** An "Old Chicks" News Update from The All-Inclusive Dixie Chicks Page **
** Katie Pruett leaving Young Country after 8 years on the air **
In 1997 and 1998, the Dixie Chicks spent countless hours visiting radio
stations across the country. They've always known how instrumental the
country DJ's can be to a group's success... even though you have to be on
the charts to get airplay these days, it's the individual DJ (and the
station's Program Director) who decides how to present the new music.
As far as I know, the first major-market commercial country station to play
the Dixie Chicks was KYNG, Dallas' Young Country 105.3FM. This was back in
1992 or 1993, the song was "She'll Find Better Things To Do" (off of
"Little Ol' Cowgirl"), and one of the DJs involved was Katie Pruett.
You've heard her name often on this list... she wrote a great bio of the
Chicks for the Young Country site, and often includes notes about the group
in her daily-or-so Gossip section.
Today, though, the gossip is about Katie, herself:

>After eight years at Young Country, I am moving on to work for my
>father as a financial planner. I've passed the exams and am ready to
>start this new phase of my life, which I feel is a calling from God.
>Thanks to everybody who has been so supportive and wonderful in every

I've had the opportunity to meet Katie, and in fact, my site would not be
possible in its current form without her help (see my History page). She's
a sweet and honest person, and while I can't imagine radio in Dallas Fort
Worth without her, I'm sure she will be happy in her new career.
God bless you, Katie, and good luck!
