You may have received a message recently from eGroups about the "merger" of
eGroups with Yahoo!'s "clubs" feature. Please be assured that I am
watching the situation closely.
I selected eGroups (before the Yahoo! merger) because it did not require
list members to supply any personal information to receive messages. It
looks like -- for the moment, at least -- that "Yahoo! Groups" will
continue that policy. Here's what they say in a recent message to some
eGroups members:
>The best part -- you won't have to do anything to convert your group.
>This will happen automatically. All you have to do to access the
>wide array of web functionality is merge your current eGroups
>account with a Yahoo! ID when the new service launches. You don't
>need to do anything now and there will be a very easy-to-use wizard
>to help you do this when the time comes. NOTE: email-only users will
>not need a Yahoo ID.
Your privacy is very important to me: both the KHYI-fans@egroups.com list
and the originalchicks@egroups.com mailing list have private member lists
that are accessible only to me. If anything in the Yahoo! conversion
compromises this confidentiality, I will move the mailing list to some
other service.
There is a large community of list owners who are very passionate about
privacy issues. I believe this community -- and the negative publicity the
could generate if Yahoo! missteps -- will keep eGroups from compromising
your security. But if you notice any problems, please let me know and I'll
look for a solution -- even if that means looking for a new list server.
Thank you for your suport, and God bless!
