Greetings!
** Member News:
On April 24, Jared Lamenzo performed "The Music of the Invisible", an
organ performance and video installation featuring the 1868 Erben
Organ at St. Patrick's Old Cathedral. The program included Passacaglia
and Fugue by J.S. Bach, Sonata VI by Mendelssohn, Communion by
Guilmant and Variations on the theme "Old Folks at Home" by Dudley
Buck. I was the registrant for the event. The video installation was
quite a sight: in a completely dark cathedral, historic images and
live video feeds from inside the organ, showing the moving trackers
and pipes, were projected right onto the walls. Aside from one
instance of a cypher caused by cris-crossed trackers in the pedal,
which was promptly fixed, the performance went smoothly and was met
enthusiastically by the crowd. The 140-year-old instrument is in dire
need of funds for preservation, and Jared is doing his part to get the
instrument noticed.

Last week I got some very satisfying practice time on the Erben. Even
in its present condition the organ is really a gem that tells you how
it wants to be played. The much larger electropneumatic organ I take
lessons on seems so impersonal in comparison. I look forward to
getting to know it better.
