Hi all,
I joined this list yesterday.
Besides a general interest in fiddling & old-time music, I joined in hope of
meeting a fiddler (or other multi-instrument string-band players) living
nearby...for recording, performing & general screechy fun :)
I live in Lambertville NJ, about 30 miles north of Philadelphia....please
e-mail if anyone here lives nearby and would like to make some noise.
i've been playing for 40 years....the primary instruments i'm using right
now are:
--000 & 0-size acoustic guitars
--5-string and tenor banjos (the tenor is tuned a-e-a-e)
--fiddle
--mandola
--tenor guitar
--kalamazoo lap steel
--harmonicas/melodica
--autoharp
--various hand percussion
--and i sing
I play/enjoy a variety of music...i sometimes help-out in an original rock
band led a gal who writes great songs...but my own musical tastes are mainly
old-time, 'folk,' country-blues, old-school country....i.e. stuff with
roots....besides playing traditional material i write songs.
But probably my all-time fave musical activity is accompanying good
fiddlers...primarily old-time/appalachian but I like celtic, cajun &
canadian also (bluegrass less-so and swing not much at all)
Some fave fiddlers: JP Fraley....Liz Carroll...Arthur Smith...Melvin
Wine...Kevin Burke....Carl Baron...Davey Swarbrick....Dirk Powell...Mike
Seeger...many more.
thanks,
jane
