** Four months worth of new stories -- 37 in all! **

Yep, I finally got a chance to copy, format, and post all those great
stories of the Dixie Chicks before -- and after -- they hit the big time.
The Stories section more than doubled, so rather than keep them all on one
130k page, I've broken them into four sections. I've also added links from
the Timeline page that will take you directly to the stories for the year
you're browsing.

Here are some highlights:

"Way back in 1985 and 1986, I had Robin Macy as my 6th grade math teacher
at St Mark's School of Texas..."
http://dixiechicks.mixedsignal.net/stories.html

"I have an autographed picture of me playing with them [in 1991] and Robin
signed it saying something like 'One man band... a Dixie Rooster with the
Dixie
Chicks.' ..."
http://dixiechicks.mixedsignal.net/stories91.html

"It must have been been the summer of 1995 that my wife and I saw the
Chicks at a club in Bryan, Texas. Being from Texas we had heard of them,
but we were blown away..."
http://dixiechicks.mixedsignal.net/stories95.html

"Are you still trying to keep track of Robin Macy? Last night, I saw her
sing and play as part of a five piece band Blue Plate Special at the Eat
Your Vegetables Cafe in Newton, Kansas..."
http://dixiechicks.mixedsignal.net/stories98.html

And there's even a section of stories about the current Dixie Rooster,
Tommy Nash!

** The Chicks' First Tour of Europe **

The new-look Dixie Chicks recently played to sold-out houses in London and
Dublin -- and this time, we're not talking London, KY and Dublin, TX! But
their current short trip isn't the first time Europeans have been treated
to the beautiful sounds of the Dixie Chicks.

The first time was in March, 1994, shortly after the release of "Shouldn't
A Told You That", and they tell the story in the Spring 1994 edition of the
Chick Chat newsletter. I lost my copy long ago, but long-time Chicks fan
Patrick Flannery came through with his copy! I hope you enjoy reading it
as much as I enjoyed transcribing it:

** Danger in the Air Liner Notes **

While reformatting the Stories pages, I came across my copy of the liner
notes to the two Danger in the Air releases. They were Robin Lynn Macy's
band before she joined up with the Dixie Chicks full time -- in fact, the
Dixie Chicks are included in the "thank yous" of the group's last release,
"Airtight".

But that's not the biggest surprise. The liner notes for the 1998
self-titled release mention that it was produced by Larry Seyer. Seyer,
whose Larry Seyer Productions in Austin has worked with innumerable Texas
bands, also worked with the Dixie Chicks on the 1991 Christmas single. The
next year, he introduced Lloyd Maines to the group, and Maines contributed
his steel guitar expertise to "Little Ol' Cowgirl". And in 1995, he
contributed his daughter -- Natalie Maines -- to the group. The rest is
history, and it all began with an Austin record producer in 1988:

** Coloring Book update **

I am very happy to report that the artist responsible for the Dixie Chicks'
cowgirl-themed artwork from 1992 through 1997, George Toomer, has given me
his permission to include the Dixie Chicks Coloring Book pages on the site!
No more worrying about "Cease And Desist" letters... at least on this
page. :)

George Toomer's artwork and varied interests are great stories in
themselves. I'm looking forward to including a lot more information about
the man who brought Country & Western music to Dallas' most popular Italian
restaurant.

** Radio Notes **

I'll be keeping y'all posted on the latest happenings with the online and
broadcast stations that play the great music from the Dixie Chicks'
independent releases.

* TwangCast.com *

Mike Hays, the creative force behind TwangCast (and a country DJ in
Virginia as well!), has recently added "She'll Find Better Things To Do" to
his playlist, which already included several "Old Chicks" tracks. He
informs me that he'll be having a cool giveaway running on the TwangCast
site through July; the prize is an autographed guitar from Austin's own
Monte Warden! Keep an eye (and an ear) on TwangCast for more details.

* KHYI 95.3, Dallas/Ft. Worth *

The only on-the-air station known to play the *complete* Dixie Chicks
catalog is in the midst of their "20 Cities in 20 Days" tour! We're not
talking Brussels, Paris, and Zurich, though... more like Gainesville,
Frisco, and Denison. The station's Sales Manager was kind enough to fax me
the schedule, so if you're in the area, stop by and sign up for a great fly
fishing trip to Colorado, courtesy of Frontier Airlines!

Here are the cities (all in Texas, of course); just send me a note for more
details.

This week, 6/21 through 6/25:
Allen, Garland, Gainesville, Richardson (Thu and Fri)

Next week, 6/28 through 7/2:
Frisco, Addison, Rockwall, Plano, McKinney

7/5 through 7/9:
Pilot Point, The Colony, Whitesboro, Denton, Denison

Don't forget to call in those Dixie Chicks requests!
