I had a long talk with Ron Levitt recently about Roundhouse's upcoming Christmas
show in Stayton on the 19th of December.. I told him that many people as well as
those on this list, wanted to help him... We wanted to do a fundraiser for him
knowing that his illness and medical bills have taken their toll. Sure he has
some insurance, but it doesn't compensate you for being out of work and it
doesn't pay for all the medical bills. Ron has been very quiet about this, but
after my last conversation with him, he understands that the need for those of
us who love him, are to help in some way and don't want to be closed out of that
process. I explained that he and Kim have been there for all of us and any cause
that came down the pike, and it was now his turn... He finally agreed that he
would us all us to do a fundraiser as a part of that show because he does not
want to disappoint his fans and friends..
Here is what we are planning. The admission to the Roundhouse Christmas show is
$12 per person. I will take no cut for hosting and producing the show. I have a
bunch of tools, cd's, record albums and things that I would like to put up for
sale at the show including a newer retro 3 speed bicycle 24" man's... and other
stuff that has been donated for this event... That means that some of you will
buy or bid on these items and all the proceeds go to Ron, not the band.. If you
have items to donate that you are comfortable having sold or bid on with no
reserves, please bring the items. If you would rather just make a cash donation
at the door, that would be great...
I know this has been a very difficult year for many of us, both financially and
medically, but here's a guy who has always been the first person to stand up and
say, how can I help? Now it's our turn to help him.. Will you be a part of the
help? Will you at least come to the show, pay your admission and support the
music? If there are other ideas that you have, please email me at
mandomedic@... .. There are 30 more tickets available for the show, then it
will be sold out.. Please come... Thanks, Ken Cartwright
With that said, the Roundhouse show on the 19th of December. Doors open at 6:30,
show-time is 7:00 PM.. Donation suggested at the door is $12 with some of that
going to the band and the rest to Ron.. If you can't afford more than the $12
but you can bake or make something to auction please bring it.. For more
information please call me at 503-769-2778.. I'm almost finished building a
cedar and walnut dulcimer that will go up for auction... What a great Christmas
gift all this of this will make for Ron... Thanks... Kenc

I'd love to see an up-the-neck version of "Whiskey" in D, un-capo'd or Bluegrass Stomp.

Because of a conversation during a jam this last summer, I had decided to
write a banjo tab for the "Theory of Bluegrass" column in an upcoming issue
of the OBA's Bluegrass Express. I'm going to use some tune in the key of D,
but can't decide which one to use! I've already tabbed "Farewell Blues" in
D, and I had thought about a standard fiddle tune like Whiskey Before
Breakfast or Arkansas Traveler; but now I'm wondering if I should publish a
banjo version of the Chris Thile tune "Hop The Fence" (assuming I can get
permission from the publishers) which recently came up at a Eugene bluegrass
jam and caused Chuck Holloway to lose his innocence.
Anybody interested voice your opinion. One of these tunes? Something else
in D? (Those of you who can pick these tunes without a tab to prime the
pump - great! Never mind this post, you can go practice. :)

It was a great show and a packed one! We owe Whiskey Puppy and the Sawtooth Mountain Boys a great debt of gratitude both for the great music and the influx of funds we reaped from those that came to see some bluegrass and support the OBA! Thanks for comin' out!!
Thanks to all involved...The bands most especially, Mississippi Pizza for hostin', Rachel for organizing, Chip for sound and on and on...
Cheers,
Colby

For those of us who had to be in other places, does anybody have a report from the OBA fundraiser Saturday night? Pretty good attendance? Most members are right there in Portland, so...?
