** Review of last night's Blue Plate Special gig **
A Walnut Valley Festival mailing list member sent me this review of the
9/30/99 Blue Plate Special appearance at Wichita State University, and has
given me his gracious permission to send it on to y'all. I think this info
may be of interest to the "Old Chicks" fans who subscribe to my update
list, and your feedback is much appreciated!

Subject: Re: Blue Plate Special
This being the first time I had seen the group, I can't comment very much
on how this particular performance compared to their others (WVFest for
instance). However they do have a nice group and Robin Macy Bennett seems
to "drive" it. Her husband (Mark Bennett) plays a 4 string bass (acoustic)
guitar and has a nice singing voice. The grandpa of the group is one of
the pioneer bluegrassers (banjo) Mike Theobald and his daughter (?) on
mando. The actual "star" of the group, in my estimation, is Ken White, a
fine guitar (he was playing a Mossman, last night) picker and good singer.
You asked whether there was any reference to Robin's previous gig... No, I
get the impression she doesn't particularly care to tie herself to "the
Chicks". She did mention her stint in the DFW area working for a public
radio station there, and also her career as a geometry teacher. As you
may/not know, she and Mark live in the small town of Belle Plaine, KS, and
do a little farming.
Regards, Gary

** Site Update: exciting news coming soon! **
There are some wonderful changes coming soon to the All-Inclusive Dixie
Chicks Page! I'll be announcing them within the next couple of weeks.
But you can get a sneak preview of a great new section I'm adding:
Suzanne's Scrapbook, a huge collection of photos and story vignettes from
1992 through 1997. Suzanne started following the Chicks when guitarist
Matthew Benjamin joined the group after Robin Lynn Macy left, and she's got
the best collection of "Old Chicks" pictures I've found yet -- possibly the
most complete collection outside of Laura Lynch Tull's attic!
But it's just a sneak preview, so far... the pictures themselves aren't
there yet. But the stories are worth reading even without the pictures...
and don't miss the link to a missing post-Natalie issue of the Chick Chat
that Suzanne found!
