Welcome to the Update Announcement List for the All-Inclusive Dixie Chicks
Page! You're receiving this message because you requested to be notified
of additions to the site and other news about the history of the Dixie
Chicks. Subscribe/unsubscribe instructions are included at the end of this
message.

In this issue: Hatchling on the horizon, the site's new look nears
completion, and an advance review of the new Dixie Chicks book.

** It's not just a rumor this time! **

Last year, Natalie and the Chicks pulled a little joke. They spread a
rumor that Natalie was pregnant, and that the dad was none other than
Dallas' hunky hometown boy Deryl Dodd. Natalie later admitted to Jay Leno
that they did it to see how fast the rumor would spread... thanks to the
Internet and lists like Nici's dixiechicks@egroups.com, it spread like
wildfire.

This time, it's not a rumor! Here's the announcement from
MusicCountry.com, a sponsor of the Fly tour:

>Natalie faces next challenge: motherhood
>
>Firmly in the middle of her multi-platinum selling group's first headline
>tour, Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines has another situation
>occupying her thoughts: she's having a baby.
>
>Maines and husband Adrian Pasdar announced Monday that Maines is pregnant
>with the couple's first child. The ecstatic father-to-be got a little
>ahead of himself, saying "This is merely the first of ten children."
>Maines and Pasdar were married June 24 in Las Vegas.

A hot topic on Nici's list -- once the news was confirmed -- was the
timing. According to a Sony Nashville press release, the baby is due in
April 2001 -- which puts the conception date *after* Natalie's Las Vegas
wedding. Hopefully this fact will not be lost on the Dixie Chicks' huge
cadre of teenage fans... first, you get married, *then* you have
babies. "Wild Child" Natalie Maines as a role model? Believe it.

** The latest look: Denim **

I'd like to welcome my site's second anniversary with a redesign. Check
out the latest attempt at a unique look at the Beta Site, hosted on Tripod:

The All-Inclusive Dixie Chicks Page (Beta)
http://rbrooks.tripod.com/index.html#top

I've added a new feature that I hope will be a hit: an "Indie Dixie Chicks
eBay Report". I hope to update the box weekly with the latest prices on
rare pre-Sony Dixie Chicks recordings, since eBay and other auctions are
the only place these rare gems can now be found. Prices seem to have gone
down from their high in mid-July -- I can't find a closed auction with a
winning bid for "Thank Heavens For Dale Evans" higher than $123.00. It had
been trading in the over-$200 range.

Some of y'all have commented on the ugly Tripod banner ad at the top of
each page. That WILL NOT APPEAR on the "Live" site. If I do run banner
ads some day, I'll integrate them into the site much more
seamlessly. Meanwhile, when navigating the Beta site, just scroll down
until the banner ad is off the screen -- that's what the final result will
look like.

The title banner needs some work, too, but I think I'm stuck with it for a
while. If anyone would like to put together something a bit prettier,
please be my guest! I'll make sure to credit you on the site and in this
newsletter.

** Preview of "Down Home and Backstage" **

The title of James Dickerson's new book, "Dixie Chicks - Down Home and
Backstage", may make it sound like just another quickie bio, destined for
the bargain bin. Don't be fooled. It's been in the works for well over a
year, and Dickerson's research into the Chicks' rich history pays
off. This is the definitive history of the Chicks' rise, fall, and
explosion onto the mainstream Country scene. I'll post a more detailed
review on the site in the future... meanwhile, I highly recommend this book
for its dead-on chronicling of the period from the late '80s through Laura
Lynch's 1995 departure from the band.

You can purchase the book from your favorite book seller. I'm still
looking for an online bookstore to link to -- linking to Amazon is not an
option, because I don't want to steal CD sales from my CDnow links. Any
suggestions would again be welcome.
