** An "Old Chicks" News Update from The All-Inclusive Dixie Chicks Page **

** Dave Peters, mandolin player, dead in Houston **

According to posters on the Walnut Valley Festival list (Winfield-L), Dave
Peters, who contributed to all three independent Dixie Chicks releases,
died in Houston on Monday, December 13, 1999. He is survived by a brother,
a sister, parents, and thousands of bluegrass and folk fans across the
country and around the world.

Dave Peters played mandolin on "Thank Heavens For Dale Evans" and "Little
Ol' Cowgirl", and co-wrote the peppy track "The Thrill Is In The Chase" on
"Shouldn't A Told You That" with Laura Lynch. With such involvement, he
was certainly one of the important players who helped nurture the Dixie
Chicks from a handful of street corner players into today's multi-million
sellers.

But Peters' impact was also felt outside Dallas. Contributors to the
Winfield list are mourning his passing this week. Leo Eilts, a contributor
to the Stories section of the "All-Inclusive" site, eulogized him on the list:

"Dave placed in the Mandolin Contest a total of five times and won three
times. He was a Stage Six alumni, and was always an integral part of our
jams. Anybody who ever heard him play will understand how much we're going
to miss him."

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, December 18, in Louisville,
Kentucky. He left behind many friends in Houston, and a memorial service
is being planned there for sometime after the first of the year.
Condolences should be sent to his sister, at michelehowe@...

"We are a small community. We have lost our resident Gypsy. This is a
very sad time." -- Leo Eilts

** Site References to Dave Peters **

I will be compiling a memorial page for Dave Peters in the near future, to
include a discography, pictures, and remembrances from friends and family.
Meanwhile, these pages on my site describe (in small part) Peters'
contributions to the Dixie Chicks' history.

On the Chicks' original (1997) web page, they noted Dave's contribution to
"Dale Evans".

Also, you can view a picture of Dave Peters at the 1998 Winfield festival
