** It's A Celebration! **

It's been just about six months since I got tired of the press releases and
puff pieces, and decided to create a web page dedicated to the *full and
complete* history of Dallas' country music sweethearts, the Dixie Chicks.
What started out as a page of basic information has blossomed into a
definitive 'net resource for information about the group's past, with an
eye toward their bright future.


** Take a survey, win a prize! **

To celebrate the site's half-birthday, I'm having a party where a lucky
member of the update list gets the present! Up for grabs is the Dixie
Chicks first release, "Thank Heavens For Dale Evans," on cassette, courtesy
of CDnow and the All-Inclusive Dixie Chicks Page. It's an all-acoustic
tour de force, featuring Emily and Martie's amazing strings front and
center, complimenting Robin and Laura on lead.

To win, you'll have to answer a question you probably answered once
already: When did you first hear the Dixie Chicks? I've established a
special freevote.com voting booth for list members only, and I'll report
the results in a future message. About a quarter of visitors to
dixiechicks.com knew the Chicks before they hit big, but the rest are new
fans. What about y'all?

** Old Chicks on 'Net Radio **

One of my goals has been to give people a chance to hear the Dixie Chicks
acoustic legacy for themselves. Dozens of the Chicks' new fans have
snapped up the few remaining copies of the pre-Sony releases. But now,
everyone can hear the "Old Chicks" sound thanks to Mike Hays, a Country
Music DJ who got fed up with the restrictions of commercial broadcasting
and created TwangCast.com, an online 24/7 live broadcast dedicated to music
with "Twang and Quality." Here's how he sums it up:

"If it's good and it is rooted in tradition, it deserves to be heard and
TWANGCAST aims to be the place for that to happen."

The Dixie Chicks sounds, both new and old, fit this definition perfectly,
and Mike Hays has just added eight cuts from the Dixie Chicks indie
releases to the TwangCast playlist! This is the fulfillment of a dream
I've had since I took my tape of "Little Ol' Cowgirl" to the radio station
in Pawhuska, Oklahoma... get the Chicks on the air. Mike Hays has done it,
and you won't want to miss the rest of his playlist, either -- it includes
a track or two from "Wide Open Spaces" that would otherwise never see
daylight.
