** All-Inclusive moves to dixie-chicks.com **

Many of the members of this mailing list found the site when it was at
dixiechicks.com for two great months in early 1999. Well, I'll never get
that domain back again, but I've now got the next best thing:
dixie-chicks.com! And this time, I've got it for good.

Thanks to the kindness of Dallas afternoon disc jockey Katie Pruett, I am
the actual owner of the dixie-chicks.com domain. This means that nobody
can suddenly yank it out from under me without my advance knowledge, as
happened with dixiechicks.com. I'm looking forward to a long and happy run
at the second-best domain name on the 'net, "dixie dash chicks dot com."

But the new domain isn't all that's happening on the All-Inclusive Dixie
Chicks Page. In celebration, I've added tons of new info to the site!

** Suzanne's Dixie Chicks Scrapbook **

As promised in an earlier note to this list, I've added Suzanne Lamb's
wonderful collection of photos of the Dixie Chicks. She started following
the group at about the time I did -- late 1992, just after Robin Lynn Macy
left. Suzanne had been following guitarist Matthew Benjamin, who came in
to fill the gap left by Robin's departure. At my first Chicks concert,
Laura Lynch introduced Matthew to the crowd, saying "we put an ad in the
paper asking for a guitar player with long blonde hair, and he got the job!".

The pictures are all loaded, and they are just great! 63 in all, spanning
late 1992 through the album release party at Cowboy's Red River in 1998.
As we approach Halloween, don't miss the pictures of the Chicks dressed
as... Chicks!

** Found: Two new issues of the Chick Chat **

Suzanne's scrapbook of Dixie Chicks items also included two more gems --
the missing 1996 and 1997 editions of the Chick Chat newsletter!

The Spring 1996 edition was the one I thought I remembered, but couldn't
find... the one that announced Laura Lynch's departure and welcomed Natalie
Maines to the group. At the time, the change was noted with derision, and
local critics had a hard time taking the all-blonde band seriously. But in
this edition, the Chicks announce their record deal and their plans to
enter the studio... in August 1996, a date that would slip to 1997.

June 1 through June 17, 1997, to be exact, according to a Postcard sent to
Chick Chat subscribers in Summer 1997. We fans didn't realize that the
postcard's new style marked the end of an era -- Spring 1996 would be the
last issue with the "Cowgirl Band" style of Dallas artist George Toomer.
I've included scans of the front and back of the postcard, which includes
the band's tour schedule from June through September. Highlights include
the Watermelon Roundup in Plains, Texas, an appearance in Amarillo with The
Groobees (whose "Wide Open Spaces" would be the title track of the Chicks'
next release), and a couple of appearances with Pat Green, whose band
featured Natalie's new husband Micheal Tarabay.

Coming soon, another contribution from Suzanne... yet another missing Chick
Chat from the early '90s. Stay tuned!

** New pictures of Robin Macy Bennett **

As announced to members of this mailing list, founding Dixie Chicks lead
singer and guitarist Robin Lynn Macy, now Robin Macy Bennett, is part of a
bluegrass band called "Blue Plate Special" that's touring the coffee shop
circuit in southern Kansas. A bluegrass fan in the area, Gary F. Presson,
was kind enough to let me use some of the pictures he took during a
September 1999 concert at Wichita State University. Robin looks completely
at home on stage, part of a group of musicians doing what they love, with
no pressure to do more than just play what they want. It's a snapshot of
the Chicks in 1990, except with more guys!

** New Compliations added to the Discography **

The Dixie Chicks may not be on tour, but they're not just sitting around
the tour bus. They've contributed writing and background instrumentation
to several artists' discs, with more collaborations rumored to be coming
soon. Some of these proposed releases turned out to be just that --
rumors, spread by the Chicks themselves! But it's the honest truth that
Sony chose the Dixie Chicks to represent Country Music in the '90s in their
encyclopedic "Soundtrack for a Century" project. Get all the details in
the Complete Discography, now with improved navigation:

** The History of the Site **

Finally, in response to numerous requests like "why did you do it" and
"what happened to dixiechicks.com", I've put together the History of the
All-Inclusive Dixie Chicks Page. But it's not just a history of my little
site... the story really starts with the Dixie Chicks' first web page,
hosted on an Austin startup company's server in 1996. See that first
venture onto the 'net, and find out what *really* happened to dixiechicks.com!
