Friday, October 21st at 8pm in Anderson Theatre, Hartwick College, Oneonta,
NY, the Swedish group Väsen will appear in concert. "The Vikings are
invading...but this time brandishing not battle axes, but an eccentric array
of acoustic instruments, burning down the global village with their
sonically devastating blend of ancient sounds, timeless tunes, and modern
sensibilities" - Acoustic Guitar
What is Väsen? On paper, it's three very talented Swedish musicians: Mikael
Marin on Viola, Roger Tallroth on 12-string guitar, and Olov Johansson on
nyckelharpa, the keyed fiddle that gives Väsen its signature sound. But
experience the band live, and you discover how the parts come together to
create music that defies description. It's sublime, dark, ecstatic, lush -
usually all at the same time. You may fall in love with this music. "The
sound may be traditional, but the attitude is completely modern, mixing up
the ideas of folk, the virtuosity of prog, and the humor of the insane
asylum into a cuisinart of acoustic bliss. Visual whirled music" (Wired).
