** It's been a year! **

On August 19, 1998, it was the last straw. I had almost gotten used to the
annoyance of reading articles and interviews that implied that the current
Dixie Chicks lineup were all on that street corner in Dallas' West End
entertainment district in 1989. I figured I could appreciate articles that
at least mentioned that there were other lead singers at some point in the
group's past. But the last straw was the article that added three current
Chicks plus two past Chicks and printed that the group was originally
composed of five members!

I threw together a little page with the briefest of outlines and personal
remembrances of the Dixie Chicks -- how they started with Robin Lynn Macy,
Laura Lynch, and Emily and Martie Erwin. That they released two CDs with
this lineup, and one more after Robin left in 1992. That they were playing
high school cafeterias and honky tonks even after Natalie Maines replaced
Laura as the lead singer in 1995. That the group's old sound was an
integral part of what made their new sound so unique.

I couldn't think of a snappy name, so I just called it "The Unofficial
All-Inclusive Dixie Chicks Page". To my delight, it attracted more
interest than I ever expected! Now, thanks to contributions by visitors
like y'all, the site has become the primary Internet source for information
about the Dixie Chicks facinating past. It's grown from a single page to
over 50 pages of text content, plus pictures and sounds! And I'm still
proud to be the only Dixie Chicks page on the 'net with its very own "Cease
And Desist" letter. ;)


** Now, let's open the presents! **

To celebrate "All-Inclusive"'s first anniversary, I am very happy to
present Track-by-Track reviews of the upcoming Dixie Chicks release, "Fly"!

You may have seen (however briefly) the "Promo" copy of "Fly" on eBay. I
was sure wishing I could get my hands on one of those, because I was dying
to find out how the new CD stacks up -- not just against "Wide Open
Spaces", but against the full Dixie Chicks discography.

What I got was even better... not the silkscreened almost-final "Promo",
but an early, early "Demo" copy! This early summer demo CD would likely
have been created for internal use only within the Chicks organization.
Perhaps it was sent up to someone at the label, or maybe the Chicks just
listened to it on the bus to get a feel for the flow of the disc. I
haven't a clue where it's from, but it somehow ended up... in my CD player!

It's 14 tracks of facinating music, total length 54:03, with one song not
included on the "Promo" disc's listing. In fact, the track order is
somewhat different as well. They're in the same order as on Tisha's lyrics
page (http://www.geocities.com/Nashville/Stage/2700/), so it seems likely
that whatever chain of events led to me also led over to her. Gotta love
the Internet!

"Old Chicks" Sound, "New Chicks" Style, and the song's Radio Chances. If
