range of influences, including everything from
grime to classical.

We've been asking Miskate to play a live set at the Bunker for
years now, and we're thrilled that it's finally going to happen.
Miskate made a huge splash in the minimal techno world in 2004
with her debut single "Rip it Cookie Muenster" (co-produced with
Someone Else), which was played by everyone from Richie Hawtin to
John Peel (R.I.P.). Since then, she has released many
head-turning singles on Foundsound, Microcosm, Alphahouse,
Karloff, and Einmaleins, which were devoured by intelligent
dancefloors around the world. Miskate's career is definitely on
the rise, and we've heard reports from many reputable sources
(Plaslaiko, Movement, and Nicholas Sauser) that the new live set
will level the Bunker.

SubK is a deep electro specialist from Chicago, charged by the
more abstractly robotic sounds of electro, techno, Italo, and all
mutations in between. Instead of restricting herself to one
genre, location, or period in musical history, SubK extracts from
the dark, deep and mechanical side of many, creating hybrid
techno-electro mixes that tell stories of machines doing rain
dances and making out in corners infused with blinking neon
lights.

Jeff Samuel first caught our attention when he appeared at
Magda's Gel and Weave party at Openair in 2002, and then again
with an amazing set at the Mutek picnic in 2004. This guy was
pretty far ahead of the curve, playing jacked up weirdo minimal
techno long before it really caught on. He's released over 20
singles in the past 7 years, on labels like Dan Bell's 7th City,
Karloff, Spectral, Pokerflat, Morris/Audio, Tektite, Frankie, and
many more. He has a long-standing relationship with Triple R's
Trapez label that has resulted in eight 12"s. He has been remixed
by Akufen and Ricardo Villalobos, and gets his tracks charted by
practically every big DJ in the techno world (Hawtin, Bug, Wink,
Tejada, Mayer, and Vath, just to name a few). Tonight is his
debut performance at the Bunker.
http://www.jeffsamuel.com/
Robb first started DJing in the early '80s spinning rap,
electro,
new wave and the first stages of house music. He got involved in
the new york club scene in the late '80s, first as a club kid and
promoter then eventually as a DJ. Bouncing back and forth between
the new jersey rave scene and nyc club scene, Mr. Robb has spun
at hundreds of parties and graced the decks at notable clubs such
as the Building, Tunnel, Limelite, the Bank, Sound Factory,
Downtime, Canal Room and Shelter. Mr. Robb also worked for and
eventually ran the former U.S. hub of world wide dance music
distributor InterGroove, leading to a chance meeting and eventual
partnership with NYC DJ, Mike Bryant. The two would move on to
form the Rhythmic label group and distro, the home of
internationally respected labels Berretta Grey, Parotic Music,
Thema, Intrinsic Design, Infrastructure, Synewave, Soleil, Casa
Del Puente, Robbaudio and many more. Known for his versatility,
Mr. Robb has spun everything from deep house to hard techno
across the continent and parts abroad always proving to be a
master craftsman and getting the job done. We've known and
respected Robb for a very long time and it's about time he got
back behind the decks at the Bunker.
