Hi Sam and co
Aaghhh! back to work today, so just remembered to
write to say superb gig on Sunday night before I
forget.
Had a great day, visiting the beach, the Bankes Arms
at Studley (near Swanage, it has a clifftop garden -
you should check it out if you play around those parts
again :) ), Lulworth Cove, and got a little sunburnt
in the process! (You rightly chided Mark over getting
sunburnt, he was worse than me).
The gig brought on a little of my claustrophobia -
either stand close like we did (and get pushed as
people go past to the toilets) or stand back and get
head in the way...very hot too, I had to rub ice cubes
on my forehead!
Anyway, from this close proximity great to see you've
got that Debbie look to a T. Also you've converted me
to 'Nothing Is Real But The Girl' from your
performance the other night - it has a little of that
doomed/anthemic feel of Susie and Jeffrey or even
Union City Blue; that probably sounds totally wrong,
but no matter the song's growing on me after not
liking it much before - can't get it out of my head
now.
Our hippy mate was going to come along, but cancelled
at the last moment; probably a good thing, as the two
girls playing about at the bar would have sent him
wild! Most other people I know are either not Blondie
fans or not interested for whatever reason, but I hope
to drag my cousin by going to Birmingham to see him at
the same time as one of your gigs sometime.
I note you are playing Hounslow and Witney (the latter
was brilliant last time :) ) later in the year, on
your gig list. I also noticed you are playing the
Portsmouth Cherbourg ferry; I'm using that soon for a
short break - would have liked to have been on the one
your playing! Must try not to see all the gigs I can
you play though, could get too much of a good thing.
I'll probably stop calling out for the covers Blondie
did, like Heroes and Get It On - can't expect you to
ape their every move! Besides you have your 'own'
covers to throw in which is fair enough, and they
certainly go down a storm. However don't suppose
you've ever thrown in Satisfaction? - been listening
to the group Television (less 'pop' but Blondie
contempories in the CBGB days) and they did a good
live version of that; as far as I know Blondie never
covered it, apart from throwing in the riff in their
60's medley (oh dear really sounding a geek with all
this detail, hopefully a helpful one though...)
One more thing, done a little more name-dropping of
your band here and there. On the Bowie Wonderworld
website, in the Kirsty MacColl newsgroup after someone
mentioned seeing Debbie at G-A-Y, and I think I
managed to throw in a reference on a Talking Heads
website too.
Anyway enough of my wittering....
Enjoy the summer now it might finally arrive :)
Regards
Jeremy Neal
