Travels
Dr Carol Williams has just returned from concerts in Europe. Firstly, at the
ancient town of Killaloe in Ireland. Killaloe used to be once the capital of
Ireland -- it nestles on the river on the east coast of Ireland and makes a
favorite holiday destination. Dr. Williams performed at St. Flannan's
Cathesdral to celebrate the renovation of the organ. The Cathedral was built
about 1200 by Donal Mor O' Brien -- a direct descendant of St. Flannan and
the great Brian Boru. The Cathedral is a glorious example of Romanesque and
Gothic architecture. The first date of an organ in the Cathedral was in
1782. The present organ was built by Nicholson and has recently been
up-dated by Stephen Adams.
Then, on to Luxembourg to perform at St. Martin's Church in Dudelange. This
was to launch the CD "Carol Williams Plays" which was recorded on the
instrument. A representative from the US Embasey attended the launch
concert.
Then to the north of England for the Lancaster Organ Festival. The festival
was held at the elegant Victorian Ashton Hall which is part of Lancaster
Town Hall. The hall houses a fine Norman & Beard organ which is undergoing
restoration. Almost 100 years old, the organ is a true British gem with
superb acoustics.
