hello..... this is my first message via my yahoo "of these reminders"
group. if there's anything buggy, please get in touch so I can try to
resolve the problem...

currently, i'm writing and recording material for the new black tape
for a blue girl cd. i'd guess that i wrote about 45 minutes worth of
sketches prior to march. then i canned all of that and started again
using my new computer-based recording system (ah, the days of open
reel 8-track are finally over!). right now, i have another 30 minutes
worth of rejected material on the hard drive (in various forms of
completion) and 37 minutes worth of strong songs, which most likely
will make it to the new cd. i'm hoping to have it mixed by november -
for release sometime in early 2002 - which means i've gotta get
writing! i'm going into the studio in a few hours...

one of the completed songs is "Bastille day, 1961" which i wrote for
elysabeth to sing. it will close the album; a real emotional one
there! i don't have a name for the album or a cover image yet....
it's still all jumbled together in my head; i've had a lot of
different ideas - since "Aflame" - about the concept for the
material. i've been asked in interviews how i will "make it better
than the last album?" and my answer is that i don't try to make it
better, i just try to make it what i want to hear. each one is
different because of where i'm at and who i bring into the band.... i
think that trying to top yourself is a disaster waiting to happen.
it's better to just go forward and see what evolves....

elysabeth is flying to nyc in the middle of september to start
recording vocals and viola. lisa is rehearsing a couple of flute
parts as well... people emailed asking about the band line-up for the
cd.... currently lisa, elysabeth & i are the core and there will be a
number of guest musicians adding their own touches. vicki has had
muscle problems in her hand which might preclude her involvement on
this release, which is really unfortunate -- but she says that her
condition is improving. i have some material we recorded in 1999
which I need to sort through to see what might be right for this
release. julianna and oscar are no longer involved with black tape
for a blue girl. julianna and i mutually (?) decided to stop working
together after we toured for "aflame" in 1998 (which is when
elysabeth was invited into the band), while oscar felt it was time to
move on. he and i are still in touch and everything is fine,
there...... i could dish blacktape dirt on other band members... but
i guess you'll have to wait for the tell-all book!

let's see, what else? ummm.... lisa and i are happily married and
spending too many hours a week working at projekt. that's the main
thing that keeps me from my art, which is an on-going thorn in my
side! i plan to keep pushing myself into the studio to work on music,
so that it won't be another three years between albums. i owe it to
me and i owe it to you...
