** "Fly" radio preview special tonight **

Just a quick reminder of some "New Chicks" news... tonight, over 100 radio
stations across the country will be presenting a 90-minute special
dedicated to the Dixie Chicks' upcoming release, "Fly". Originally titled
"Sin Wagon", the new disc has been described by the Chicks as focusing more
on Martie and Emily's great instrumental sound. If my bootleg demo is any
indication, they're right! It has more "Old Chicks" sound than anything
since... well, since the "Old Chicks" releases.

Here's how Houston-based Intermallamerica.com describes the special in
their press release:

"Intermallamerica.com will have five 30-second commercials promoting the
popular online mall during the show. Intermallamerica.com will also host a
temporary site featuring the Dixie Chicks' 90-minute listener program. The
show will include listener call-ins, exclusive CD cuts and interviews."

Marketing hype aside (they *hope* to be a "popular online mall", but had
*you* ever heard of them?), the show should be great. It will be broadcast
live, nationwide, starting at 10pm Central time, and you can request a list
of participating stations by contributing valuable demographic info to
Intermallamerica.com at this URL:

When the announcement first came out, that URL listed the stations. Now
they want your email address, city, and state, and if you don't uncheck the
box, you'll receive "information on other Special Mall promotions and
events." Great... more spam. So I took the plunge myself, and I've posted
my own copy of the station line-up. Note that the list is accurate as of
the time it was requested, and stations could be added or dropped without
notice:

But it doesn't really matter where you are, because you can pick up the
Dixie Chicks' hometown station over the 'net. If you've got RealAudio, you
can listen to the concert on KSCS 96.3, the top-rated station in all of Texas:

No promises, though -- the station could be required to black-out their
'net signal during the show.


** Chatroom commentary **

I'll be listening on KSCS via old-fashioned radio waves, but I'm planning
to be in Nici's Dixie Chicks Chatroom during and after the show. I don't
know if I'll be doing a play-by-play, but I'll certainly be happy to answer
any questions about the Chicks' history, or about the songs they play from
the CD. I'll be listed as "robertbrooksdallas".

I'll be particularly interested to find out why "Wherever You Are", the
duet with Natalie and Deryl Dodd, wasn't included on the final release.
Will it be on a future Deryl Dodd CD? (I'd say probably) Will they
address the situation with "Goodbye Earl" and the Sons of the Desert? (Not
likely.) Will they get the CD count right? (That's a tossup!)
