** Time Flies... **

... even when you're not having fun at all. The nature of my job makes
updates during the US tax season difficult to impossible, but I'm finally
finding time to save my site from stagnation. I've made some updates to my
Beta site that you may want to check out -- and if you find any problems,
please let me know.

By the way, the Beta site is where I make changes that may not be "ready
for prime time". When I'm happy with the changes, I move them from the
Beta site (hosted by Tripod) to the main site at dixie-chicks.com.

** Time to "Fly" **

I hadn't updated my pages on the Dixie Chicks' already-multi-platinum fifth
release, "Fly", since shortly after it was released. In fact, I still had
two out-of-date pages: one with first-hand information about an early
summer 1999 demo of the album, and one with guesses about the content based
on a track list. I've combined these into a single page, which includes
all the information from both. You'll find quick notes about most tracks,
plus a detailed analysis of each track that rates it by "Old Chicks" sound,
"New Chicks" attitude, and Radio Chances. Also of interest will be the
sidebar with the story of the showdown over the Chicks' latest chart
single, "Goodbye Earl".

** Time to look back **

I've also updated the Complete Discography with updated information on
"Fly", the Sony "Soundtrack for a Century" series, and the release of the
Sheryl Crow "Live From Central Park" release that features the Chicks'
first live recording. Check it out to find out an "Old Chicks" reference
that Sony put in their "Soundtrack" series without even knowing it! You'll
also be able to check out my thoughts on how Sony turned "Earl" from a flop
into a hit by going over the heads of the Program Directors -- and selling
directly to the fans.

** Time for some self-congratulations **

The song goes, "Gonna see my smiling face on the cover of the Rolling
Stone..." Well, I didn't get on the cover... but "All-Inclusive" got a
writeup in the current (3/30/2000) edition of Rolling Stone Magazine! So
what that it's just one long sentence, one column inch, in the magazine's
new NetBook section. They're still in the process of adding "NetBook" as a
feature accessible from the web site, so it's a little tough to get to...
in fact, when I finally got there, the Country section was still a blank
page. Look for it on the site's left-hand navigation bar soon.

This was good enough to add to the front page, and I've made this change to
the "live" site as well as to the Beta site. Look on the left side for the
only place on my site where you'll see a picture of N'Sync -- on the Cover
of the Rolling Stone.

** Time to plan ahead **

There have been so many Dixie Chicks notes that I haven't had time to
digest! Founding Chick Robin Lynn Macy has founded a new bluegrass group
called Big Twang, with an album due this summer. There are two new entries
in the CDnow Dixie Chicks discography, plus a Karaoke disc, that I need a
lot more info on.

One especially exciting development that happened while I was incommunicado
is the release of the first Dixie Chicks tribute CD! "Pickin' On The Dixie
Chicks", part of CMH Records' "Pickin' On" series, includes nine tracks
from the two Sony albums *plus* one track from each of the Chicks' indie
albums! I'll post much more information as soon as I have time...
meanwhile, you can visit CMH Records' web site for more information or to
buy this bluegrass instrumental tribute.
