Dear Friends,

** First, a recital announcement: tomorrow, 2/22 there will be a
Handel Birthday Concert at First Presbyterian Church, NYC. Dr. William
F. Entriken, my teacher, will perform on the organ together with Ellen
Goff Entriken, soprano, and Sebastian M. Gluck of Gluck Orgelbau on
the baroque recorder. It is going to be a treat: see you there!

** Resurgence of Interest in Organs at Local Churches

In recent years, contemporary guitar-driven music has been a popular
feature at churches. But now, congregations across the country,
including Louisville, are refocusing on traditional instruments --
specifically, the organ.

I hope those in the wintry climates stay warm...and how about music
instruments made of ice?

** Beaver Creek's wizard of ice

"After years of making ice sculptures in Beaver Creek, it was
curiosity and a friendship with a guitar maker that led him to explore
the possibility making a musical instrument mostly out of ice. "

And finally...a "guy in the newspaper business" went to the symphony
to hear Saint Saens' Organ Symphony, and while he enjoyed it, he
didn't get enough sound. Which got him thinking on the larger issue of
volume at classical recitals..

** BSO and Saint Saens: A Good Combo
"...why can't classical music fans expect the same pleasing
thing--eardrum-piercing volume--that fans of pop music get at
concerts?"
