** The Chicks' fellow Texas musicians come together for a good cause **
I just got this note from Tom Geddie, executive director of A.R.T.S. for
People. A.R.T.S. (which stands for Artistic, Recreational, Therapeutic
Services), is a charitable organization here in Dallas that puts musicians
and music therapists, movement therapists, visual artists, and storytellers
in a hundred Dallas-Fort Worth area healthcare facilities and other
community agencies including schools and shelters every month..
It's not directly Dixie Chicks-related, but the project does include many
of the artists who carry on the sound (and grueling touring schedule) of
the Chicks' pre-fame days. Notable in the lineup is Sara Hickman, who
along with founding Dixie Chick guitarist and lead singer Robin Lynn Macy
(and Patty Lege) formed the group Domestic Science Club after Macy left the
Chicks.
If you're interested in the Chicks' Texas Music legacy, check out this CD
-- and help support a worthy cause in the process!

>Many music fans dream of producing a real, studio-quality album or
>programming a radio show. Few get to do it, but I just did. What
>songs/musicians would your own ideal CD include?
> Factoring in the legal requirements of getting permission from the
>copyright holders and picking songs that work together (rather than a
>random collection of favorites), my folk-based CD, "Moments of Grace,"
>ranges to the edge of country, rock, pop, gospel, and blues.
> Sara Hickman, Chris Davies, Rick Yost, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Lisa
>Markley, Jay Johnson, Tina Marzola, Terri Hendrix, Kevin Deal, Jeanie
>Perkins, The Ackermans, Annie Benjamin, and Billy Joe Shaver each
>contributed a song from one of their CDs. The songs speak to the human
>condition: yearning, dreams, confusion, self-examination, journeys, hope,
>love, and the moments that define us.
> SALES PITCH: "Moments of Grace" is available as a fundraiser for
>A.R.T.S. for People, a nonprofit that puts musicians and music therapists,
>dance/movement therapists, visual artists, and storytellers into 100
>Dallas-area healthcare facilities and other agencies every month. To buy
>one, send $15 to A.R.T.S. for People, 11300 N. Central, Suite 316, Dallas,
>TX 75243. (David Byboth and Lois Brown paid the expenses on behalf of Texas
>Nights House Concerts North, so all proceeds go directly to our
>programming.)
> PLEASE PASS THIS ALONG TO OTHER FOLKS WHO MIGHT BE INTERESTED. THIS
>CD MAKES A GREAT GIFT.
