New music for the fiddle lover
http://www.cdroots.com/new.shtml
Dram (Ask-Upmark and Rynefors) - Dråm
Musicians Erik Ask-Upmark and Anna Rynefors are both riksspelmän and
combine ancient instruments to create new sounds with their
combination of nyckelharpa, Celtic harp with Swedish and medieval
bagpipes providing the endless dråm (drone) that gives them their name.
Svanevit - Gryning
Swedish folk music with a distinctive 'ancient' feel to it, performed
by a quartet on vocals, mandola, mandolin, fiddle, flute, nyckelharpa
(keyed fiddle), drums, harp, Swedish bagpipes and Medieval bagpipes.
Per Sundin - Kontrabasharpa 1914
Historic recordings of kontrabasharpa (a nyckelharpa) by Per Sundin
(1858-1928).This CD is collected from ancient recordings, so there is
a low quality of sound (by modern standards) and a lot of audio
'artifacts.' This is for the serious collector, scholar or player who
wants to know the history, not for casual listening. Notes are in Swedish.
Moldestad, Mjolsnes, Hogemo - Gamaltnymalt
Three outstanding fiddlers. Sigrid Moldestad, Einar Mjølsnes and Håkon
Høgemo are essential performers of the Norwegian fiddle tradition, and
here they present their music on the 5-string hardingfele (hardangar
fiddle), creating a potent and formidable sound. This recording was
awarded the Norwegian 'Spellmannprisen' in 2005.
Karl Seglem - Femstein
Available again! Norwegian experimental folk, with Karl Seglem, tenor
saxophone, goat horns; Håkon Høgemo, hardanger fiddle; Gjermund
Silset, bass; Helge A. Norbakken, drums, percussion
Skogumsbrorne - Slattespel fra Gudbrandsdalen
Norwegian ensemble Skogumsbrørne revives the music of some classic
regional fiddle styles by the brothers Skogum
Lennart Gybrant and Anders Norudde - Böndernas underverk
The record label says: Lennart Gybrant, passer on of tradition, and
his well-known musical companion Anders Norudde present music from
Visnum in the borderlands between Värmland and Västergötland. These
are tunes that were fashionable up until the beginning of the 20th
century, music with a special air to it and a feeling which from time
to time approaches blues. There's no limit to the different
combinations of instruments these two spelmän use. The foundation is
two fiddles, but how about slide guitar and Moraharpa, or mouthorgan
and fiddle? All performed with tongue in cheek!
More recent titles include:
Ola Backstrom - Boggdansen
Anders Svensson - Bara for ros skull (Just for fun)
Kalle Almlof and Jonny Soling - Öst och väst (East and West)
